It's starting to get hot here in Mesa.  I left from work for the long run home at 6pm.  After 5 miles I had to stop.  I was running slower than my usual pace, and I think that hurt me.  I fartleked the rest of the way home.

Hey! Another Mesa person--welcome! My hubby (James W) and I live here too. It is really nice if you can get out early enough in the morning. The last 2 days have been PERFECT for running.

My husband ran London's Run half this year as well. What a great race--full of heart.

Great job on losing 40 lbs. What an achievement!

I haven't ran in over a week.  Shame on me.  But I did buy a road bike Monday, and I've been riding that to and from work for 8 miles one way.  I'll have to get out and run tonight after the bike ride home.  So 5 miles on a bike Monday, 16 yesterday, and 16 today.

Good job on biking and saving on gasoline and the environment!! I've been thinking about that myself. How long does it take to get to work and is your ride level, incline, or decline?

From Burt on Sat, May 24, 2008 at 13:43:27

It's an 8-mile ride to work. Luckily it's at a 0.6% downgrade, so I can just coast in without working up a sweat. On the way home I try pushing it because then I don't care if I sweat. :)

From Fredrick Teichert on Wed, May 28, 2008 at 22:28:21

I've had a tough time getting back this spring. Mostly because of injuries. I missed last season so I'm impatient and keep doing more than I should. It's easy to remember what you used to do and want to start there, but its important to take it easy at first. If you build a good base without injury, then you can progress at an accelerated rate in a couple of weeks. Ten miles in less than 2:45 would have killed me even if my base was 30-40 miles a week! I'd like to have your pain threshold!

From MichelleL on Wed, May 28, 2008 at 22:56:11

Is this only your second run in May or is it just that you haven't blogged them all? I would say the downhill and the distance can kill you. If you are feeling gungo ho, start with getting out each day. I would say it depends on what your training has been on the last three months how quickly you can ramp up your mileage or what your current mileage should be. So fill us in a little more on your training.

From jim on Thu, May 29, 2008 at 10:27:52

You get an A for effort but you are probably right too much for just starting back. As Michelle said I think it is important to try to get out each day and do something then continue to build up your base.

Hi Michelle. Hi Jim. I'm commenting on this post because clearly I was too conceited to do so before. Actually I just referenced this in my current blog for Jan. 1, 2011. This run was 10 miles down the Hualapai Mountains. Today I ran 11 miles up them!

I love discovering fellow Arizonans on the blog!! :) Nice to meet you!

Are you training for anything specific right now?

From Burt on Thu, Jun 19, 2008 at 12:54:12

I'm not training for anything specific right now. I was going to do the Ogden marathon, but when allergy season came I got sick and wasn't able to train for a month. I decided to bow out. Now there's nothing in the near future that I plan on doing other than Man Against Horse and Dick Tomlin's 5k at the end of the year. I would like to do the Texas Ragnar Relay. In fact I had copied all of the runners from the Other Blogs tab and pasted them into EXCEL. Then I sorted the columns by state to see who lived in Texas. Then I was curious to see who's on the blog from Arizona, and that's when I discovered Lazlo "playing the field." LOL.

Congratulations on getting married soon. What races are you doing?

What legs have you run for WBR?

From Burt on Sun, Jun 22, 2008 at 21:00:22

I ran leg 11 last year. I didn't go this year.

I loved leg 11. I went in wanting a leg that had a nice uphill, a nice downhill, and a flat. Legs 11 and 12 were perfect. I gave leg 12 to a more experienced runner. Leg 11 was the shortest total distance, but it was in no way the easiest. In fact, it was quite challenging. But because it was the shortest, I believe many teams put their weakest runner on that leg. I was able to "kill" quite a bit of runners which is something I didn't do at all in the Del Sol race. Part of that was that there was more people to pass, but I think it's mostly because I was running against slower people. In any case, it felt great.

What about you?

From Adam RW on Sun, Jun 22, 2008 at 21:33:01

Burt, I would say all the legs on WBR are challenging. Getting some roadkill only makes the race that much more exciting. I ran leg 9, 21, and 33. With 33 by far being the hardest ("You've got to be kidding.") For Del Sol I ran leg 7, 19, and 31. Keep up the hard work let me know if you'll be racing in UT and I'll look for you. My next "key" race will be the Deseret News 10K.

Nice ride! Your comments on Cheston's blog cracked me up today - I also post my biking miles under comments... but it would be nice if the system had a way to track them and add them up (I screwed up and changed my blog template to the expert one, and now I can't change it back!) There is a blog template for triathletes but I think it still adds up all the mileage...

Anyway, keep up the good work!

What an intense work out!  I attended spin class for the first time tonight.  In my preparation for this weekend's triathlon I was invited to come to spin class.  It wasn't at all what I expected.  I thought I was going to learn how to make the transistions from the water to the bike and then from the  bike to running.  I was told to bring my shoes, a towel, and my bike.  And if I didn't have a trainer, he would have some extras.  I soon learned that a trainer was something you hook your bike up to so you can just sit there and pedal without moving.  First we did a warm up which consisted of pedaling with just one foot.  I couldn't do that.  I'm pretty sure most people had the shoes that screw to their pedals.  Then we started the real work out.  We pedaled for 10 minutes.  At times we would stand up and pedal.  Then we would get up and run around the building for 5 minutes.  We did this 4 times.  I ran around the building 13 times, so I figure that computes to about 2.47 miles (according to GoogleEarth.)  I feel good, but it was intense.  I hope I didn't push it too hard, but I think I'm all right.  Afterwards I did get to talk the winner of last year's race, and he told me how the race works.  Now I just have to worry about swimming.

My first triathlon! It was a lot harder than I thought. First of all, I'm not a strong swimmer. At all. I estimated I could do the 400 yd swim in 9 and a half minutes. It took me 9 minutes and 9 seconds, and I almost drowned. Well, I got half way through my second lap and thought I couldn't go on. I took some time to catch my breath and I managed to finish. I estimated it would take me 48 minutes to cycle 12 miles. It took me about 44. Then I thought I could do the 5k easily enough in 26 minutes, but I was spent. It took a little over 40 minutes! I'm almost too embarrassed to post it, but I was soooo tired. And it was soooo hot. But overall it was a good experience. My wife wants me to do another one, but I think I need to practice a LOT on the swimming. I'm just glad I didn't die. Normally I don't race on Sundays, but I could've swore when I signed up that it was on Saturday. I didn't want to be out 80 bucks so I took a chance on competing without the Lord's blessing. No offense to anyone who thinks the Sabbath is on Saturday. And to those that I just offended because I mentioned God, sue me.

