Boy, I think I'm done for a few weeks. I was coming around a turn going into my last mile, and I felt a sharp stabbing pain in my lower right leg. I was able to hobble home, but it's excruciating now. Did some strectching and put a little ice on it, and I could barely stand up after sitting for awhile. I'm guessing I have a partial tear in either the Achilles or posterior tib, though I'm not 100% which at the moment. I'm guessing the tib, given the pain is medial of the Achilles rather than centered right on it.
Appointment scheduled with an ortho for Tuesday night.

I had my follow-up yesterday following the MRI. Everything is intact. There's absolutely no damage or inflammation in the posterior tibial tendon. There is a bit of inflammation in 2 different tendons in my foot where they cross and connect to the bone. Can't remember their names. But no pain in the foot, so probably not the issue. Doc says there's no medical reason for me not to train.
I'll follow up with the PT and see if we can figure out a way to solve the recurring pain. It's already calmed down again, and I'm able to run without pain. It's baffling.

I had my first appointment with the PT. I'm visiting the running clinic with the U of U. Bottom line is in light of the clear MRI and the intermittent nature of my pain, there's a good chance this is a nerve issue. The doc says I need a couple tweaks to my form. I overstride a bit (cadence was 168 at 7:30 pace) and I stick my butt out a little. So working to fix those issues.
I haven't always been the best with sticking to PT routines, but I'm all in for this. Don't want to waste the last few years of PR ability, and what I've been doing is clearly not working. Quicken the cadence, tuck in my hips, only run every other day (for now), and do the exercises. I can do that.
I tried the tweaks to my form on this run, and it didn't feel great. A quicker cadence at easy pace feels like shuffling.

A friend inspired me to do a remote TT with him on the 4th. I figured it would be an interesting test for the lower leg to see if it flared up afterwards or not. And I was curious to see if I could break 5 in my out of shape state. I have done 0 running in the last 365 days faster than easy pace.
I hopped the fence at Woods Cross HS and did 2.5 miles of warmup on the track. Switched in spikes and did some gradually increasing strides.
First lap in 73. I came through 200m in 37.high and picked it up a little for the homestretch. I could feel acid flooding my body already by 400m and felt the crash coming.
800m in 2:31. Slowed way down for 3:54 at 1200m. Struggled the last lap for 5:18.
73, 78, 83, 84.
Ouch.
I knew I had a low baseline fitness, but this underwhelmed my already low expectations. Still, fun experience and glad I did it. No noticeable worsening in the lower leg.

| 4 easy. I had 8 on the schedule, but my knee acted up 2 in and I limped back. Wearing the knee sleeve today. I don't think it'll be a big deal. I get this type of pain fairly frequently. It lasts awhile, but once I start wearing the knee sleeve it lets me train normally.
