Hiked up from Desolation Lake on unmarked trail, bushwhacked to Beartrap Fork Trail, and down 2000 feet to the car. Seeing as Fritz only gave this backpacking trip a 6 on the ultimate disaster hiking scale, I call this trip a success. Mostly because I think it will keep him from running the full Deseret News Marathon on Wednesday :) Flowers were pretty!

6 is a solid score on the hiking disaster scale. At sea level, it converts to a 2:24 marathon. So not world class, but still really good.

I love photos of tents and alpenglow. This one is my personal favorite: http://goo.gl/IjlHp

That looks like fun! 6 is nothing on the disaster scale...you two need to come on our Canyonlands stoke trip over Labor Day!

Jake - I look like such a dork in that photo, my shirt is messed up and I'm wearing mickey mouse crocs!

Ha! Good luck with that! I believe this trip met Fritz's backpacking quota for the next 5 years :)

Where is that pic? I am thinking that outfit is what makes it Jake's favorite photo.

Evolution Basin. We were 125 miles into the JMT at that point, and the Mickey Crocs were rad!

I asked Andrea what was the highest we've ever been on the hiking disaster scale. She didn't even hesitate - "TEN!" Then gave me a look like I was silly for even asking.

So pretty up there, Amiee! Any camping trip where you end up back at your car in one piece is a success, I think.

I actually only backpack once every 15 years. But maybe bushwacking more often would keep it interesting, yet itchy.

I will admit this venture lowers the odds of switching to the full. That explains the 6 on the disaster scale.

Absolutely breathtaking! Wow.