Awesome job on that Tri. I can only hope that my first attempt would be as good as yours. So have you picked another one to do yet?>?

From Burt on Thu, Jul 31, 2008 at 13:29:46

Thanks guys. Huans32, the reason why I picked this one is because the guy that organized this one also organizes one in my hometown of Kingman. I did the 5k in Kingman last year. Now I'm on the mailing list. I recently bought a road bike because of gas prices. Ever since then I've been thinking about doing a tri. When I got the email that they still had some available places, I decided on a whim to do it. So the next one I do will probably be the one in Kingman in November.

Alright, Burt! Way to go! Heck you've done more triathlons than me! I'm impressed! Your training has really progressed nicely. :) I have to admit it's nice to see some fellow bloggers riding a bit too :-P.

What type of bike do you have by the way, Burt? I ride a Dawes Lightning 1500.. it's actually a "Sprint Triathlon bike" I guess but it seems to suit me well, and it was the only one available online within my budget of $500 haha.

From Burt on Fri, Aug 01, 2008 at 12:21:07

I have a GT Series 3. It's nothing fancy, but I got a 20% discount, so it ended up costing me just under $700. It sure beats the bike I bought at Wal-Mart, which lasted 3 days.

I have come to the conclusion that I have a thorn in my toe.  I thought I cut my toe when I did the triathlon a few weeks ago.  I haven't been able to run on it since because it hurts so bad.  Examining it after the race, it looked like a puncture wound.  I've been waiting for it to stop hurting, but it hasn't.  There isn't any pus, which is what I would expect if there was something still in there, hence me thinking I just stepped on something.  But there has to be something in there.  I guess I'll start digging around with a needle.  If anyone wants to see a grown man cry...

Ouch, sorry about the new addition to the inside of your foot. Make sure to get whatever it is completely out though. I had something similar a week back in my hand and ended up taking a razor to cut a slice to get it out. Not that I recommend this but it worked... Good work to keep up the training on the bike while you work out the foot issue to get running again.

Yes, that's right.  I did run today.  My toe feels good.  I think my body has absorbed the splinter.  Either that or it worked its way into my circulatory system and is going to find its way to eventually pierce my heart and I'll die.

Way to look at it in a postive way! I think it's so weird that it isn't infected, but that's good, right? I'm glad you ran today... now we can "compete". (Though, according to the words of Ox, I'm a girl, so I should run less).

Way to get up and run! I can't believe that you are beating me on the mileage board. I would tell you that your going down, except I'm not planning to run too much this week. (We'll call it recovery before my *big race*).

From Burt on Tue, Sep 02, 2008 at 17:43:21

Of course I'm beating you. I'm a man, and I follow the admonition of Ox.

The correct terminology for what you are doing is tapering. You should talk to one of the experts to find out what the best way to taper is.

From Camille on Tue, Sep 02, 2008 at 18:16:11

Are you trying to hint that you are a pro. I know that this is a taper week, but didn't know if you would know the lingo. LOL. Actually, is it bad to taper two weeks in a row? I'm trying to decide if I should hold back next week prior to my race. Any thoughts?

From Burt on Tue, Sep 02, 2008 at 18:35:13

Actually, I'm no pro at all. So what I say to you is just from my personal experience. You do want to cut down on your miles a bit, but you still want to run every day up to the race except the day before and possibly two days before. If you're just training for a 5k, you probably don't need to start tapering two weeks in advance. Again, I'm no expert, and I know you're just saying you are recovering in jest, but you're still doing other things like biking, and kick boxing, so you should be fine. (In case you didn't notice, that was a run-on sentence.)

I meant to run this distance Saturday, but I was too lazy to do it in the morning and never got a chance in the evening.  I still wanted to do it because I have the Rim Country Challenge Half Marathon this Saturday (while everyone else is doing SGM.)  I need to make sure I can even run the distance.  I felt pretty good even though I was very thirsty.  I even got to the point where I talked myself into picking up any bottle of liquid laying on the side of the road for a few swigs.  The first one I saw was a beer bottle, so I passed that up.  Then I saw a jug of Arizona Green Tea, so I passed that up.  Then I saw a Coca-Cola bottle, and I passed that up.  On the WOW scale, they were getting better, but I decided to just man up and wait 'til I got home.  Now the plan is to taper down to 3 miles a day until Friday.  Then I'll run a couple of miles in Payson to try and acclimate to the higher elevation.  Then Saturday's the race.  Hopefully I just miss the first session only of General Conference.

From Camille on Mon, Sep 29, 2008 at 13:57:22

From Burt on Mon, Sep 29, 2008 at 18:40:49

For one, I probably would not have admitted it if I had partaken of any mystery juice. Actually, I saw a gatorade bottle, too, but it looked like pee. For two, I wouldn't have had those thoughts if I hadn't seen the episode of Man vs. Wild where he peed in the snake skin and drank it later. Strange things go through your head when you're putting the miles in on the open road. :P

Thanks for the well wishes on my half marathon, Melody. Sorry you had to be privy to this.

From Camille on Mon, Sep 29, 2008 at 19:09:41

This was quite the challenging course.  I started off pretty good.  I was in 30th place after the first mile.  There were rolling hills for the first four or five miles.  I thought it was fun at first.  The hills started to become a little more pronounced.  Still I felt good.  Then mile 7 came along and with it, the "hill".  I started trotting up it at a nice gait, but at about the halfway point I found that I could walk up faster than I was running.  It also helped to stretch my legs out.  But the damage had been done.  From then on, every little hill felt like a mountain.  Luckily, the last half of the race was mostly downhill.  The only thing that kept me going was seeing Camille's orange Ragnar shirt not too far behind me.  Soon my only objective became to beat Camille.  (Sad, but true.)  I think she let me win so that my coworkers wouldn't scorn me to shame.

Well, I think I'm done with half marathons for a while.  I'd like to try some 10k's and some 5k's.  My next race is a triathlon.  End of report.

