| | 29 mile bike ride. I've never ridden that far before. (Is that correct grammar?) It was fun. I went up Power past Las Sendas and around Usery Pass. That was a killer climb. I got about 3 miles from home when I blew a tire. They're both flat now. |

| | What an intense work out! I attended spin class for the first time tonight. In my preparation for this weekend's triathlon I was invited to come to spin class. It wasn't at all what I expected. I thought I was going to learn how to make the transistions from the water to the bike and then from the bike to running. I was told to bring my shoes, a towel, and my bike. And if I didn't have a trainer, he would have some extras. I soon learned that a trainer was something you hook your bike up to so you can just sit there and pedal without moving. First we did a warm up which consisted of pedaling with just one foot. I couldn't do that. I'm pretty sure most people had the shoes that screw to their pedals. Then we started the real work out. We pedaled for 10 minutes. At times we would stand up and pedal. Then we would get up and run around the building for 5 minutes. We did this 4 times. I ran around the building 13 times, so I figure that computes to about 2.47 miles (according to GoogleEarth.) I feel good, but it was intense. I hope I didn't push it too hard, but I think I'm all right. Afterwards I did get to talk the winner of last year's race, and he told me how the race works. Now I just have to worry about swimming. |

Chances for Children Triathlon (3.1 Miles) 00:40:53, Place overall: 108, Place in age division: 7 | | My first triathlon! It was a lot harder than I thought. First of all, I'm not a strong swimmer. At all. I estimated I could do the 400 yd swim in 9 and a half minutes. It took me 9 minutes and 9 seconds, and I almost drowned. Well, I got half way through my second lap and thought I couldn't go on. I took some time to catch my breath and I managed to finish. I estimated it would take me 48 minutes to cycle 12 miles. It took me about 44. Then I thought I could do the 5k easily enough in 26 minutes, but I was spent. It took a little over 40 minutes! I'm almost too embarrassed to post it, but I was soooo tired. And it was soooo hot. But overall it was a good experience. My wife wants me to do another one, but I think I need to practice a LOT on the swimming. I'm just glad I didn't die. Normally I don't race on Sundays, but I could've swore when I signed up that it was on Saturday. I didn't want to be out 80 bucks so I took a chance on competing without the Lord's blessing. No offense to anyone who thinks the Sabbath is on Saturday. And to those that I just offended because I mentioned God, sue me. |
