This was quite the challenging course.  I started off pretty good.  I was in 30th place after the first mile.  There were rolling hills for the first four or five miles.  I thought it was fun at first.  The hills started to become a little more pronounced.  Still I felt good.  Then mile 7 came along and with it, the "hill".  I started trotting up it at a nice gait, but at about the halfway point I found that I could walk up faster than I was running.  It also helped to stretch my legs out.  But the damage had been done.  From then on, every little hill felt like a mountain.  Luckily, the last half of the race was mostly downhill.  The only thing that kept me going was seeing Camille's orange Ragnar shirt not too far behind me.  Soon my only objective became to beat Camille.  (Sad, but true.)  I think she let me win so that my coworkers wouldn't scorn me to shame.

Well, I think I'm done with half marathons for a while.  I'd like to try some 10k's and some 5k's.  My next race is a triathlon.  End of report.

First I rode my bike for 15.56 miles (appr. 56 min. - 16.7 mph).  There was a very strong head wind for the first half, but some dude passed me like I was standing still.  I saw another guy riding on the opposite side of the road.  I turned around at Warner and reeled him in.  Then I jumped off and ran for 2.94 miles (appr. 24 min. and 23 sec. - 8:18min/mi).  That's actually the fastest I've run my little loop, I think.  I'll have to go back and look.  That's very encouraging for me with my upcoming triathlon.

29.4 miles on the bike.  David Bond picked me up on the way home.  I'd rather be picked up on the way to work, but I enjoyed his company.

2.94 run immediately after bike. 24 min 12 sec. (8:17 min./mi.)

I would've liked to have biked more, but we had a ward service project this morning at 8am.  That was fun.  Now off to the temple and later tonight, high priest group social.  Alaskan salmon!  Can't wait.

My shins were really tight this morning.  I tried to turn that into a positive because I haven't done any hill training, and I know there's quite a bit of hills I have to worry about in my upcoming race.  I was hoping if I push through the pain of tight shins it would simulate pushing up hill.

Inspired by Marion:

The picture on the left was taken in Jan. 2007.  The picture on the right was taken Mar. 2007.  I lost 42 lbs. in 8 weeks when my work did a biggest loser contest.  Naturally, I won and to the victor went the prize of $450 big ones!

I should go on another diet.  I haven't lost any since, but now that I'm exercising all the time I am maintaining the weight loss.  I've heard each pound you lose is equivalent to 5 minutes faster for a marathon.

My legs were really sore this morning.  I couldn't even hardly touch my toes when I stretched out beforehand.  I thought for sure I was running 9 minute miles.  I guess I was only running a little slower than I have been.  Maybe that's a good sign.  We'll see how I feel tomorrow.

Time: 23:40 (8:03 pace)  new record!!

Finish time: 6:30am

Temp: 64

Workout weight: 215

My legs didn't feel nearly as sore as they did yesterday.  I took a little longer to stretch out.  Maybe that helped.  All the sit-ups I've been doing lately have me feeling like I'm going to puke.  That gives me an idea for a scientific break-through in weight loss.  Eat as much as you want, then puke it up before it digests!  It could change the world!

Bicycle AM

Distance: 8.75 miles.  I got a flat and Mike Ambrosio picked me up.

This newspaper clipping is from 1991.  Here are the things you need to know about it:  1.  Look at my perfect running form coming across the finish line.  2.  Check out my genetically  huge calfs.  All McCumbers have them.  3.  Look at that mop on my head.  My hair was always so long in high school because I always had track or cross country practice after school and a meet on Saturday.  I wouldn't let my dad cut it because he would always buzz it.  4.  The sweet farmer tan.  No, that's not a problem with the film.  That's actually how white my legs were/are.  5.  See the mini van in the background?  I had to drive that to school every day.  I had to take all my brothers and sisters, their friends, and their friends' brothers and sisters to early morning seminary.  Thankfully my brother totalled our hideous 12 passenger van the year before.  6.  As you can see in the caption, I set the course record.  That record still stands today.  It doesn't matter that it hasn't been run since, what's important is that it still stands today!

Happy Halloween!  Below are myHollywood lookalikes. I did one for everyone at work.  I'll post Camille's later.

One of these is me on my mission.  Can you guess which one is the real me?

An uncanny resemblance.  I'm the original Napoleon Dynamite.

The Govenator's got nothing on me!