Good race on a tough course. I actually like full marathons more that half's. Half's are too hard and fast. Marathon pace is a lot more doable for me- the downer of a marathon is that it takes a long time to recover.

Nice job. Why 2.94?

From Burt on Fri, Oct 17, 2008 at 12:12:19

It's just a little loop around my new neighborhood. There's another one I run from time to time that is 5.56. So most of my runs will be a combination of some sorts of those numbers.

Plus since I'm training for a 5k run as part of my upcoming triathlon, I'm concentrating on that smaller distance.

One last thing, Hot Rod was a very funny movie, but certainly was not the most awesome movie ever!

From montelepsy on Fri, Oct 17, 2008 at 13:14:19

You're right it's not, but it's a scientific fact that Kung Fu Hustle is.

From kungfublonde on Fri, Oct 17, 2008 at 13:16:41

Hot Rod gets better every time you watch it. So for us, it's REALLY good.

And kung fu hustle is the best. BEST.

Burt, when is your 5k?

From Burt on Fri, Oct 17, 2008 at 13:34:20

I like Chris Parnell's tattoo and his explanation of how it's "plausible."

I saw the previews for Kung Fu Hustle, and I don't know that I'll ever watch it. Are you sure you weren't going through a wonderful time in your life when you watched it, and now you equate that with it being the BEST?

Last year I ran a 5k back in my hometown of Kingman, AZ. This year I bought a road bike to help offset the cost of the sky rocketing gas prices. So I have decided to do the whole triathlon this year. It is November 8th. We'll see how it goes.

The picture on the left was taken in Jan. 2007.  The picture on the right was taken Mar. 2007.  I lost 42 lbs. in 8 weeks when my work did a biggest loser contest.  Naturally, I won and to the victor went the prize of $450 big ones!

I should go on another diet.  I haven't lost any since, but now that I'm exercising all the time I am maintaining the weight loss.  I've heard each pound you lose is equivalent to 5 minutes faster for a marathon.

Mike, you crack me up! :o)

Burt - you rock. Are you in the mood for a Otter Pop, because I think we should celebrate. Tell me what flavor you want and I'll stick it in my secret freezer.

Translation of Camille's comment: Burt was a big fat slob.

While I can't argue with that, I will thank you for remaining my friend. You see, Camille lost some weight around the same time, and I told her she no longer looked like a butterball. Somewhere in that statement was supposed to be a compliment, but she's never forgiven me.

From Camille on Mon, Oct 27, 2008 at 11:25:17

Heck no I haven't! Calling someone a butterball is *NOT* a compliment. Even if you are telling them that they aren't a "butterball anymore". Dude! I'm taking back my Otter Pop!

My legs didn't feel nearly as sore as they did yesterday.  I took a little longer to stretch out.  Maybe that helped.  All the sit-ups I've been doing lately have me feeling like I'm going to puke.  That gives me an idea for a scientific break-through in weight loss.  Eat as much as you want, then puke it up before it digests!  It could change the world!

Bicycle AM

Distance: 8.75 miles.  I got a flat and Mike Ambrosio picked me up.

This newspaper clipping is from 1991.  Here are the things you need to know about it:  1.  Look at my perfect running form coming across the finish line.  2.  Check out my genetically  huge calfs.  All McCumbers have them.  3.  Look at that mop on my head.  My hair was always so long in high school because I always had track or cross country practice after school and a meet on Saturday.  I wouldn't let my dad cut it because he would always buzz it.  4.  The sweet farmer tan.  No, that's not a problem with the film.  That's actually how white my legs were/are.  5.  See the mini van in the background?  I had to drive that to school every day.  I had to take all my brothers and sisters, their friends, and their friends' brothers and sisters to early morning seminary.  Thankfully my brother totalled our hideous 12 passenger van the year before.  6.  As you can see in the caption, I set the course record.  That record still stands today.  It doesn't matter that it hasn't been run since, what's important is that it still stands today!

Nice article! Very cool! the only records I set in high school were for the # of boys I kissed and the # of rules broken by any of my siblings. I hope my kids don't read your blog ;)

From montelepsy on Fri, Oct 31, 2008 at 00:32:28

Have you heard of Janda sit-ups? They will make you puke. They take out your hip flexors from doing any of the work.

You have to tense your glutes and hamstrings, which deactivate your hip flexors and all you have left to sit up are your abs.

Have someone hold on to your calves without sitting on your feet. You don't want to hook your toes on anything because you'll end up using them for leverage and using your flexors. While they're holding your calves pull against them like you're doing a leg curl and squeeze your glutes, then try for a sit up.

It took me some time to play around with it before I got it.

3-5 reps, 3-5 sets and your abs are done.

From kungfublonde on Fri, Oct 31, 2008 at 01:24:48

Kelli - I never slept in. I must've been a strange kid, because for some reason I never missed a day reading my scriptures and saying my prayers as a senior. Wierd.

Court - You'll find that I'm not the best person to practice what Sasha preaches, but I'm trying. Mostly I run on my own, but hopefully I can start running with my Ragnar team in a few weeks on Saturday mornings.

Marion - Marion, Marion, Marion. That's all I'm going to say.

Mike - I'll have to try those. There was a time when my abs were as defined as my calfs. That was 60 lbs. ago.

Rachel - You should see the picture of me jumping over the high jump bar. Someone snapped it at just the right angle.

Race: Dick Tomlin's Spirit of Triathlon (3.1 Miles) 00:28:57, Place overall: 41, Place in age division: 5
Total Distance
3.10

It was good to be back in my old stomping grounds.  I know those hills are still growing because they weren't that steep when I was in high school.  The race didn't start until 10:30, but I got there a little after 8am because I wanted to see the 5k.  I found out that they were starting the 5k and the triathlon at the same time this year.  I saw Juana Diaz who was bummed because every year she does both the 5k and the triathlon.  I also saw professional triathlete Kate Ellis.  She was nice, but I don't think she likes her celebrity status (or she's just real humble.)  I also saw my Athlinks.com buddy Kimberly Slocum.  She and Dan Springborn won the race last year, so I had my wife take my picture with them.  They said, "Don't you want a picture with this year's winner?"  I said, let me preface this with saying that this was before the race, "I'll take a picture with Kate next."  I don't think Kate finished the race, though.  I heard she crashed or something.  Not sure.  Dan won again.  And I'm not sure if Kim was the overall woman's winner.  I'll have to wait until the official results come out.

The race started at the pool right next to my old high school.  I was the 51st person to start.  They start the participants every 20 seconds.  You swim in the 35 yard long pool 3 times back and forth in a serpentine style, get out at the other side, run to the entrance point again, and swim it again.  I'm a horrible swimmer.  I never even put my head under the water.  And with all the swimmers going back and forth, the waves kept going in my mouth.  I was pretty water logged by the time I finally paddled my way through.

Then it was out of the pool and on to the bike.  Did I mention how windy Kingman is?  Well, it's pretty windy, and it was cold coming out.  But I was so pooped that I didn't notice too much.  Side story: the cutest part of the day was during the kids tri when this little two year old came out of the pool with his little life jacket on and cruised over to the bike transition area.  Back to my report:

The bike was fun even though it was extremely hard.  The first few miles I was still trying to catch my breath from the swim.  We ride three miles out and three miles back twice.  The ride out is mostly uphill, a few rolling down.  A couple of times I was riding in the lowest gear I had just to keep myself moving.  But that made coming back all the more fun.  I seriously love going that fast on my bike.  It was awesome.  The wind was blowing tears in my eyes even though I had my glasses on.  I got passed twice, but I passed about 6 or 7 people.  I don't know how some people are so fast on their bikes.  Well, my bike isn't the best, but still.  There was one hair-pin turn right before the freeway underpass where I saw a girl biff it.  I felt bad for her, but I think she was all right.  I don't think it was Kate.  One of the coolest things was having my entire family (mom, mother-in-law, brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, and my family) rooting me on.

I got off the bike, took a swig of Gatorade, and was off and running.  I should say jogging, because I didn't want to go out too fast and crash like I usually do.  The strategy paid off because I was able to finish strong.  I passed three girls right at the end.  In your faces females!

My time was about 3 minutes slower than my last tri, but I'm happy because this was a much harder course for all three parts.  Even Dan Springborn's time was 3 minutes slower than the last one.  But being that the overall winner is in my age division, it hurts my chances at medaling.  Oh well.  It's all for fun.  I think I'll do some duathlons from here on out.

From montelepsy on Sun, Nov 16, 2008 at 13:11:59

We have family that are National Park employees and they'd poke it apart with a stick and tell you all about what your dog ate in scientific terms.

On second thought, poop from a dog that has a diet of dog food would probably be pretty consistent.

I'm just scarred from the time we went on a hike with them and they stopped to dissect every turd.

From kungfublonde on Tue, Nov 18, 2008 at 11:54:43

Oh I made the list!! SCORE!!

And the family Mike is talking about is my family. He's not kidding. Not only did they poke apart every poop to tell you the diet of the pooper, we had to be quiet on the whole walk because they were bird watchers. When you meet us (and you WILL meet us because hey, we're friends!!), ask my daughters about that walk. If Mike thought he was suffering, how do you think two teenagers felt?

From Burt on Tue, Nov 18, 2008 at 12:43:22

Too funny. Do they actually think they're impressing you? You should just tell them, "You know what? You guys are totally disgusting." Then start cawing at the top of your lungs to scare all the birds away.

From kungfublonde on Tue, Nov 18, 2008 at 12:48:00

If they weren't family, I had a few things I wanted to do or say...

I understand how easy it is to geek out on a topic you're really into. They really felt thay were sharing some exciting stuff with the kids. Plus now when I get attitude from either daughter, I just say "Maybe we'll spend spring break with Papa and Ginger? They are at a new national park in Wyoming- all kinds of new animals to learn about!!" It's some pretty awesome leverage to have as a parent.

It's funny how fresh you feel and how well you can run after some rest.  I'm sure I'll be feeling it tomorrow and will not be able to run quite as fast.  I am a firm believer though that consistency is better.  If I were more consistent, my times would be better, but they wouldn't be as drastic of a drop.  Does that make sense?  In other words, if I was running every day, I might shave off a few seconds off my pace each day.  In a week I could shave off 15 seconds for example.  But if I take a week off, and I'm feeling fresh, I might shave off 10 seconds, but it seems more drastic because it happens all at once instead of 2 or 3 seconds a day.

Actually under the results of the triathlon I did, I came in fifth in my age division, but they listed me as fourth. The overall winner was in my age division and he was listed as zeroth. So I came one place away from medaling. (...and 17:43 minutes away)

From Kelli on Wed, Nov 19, 2008 at 19:50:01

I am late---but GREAT JOB!!! That is a FAST pace, I have only ever managed to pull it off once, and that was cause i was running in the dark by myself and SCARED!

From Burt on Thu, Nov 20, 2008 at 09:43:40

What are you talking about Kelli? You ran a 7:37 pace in the Onions Day 10k.

From Kelli on Thu, Nov 20, 2008 at 09:45:44

My husband was pulling me! And, a race is different than a run! I have only ever gone below an 8 minute mile on a regular run twice!! And both times I was alone and in a hurry!!

Sorry Rocket, no PR today.  I took it nice and slow.  I got out a little earlier than I usually do and it was a little cooler and a lot darker.

17.5 miles on the bike.

Thanks for the reminder, Camille.  How could I forget?

Yeah, it feels good, but it seemed that it was cold enough to keep my muscles stiff. Or maybe they're a little sore from yesterday.

From Camille on Wed, Nov 19, 2008 at 11:50:43

Well, you did kick some serious tail yesterday!

From Lucia on Thu, Nov 20, 2008 at 10:34:26

Well done, chicken legs! You're smart - you can't get a PR if you don't run slower sometimes. Maybe next week!

I had Jeff Lecheminant drop me off at Ocotillo and Ironwood, and I ran home.  Last time I did this same run there was more traffic, which was good because the cars' headlights provided almost constant lighting for me.  Today there were less cars and more running in the dark than I would have liked.  My lower back was tight the whole time and my knees are sore.  I think I'll take it easy tomorrow.

Last time I ran in the dark, I was chicked!

From Burt on Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 09:58:10

Ouch. That's embarrasing.

From kungfublonde on Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 10:58:37

You were chicked? You have chicks out there in the dark? Was the the one that pushed you down and made you sprain your ankle?

(still wondering what you were doing out in the middle of nowhere with a chick in the dark...)

From montelepsy on Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 11:58:24

Actually, I don't know for sure if it was a man or a woman. Whatever it was passed me and I couldn't catch it. I really tried too. Teena said it was probably a chick.

From kungfublonde on Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 12:00:04

(please tell me you aren't still running in the dark)

From montelepsy on Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 12:04:43

I'm no longer running unpaved roads in the dark. That happened because I was at Kalsu for a couple days and that's pretty much a dirt farm instead of a proper base.

From kungfublonde on Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 12:07:25

ohhhh. At that time you weren't allowed to say where you were.

We hijacked Burt's blog. Hi Burt!

From montelepsy on Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 12:10:58

I'm not allowed to talk about possible movements on an unsecure line. After everything's done then it's all good. They had better food there, though. And that's no secret.

From montelepsy on Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 12:13:54

Burt,

Don't run on unpaved trails at night unless you have invulnerable ankles. Or boots. Or a head lamp. I ran with a flashlight, but I held it in my hand which went up and down while I ran and really didn't do much good.

From Burt on Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 12:22:54

Apparently I'm running in the dark with my views on gay marriage. Haha. That was a metaphor. Well, I said I was done commenting on Sasha's thread, so I'll address your comment here, Rachel. It's not what two consenting adults are doing in the bedroom because now they are coming out of the bedroom and trying to make their lifestyle socially acceptable by allowing for gay marriages. Our society's acceptance of this lecherous behavior will surely be its downfall. I know gay people and I have two of them that I consider friends. Well, one now. The one I never knew was gay. What he did was his business. He never tried to push his ideas on me, and probably because I'm ugly, he never made any passes at me. He died of AIDS. The other was a kid I'd known since first grade. I can't help but blame myself for his lifestyle choice because on the bus on the way home we would play house and we would always make him be the mom. After high school when he came out of the closet, he was a bit more promiscuous with his sexuality. He would talk about it and slap other guys' butts, and giggle. It made my stomach turn. And it was not because I was taught it was wrong. Deep down inside we all know it's wrong. They know it's wrong the first time they experiment, but they choose to believe it's okay to help them cope with it. Am I rambling yet? Anyway, I agree with you to the point that we should let them do what they want to do in the privacy of their own bedroom, but it just seems to me that it's coming out of the bedroom now.

Oh my. That was long.

From kungfublonde on Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 12:31:23

As you know, I respect your opinion on this topic Burt. I mean your facts :)

Anyone who is obnoxious with their sexuality makes me uncomfortable, gay or straight. Nice couples like me and Mike who are instead a Barry and Paul, don't bother me. I'm not going to tell you they shouldn't bother you. I'm just totally not going ot invite you to my "raging gay fiesta night" party that we have every year.

From montelepsy on Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 12:32:10

From Kelli on Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 21:28:00

I guess I need to go read Sasha's blog on this topic. WOW.

Burt, have you always had 6 kids or is this a new development? Why did I never notice this before?!? Give your wife a high five from me AND then buy her dinner, flowers, a massage, and get her a maid and a chef, oh and take her on a cruise.

From Kelli on Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 22:06:05

From Burt on Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 23:46:34

I know, it's so long. Probably longer than Walter's because everybody wrote an essay each time.

From montelepsy on Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 23:54:58

Hmmm... I usually try to avoid writing essays. In fact, that's the reason I switched majors in college :)

Just kidding I was just checking in on you guys.

I kept mine short!!

I'm so cosiderate that way :)

From montelepsy on Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 01:13:33

I switched from biology to chemistry. I'm not able to make my own bulletproof webbing like Peter Parker was with only a high school chemistry background, but I can calculate the number of molecules in a given mass of x compound. Which is so helpful.

From kungfublonde on Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 01:21:45

Aren't you super interested to know what my degree is in, Burt?

From Burt on Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 09:33:11

Funny Matt.

Mike - I should see if my boy would have an interest in chemistry since he just got suspended for bringing his own home-made stink bomb and smoke bomb to school.

Rachel - Of course I'm interested to know. I just figured you were a stay-at-home mom and there would be no reason to get an education because there was no way you could compete as a female in the job market. ;)

From kungfublonde on Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 10:40:15

Yes, which is why I changed my major from Wal Mart to communication, emphasis on inter-culteral, with a minor in psychology. Now I have a great job with decent pay and amazing benifits- I'm a housweife :) Grad school starts in January. I figure with the kitchen remodel and a husband overseas 13 months at a time, I need a MA for this job.

From kungfublonde on Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 10:47:40

From montelepsy on Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 13:45:06

From montelepsy on Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 14:26:34

You're hot, by the way!

From Kelli on Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 14:36:33

Woah, boy, who are you calling hot? Burt or your wife??

I am not going to get all serious here in any way, but I cam from a profession where you are better off being a woman---women run the joint!! So, although I see the point of some of that argument, it is not universally true.

Not touching the rest of that stuff with a 10 foot pole!! But, yes, some people did certainly write essays and a lot of them. I do not know how I missed that going on---quite serious for our goofy little running blog!

From montelepsy on Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 14:40:46

I was calling Burt hot (the proof's on the right of the screen), Rachel already know's she's hot.

What profession is that Kelli?

From Kelli on Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 14:47:05

OH----that kind of HOT. Got it!

Aren't you at least going to try to guess what my profession was??? I know you can do it.

From montelepsy on Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 14:50:53

Where you a lawyer?

From Kelli on Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 14:52:43

No, if that was it I would have gotten in on the argument going on in Sasha's Blog, but I am not eloquent enough to express my opinion. Actually, I really do not have much of one! So, no, not a lawyer.

From montelepsy on Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 14:58:31

May I have a hint?

From Kelli on Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 15:03:25

I thought I gave a hint---that the profession is almost entirely all females. Did you need another hint? It requires a 4 year degree and lots of sitting on the floor. Many people do not consider it a profession (maybe that is becasue there are so many women!!)

From montelepsy on Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 15:18:09

You were a teacher!

From Kelli on Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 15:20:50

See, I knew it was not that hard if you just thought about it for a sec. Us women ruled the place. We only had 2 male teachers, and they were wimpy! I taught in a rough area, to say the least. One time I was standing between 2 very BIG Polynesian 6th graders who were fighting. One had a desk over his head ready to throw it. I was about 6 inches shorter and 8 months pregnant, standing between them trying to talk them out of the fight. A male teacher came walking around the corner and actually turned and ran!!!

From montelepsy on Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 15:26:08

Yikes! You should be the cop in the family!

From montelepsy on Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 15:27:10

Did you major in Education?

From Kelli on Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 15:29:58

My degree is in Elementary Education, yes!

I always told my husband that his job was safer than mine becasue he got to wear a bullet proof vest and I did not! I kept picturing Columbine like incidents at my school---schools are not safe and so many kids are CRAZY!

However, I demanded a certain amount of respect and usually got it!! The chair was never thrown and the fight did not happen. I was a mean little (as opposed to the kids I taught) teacher! I taught 5 years and was pregnant 4 of them---so that brings with it certain perks, like crazy mean hormones!

From kungfublonde on Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 16:28:01

I haven't been hot for a while.

I have no idea how that blog ended up being about inferior pay for women. Weird.

Kelli, I plan to teach when my girls are older. But at the college level. I'm not as brave as you :)

From Kelli on Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 17:11:28

I am going to get a certificate to teach HS English---that is my passion. But, not until the youngest is in school for a few years.

From Burt on Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 17:29:34

I knew my blog was one comment away from getting on the hot board. That's why I didn't want to answer how old my son was. Oh well. He's 13. And he may be one of the CRAZY's Kelli was talking about. Hopefully not, but this was one of the dumber things he's done in a while. Then of course he lied to the sheriff's deputy about everything when questioned. Any advice?

From Kelli on Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 17:40:51

You don't want to be HOT??? SORRY!

Ground him, watch him like a hawk, remove all explosives from his vicinity, restrict internet access, take away anything he loves. and so on...

See, I am mean.

I am sure he is a good kid, I have heard of worse. My 15 year old failed seminary. How is that for ya? She doesn't build bombs, but she dislikes religion. Scary.

From Burt on Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 17:46:31

Ground him - check. Hawklike vigilance - check. Remove all explosives - check (I hope.) Internet access restriction - check. Take away anything he loves - PSP, skateboard, himself - 2 out of 3.

He is a good kid. But once a year he does something real stupid to get him in big trouble. This is one of the worst because it's the first time it's involved law enforcement. I just hope when it's all said and done he learns his lesson, but so far his attitude seems to be getting worse.

From Burt on Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 18:01:16

Mike - I'm a civil engineer.

From Kelli on Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 18:31:12

It really sounds like normal kid stuff---I am sure all is well. Kids test the limits and do stupid stuff, it is part of growing up, right? I am so excited for my boys to grow up (not). My daughter has been really quite a good kid, my boys scare me (like the one that just had an incident with spray paint, and he is only 10!)

From kungfublonde on Sun, Nov 23, 2008 at 00:17:54

Direct his interests into something constructive. That's all I got. Or else put on comfy jammies, watch funny movies and paint his toenails funky colors. That always helps me reconnect with my kids.

I'm calling the police next time Mike brings a stink bomb in here, too. Good idea.

From montelepsy on Sun, Nov 23, 2008 at 04:49:56

Kelli,

Pregnant for 4 years and dealing with challenging kids, no wonder you were mean.

Burt,

Ask your son for his smoke bomb recipe, apparently Rachel only annoyed with smells.

Hon,

Let's do some of that when I'm home. I'd even be down for getting my toenails did.

From Burt on Sun, Nov 23, 2008 at 15:52:45

My son's pretty creative. Unfortunately creativity and a love of explosives aren't a good mix. I'm not sure all the ingredients he put in them, but I'm sure it will come out in the bomb squad report. In the "stink bomb" he put gun powder from shotgun shells and fireworks, hair, and some stuff he found around the kitchen that he thought would stink once ignited. The smoke bomb had gun powder, red kool-aid, paper, and other stuff.

From Shanti on Mon, Nov 24, 2008 at 18:41:50

Your worst nightmare come true, I am now on your blog!!!!!!

I laughed when I read your statement:

"He would talk about it and slap other guys' butts, and giggle. It made my stomach turn."

How is it that you can possibly watch a single mainstream men's sporting event, they are slapping butt's after every play! LOL!!!!!

My heart goes out to you and your son.

From Burt on Mon, Nov 24, 2008 at 18:52:08

NNNNNOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not Shanti!!! LOL!!

I think the whole giggling thing after the butt slapping was what did it for me. I admit, I'm quite the butt slapper myself, but of course in a manly way. Then again, there was probably a lot more squeezing than slapping going on when my gay friend would do it. I wonder what he's up to now. He wanted to make it big in Hollywood as a director. I remember before I knew he was gay and I went to his house, he had all these pictures of Michael J. Fox plastered all over his wall. In my innocence I gave him the benefit of the doubt because I knew he was in the drama club and loved acting. Good times.

From kungfublonde on Mon, Nov 24, 2008 at 22:42:38

I ran into this lady this morning.  I don't think she spoke English too well.  I yelled twice, "On your left!"  So the second time right as I was trying to go around her left she stepped right in front of me.  Luckily I had time to put my arm out, brace her shoulders, and kind of guide from not moving any further in my way as I went around her on her right.  She was like, "E-soddy."  Pretty funny.

From Burt on Tue, Nov 25, 2008 at 16:01:01

BBK's Bingham Babes Running Club. THat is one fast pack of women. I have been chicked by at least one of them that I know of and they are mostly 35 to 45 in age. In the Riverton South Jordan area. They are very faithful and a few guys run with them occasionally.

From Kelli on Tue, Nov 25, 2008 at 18:28:52

Hey, can I count myself as one of them???? They are fast, and getting faster all of the time! "They" even have some people in their 50's!!! In St George, I came in 2nd (or 3rd) to last out of all of the BBK's. They are certainly very speedy, and they work VERY hard!! I aspire to be like them.

From Kell on Tue, Nov 25, 2008 at 18:30:33

Oh, and my husband, Dean, Walter (when he is well), Eric, Allen, and a few other men run quite often with the speedy women.

A family I knew in high school had a dog named Skippy. Their mom barely spoke English, and she called him e'Skippy. I asked them why they didn't name him something she could pronounce. They said she was the one who named him :)

From Lucia on Tue, Nov 25, 2008 at 23:01:06

Very funny Rachel - if she was Hispanic, she probably pronounced it "Eskeepee" :) My co-workers make fun of me cause I can't say "mint" and say "meent" instead... i don't see the difference ;)

From kungfublonde on Wed, Nov 26, 2008 at 01:41:43

You typed it out perfectly, Lucia- did you know that family? :)

It's ok, I bet you make fun of them when they try to pronounce Spanish words, too, right?

hey, Tell Burt how to say, "Look out, I'm behind you and I'm about to pass you on your left!" All I can think of is, "cuidado!!"

From Burt on Wed, Nov 26, 2008 at 12:15:59

Probably the two most grammatically correct writers of the English language on this blog are Sasha and Lucia.

From Lucia on Wed, Nov 26, 2008 at 12:31:59

"Cuidado" is good, Rachel! I would say "Permiso", which is more like "Please let me pass you".

I think the most difficult part of English once you get to a certain level is the prepositions. I still get my "on", "in" and "at"s confused... I think I already told you guys about my unintentional misunderstanding with an intern a few years ago, when I said "Come sit on my desk and I'll show you a few things" - saying "on" instead of "at", that little word, could've gotten me in a lot of trouble!

And then of course the endless slang... "I'm down with it" means the same as "I'm up for it" Whassup with that???

Once more on the rise.
Nuts to the flabby guys!
Go, you chicken fat, go away!
Go, you chicken fat, go!

Left! Left! Left! Left!
Left a good pound and a quarter.
Was it right, right that it should be left?
Yes, I left! Left! Left! Left!

I ran this race last year, but they changed the course this year.  It was raining throughout the night and very cloudy this morning.  I went to where it started last year, and nobody was there.  This is just a neighborhood 5k put on by people I go to church with.  Since I moved, I emailed my friend who did it last year to see if they were going to do it again this year.  He told me they were, but he didn't tell me the starting line had moved.  The stake president didn't want anyone to cross any roads for safety reasons.  So I figured that somebody should've been there because I got there about 6:55am.  When no one was I figured they whimped out and canceled it.  Then I tought, "Come on.  The SGM was held in way worse conditions than this."  So I drove to the park and saw them there.

The race started at 7:45am.  It was great to see my old friends (even though I only moved away 4 months ago.)  As the race started a bunch of little kids took off.  There was a 16 year old rabbit that jumped out to the lead.  After about 200 yards the littler kids tired out.  I was running behind the 16 year old about 20 feet behind him.  After a quarter of a mile I looked behind me and nobody was there.  I know that there were two guys running that were faster than me including the bishop.  Bishop MacKinlay was on my Ragnar team last year.  For whatever reason he decided to run at a 9 min. pace.  He probably ended up going even slower.  And Doug Tueller decided to run with his 8 year old son.  So I decided not to push it too hard since no one else aside from the 16 year old was pushing it.

They had a drink station set up with no one manning it at the mile marker.  The 16 year old wasn't sure if that was where we were supposed to turn around or not so he stopped.  I caught up to him and said we have to run down to Southern Ave. (another half mile.)  He took off again and I just let him go.  When he turned around I slapped him high-5.  Then I got to the halfway point and started slapping everyone high-5 as I went by them.  I knew everyone was just doing it for fun so there was no need to kill myself.  In my mind though I was going back to the post on the discussion forum about which is worse: a marathon or a 5k?  I think unanimously it was voted that a 5k is more painful.  I thought that I never push myself hard enough for it to hurt as bad as the elite runners say it does so maybe I should.  But I knew that I was in first place out of the adults and with no fear of anyone catching me.

The 16 year old (sorry, I can't remember his name) ended up finishing in 22:05.  I came in second in 24:21.  That's a little faster than my training pace.  So I'm happy with that.  I might've pushed it harder if Bishop and Doug were running harder, but it was just a feel good fun race.  Even still I got a certificate for beating the Bishop, and I got a medal for first place in my age division.  Now I'm ready to eat turkey!

Way to kick tail Burt!!! That's awesome! I'm glad you let the bunny win, that was nice of you!

From Burt on Sat, Nov 29, 2008 at 21:43:58

Thanks everyone. Camille - With about 3/4 of a mile to go the "bunny" was still in sight, and I thought, "If I start my kick now, I could probably catch him." Then I thought, "It would be a tainted victory because he stopped for about 20 seconds at the water station to let me catch up." So I decided not to kill myself. I'll go for a post high school PR at the 5k in December.

I ran the regular loop this morning.  I was up earlier than usual because I had to bring my boy to the "alternative" school.  He's not happy.  Anyway, our washing machine is on the fritz, and we can only wash real small loads, so I was down to my last pair of shorts.  (Yep, I can still wear shorts here even at 6 in the morning.)  I didn't bring my "watch" with me to time myself this morning since I planned on taking it nice and easy because it's my first run since the race.  My "watch" is and has been for a while now my cell phone.  I usually start running as soon as it changes from one minute to the next.  Then as soon as I finish I start counting seconds in my head until it changes from one minute to the next.  I figure I could be off by as much as 6 seconds or so depending on how much counting I have to do.  But on a 3 mile run that amounts to only 2 seconds per mile, and that's close enough for me.  I've seen in our internet history that my wife has been doing searches for Garmins.  So I may be getting one of those for my upcoming birthday and/or Christmas.  That'll be nice.  Back to the run:  I think I was going at a pretty good pace regardless of how easy I wanted to take it.  One thing that was slowing me down was my last pair of shorts.  There's no draw string.  So I had to worry about keeping them up all the time.  I didn't worry too much because it was dark out.  I tucked my shirt in hoping that would add a little more friction.  Then I rolled them over once.  I ended up rolling them over three times.  I should've rolled them from the get go.  No one would have seen how dorky I looked in the dark.  All in all the run felt good.  I was glad to see that I didn't put on too much weight with all the holiday feasting I've been doing lately.

BAD BURT!!! You aren't suppose to be checking out what your wife is getting you for your birthday or Christmas!!!

okay, maybe you should be asking for a smaller pair of shorts for your birthday! LOL

From Burt on Tue, Dec 02, 2008 at 10:30:26

Oh you'd like that, wouldn't you? You remember those shorts. They were the same ones I wore on my first leg of the Ragnar relay. I was having trouble with them then, too, only they had the draw string and I just didn't tie them up tight enough. Funny, they used to fit fine before I lost all that weight.

From Kelli on Tue, Dec 02, 2008 at 10:30:57

I am glad you kept your shorts on! And here is to hoping you get a garmin for Christmas! Do you have a Costco membership??? Right now you can get them online with the store coupons for 150 bucks. That is a steal. It is what i got my hubby for Christmas so i can have my garmin back!

From Camille on Tue, Dec 02, 2008 at 10:36:56

Here's an idea... running suspenders. (Just a thought!)

From kungfublonde on Tue, Dec 02, 2008 at 15:53:16

Burt, since you are into ruined surprises for birthday/Christmas gifts, I will just tell you right now that I am getting you a pair of running suspenders. So would you like rainbow, like Mork from Ork, or something more conservative? What color are your giant shorts? I don't want them to clash. (if you can roll them three times, then it is definitely time for new shorts!)

My running watch was my cell phone too. I mapped out the mile markers at home. When I passed one, I'd send myself a text. (I text fast! Man, I should start a fast texting blog...)

From Burt on Tue, Dec 02, 2008 at 16:13:56

Maybe I should choose purple or rainbow. Then I could sing, "I'm coming out..."

When I first got here, the airlines lost my luggage. The store on base didn't sell pants. One of the guys here was nice enough to give me a pair of pants. He's taller and wider. I couldn't tuck my shirts in because I had to pull the pants up to my nipples to keep them from dragging on the ground. I wish I had thought of your triple roll trick. Very resourceful. Did you learn that in Boy Scouts or by emulating 80's aerobic videos?

Well, I was hoping nobody would ask because it's kind of embarrasing. I tumbled down the last four steps of our stairwell at home right through the baby gate. Yes, I was holding the baby at the same time. So I had to turn so that the baby would fall on me. Luckily she didn't get hurt too bad. As for me, I think I bruised my lung. The pain in my chest was so bad today, I finally went to urgent care.  They took X-rays.  Everything looked good.  The doctor said worse case scenario is that I have a hairline fractured rib.  But unless they get the exact right angle, it wouldn't show up in the X-ray.  More than likely it is a strained ligament.  He gave me some pain medication and muscle relaxants.  I guess I'll bow out of my 5k Saturday.  Hopefully I'll be going again in a couple of weeks.

From Mary Ann Schauerhame on Mon, Dec 22, 2008 at 22:29:38

I'm glad you were just joking around! I just would like someone fast to train with or someone who has a passion for running so we have something exciting in common.

Burt - How is the rib feeling? Any better?

From Burt on Tue, Dec 23, 2008 at 18:27:58

Let's just say, now I know how Adam felt. God took a rib from his side and from then on, he had a constant pain in the neck.

Just kidding. It's starting to feel better. Thanks for asking.

From Camille on Tue, Dec 23, 2008 at 18:29:35

LOL... dork! I just wanted to make sure the team captain is going to be able to participate in the big event.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!

From Burt on Thu, Dec 25, 2008 at 12:26:13

Thanks, Kelli. Same to you. And thanks for getting me on the Hot Discussion board.

From Lucia on Thu, Dec 25, 2008 at 12:49:14

From Camille on Wed, Dec 31, 2008 at 10:19:23

Burt... you are on the Hot Discussions board. You totally rock!

From Lucia on Wed, Dec 31, 2008 at 10:51:56

Yeah, there are two ways to get on the hot discussions: doing really well on a race, or being injured... And there's only one way Burt can get in there, as we all know...

:)

From Camille on Wed, Dec 31, 2008 at 11:32:18

Lucia - you are awesome!

From MARION on Wed, Dec 31, 2008 at 11:50:00

Burt... YOU WON A RACE???? Rock on dude! ;)

From Burt on Wed, Dec 31, 2008 at 13:11:46

Is that so hard to believe?

From MARION on Wed, Dec 31, 2008 at 13:37:45

Not at all! You kicked the Bishops trash most recently, if I recall! ;)

Jogged it.  It was achy.  Tried to test out the Garmin, but apparently I have to let it locate the satellites first. 8:53 pace.  Time 26:08.

So Santa got you a new Garmin? Sweet!!! I hope you were achy just because you haven't ran in the past few days and not cause of your rib problem! Nice work!

From Burt on Sat, Dec 27, 2008 at 01:23:21

All of the above.

Well, according to Mr. Garmin, the loop I usually run is 2.95 miles.  It's nice to know that GoogleEarth is accurate up to the hundredth of a mile.  I have to trust that Garmin is completely and one hundred percent accurate up to twelve decimal places.  I have to.

Hey Burt, nice to see you running again!

What happens if Mr. Garmin is not 100% accurate?

From Burt on Mon, Dec 29, 2008 at 11:48:28

Don't say that Eric. Hay que tener fe.

From Lucia on Mon, Dec 29, 2008 at 13:59:45

Wow... Someone is slightly OCD here...

From Burt on Mon, Dec 29, 2008 at 14:04:13

Yeah. Probably Eric. Not me.

From Eric Day on Mon, Dec 29, 2008 at 14:05:36

yeah, probably me....blame it all on Eric...

From Burt on Mon, Dec 29, 2008 at 14:12:47

hahaha. It's not whether you win or lose, it's how you lay the blame.

44 degrees??? I did not know it got that cold in AZ! But I would trade you right now!

Oh my gosh I'm getting so fat.  Don't tell Marion.

Tonight's run was horrible.  I was pushing as hard as I could, but my pace was way off.  I think because my legs were so sore from all the biking I did yesterday.  I'm sure it also has to do with not running forever and my horrible diet.

Well at least ya pushed on through! It is HARD to run when the legs are not cooperating! Happy new year!

Thanks, April. Hope you have a happy new year, too.

From Kelli on Sat, Jan 03, 2009 at 00:24:18

I am so telling Marion.

That pace is not bad, what are you talking about???

From Burt on Sat, Jan 03, 2009 at 00:55:38

Cool Roberto. You'll find Lucia is one of the funnest people on the blog.

Kelli - it felt real slow. However, my run tonight was much better. I need to weigh myself to see if I've lost any weight now that I've been dieting for a day and a half.
