Running Accomplishments:

2nd Year of XC (Senior Year). My best races thus far have come from Nike Regionals down in Pheonix (5K), the Dixie Invitational (800), and the Davis Invitational (1600). I took 8th place in the 1600 and 11th in the 800 at 3A State. Also at state we were in the slower heat of the Sprint Medley and ended up taking 3rd overall, that was pretty legit.

After high school and my mission I think that it would be really cool to get into the St. George Marathon. That is one thing I would like to accomplish in my lifetime. Hopefully I will be able to do multiple. In all I would just like to enjoy the time I run and have some fun experiences with it.

Today I ran 4 miles for the first time, it felt so much longer going to the turn around spot than coming back but it was good to get the mileage in. I felt pretty good most of the way, all around was a good run!

Good. I want you to convince Paul Gaona (a Freshman, little Mexican who is playing ball) to come out to XC. Just talk it up - how good the team is and how good he would be and important to our team and stuff like that. He is a stud runner and we need him to come out... but he isn't sure he wants to - so convince him!

Today was a good run, didn't have a real team practice but a lot of the team was there. I did 5 miles with a mile and a half tempo. We started at the high school and went over by the two churches in Washington Fields. The tempo was mostly uphill but it a awesome run!

Today was a good day. We did doubles.. a 7 miler with a 2 mile tempo in the morning and then we did a three miler which I had a side ache most of the time but after the work out I felt good, the runs were really good.

We went and did some hills by some I mean a lot of hills. Not to mention in Hell Hole today, it was tough but worth it till we had to come out going up that huge mountain/hill. It ended up being 6 and a half miles. It was humid but the run was good!

 I went out and did my afternoon run I did a 3 miler, I felt good. It was a little hot but I need to get used to the heat. Today has been a good day!

It was a good run out on the turtle road trail thingy, the run back seemed a lot faster. We did 5 miles there then when we got back we did striders so it totaled up to 6 miles all together. I felt pretty good.

The afternoon we went three miles and then lifted and all that good stuff. It was a little tough but it will be worth it. Good runs today!

We started out at the Little Valley Park and ran to do hills about a half a mile away, the first hill wasn't too bad but the second hill was a monster. It was good to get the hills in because it will be worth it in the end. Good run today! Little nervous but excited for this upcoming meet!

This morning we ran a 7 miler with 2 mile tempo. The run out seemed a lot longer than the run back. I felt pretty good most of the run, that monster hill killed me on the way back with the tempo but other than that it was a good run and I felt like I had a good pace!

 

This afternoon we ran the same ole 3 miler and did weights and all that good stuff. I felt really good, kind of getting used to the dry heat but it's been a good running day!

Today we ran up and did two laps around the dirt mile, I felt pretty good! Kind of kept a slower pace the first lap then tried to stick up with the pack at the end of the second one. It was a good run!

We just ran three miles down on the grass with no shoes, I felt pretty good didn't really push it till the striders afterwards and even then I wasn't going all out just because I didn't want to wear myself out before the race.

 As time got closer and closer I got even more nervous about the race. I didn't really know what to expect as far as how fast to go or how these were even set up. We got on the bus and I just tried to keep relaxed and even fell asleep for probably 5 mins till I hear "Look there is a fire"... It's great to wake up to that (; When we started doing our warm up stuff I kind of knew where I was going but I was still nervous being my first race and all. I was watching the girls thinking wow they are going fast... Do I run that fast? We got lined up right when the guy said set for the first time my heart really started pumping.... then he messed up. So the second time he said set I was for sure ready to go even though I was still unsure about how fast to go... but wait another problem with the gun. Third and finally he blew the whistle and we were off! I remember Coach Holt saying you will have plenty of time to catch up. That was my plan I would kind of lay low and see how this whole race pace works then at the end have a final little push. I was with Krenshaw for the start and I was glad that he was there to get my race pace started. I moved my way up just a little bit to Josh and kept with him for what I can remember quite awhile. Everyone on the sides of the course that was pushing us and telling us to go faster made it soo much better, it is really good to have people cheering you on and motivating us to move up spots. Anyway.. when I passed Coach Holt for the first time he told me to pass five guys and I saw Nick in the distance so I ran up counting the guys I was passing and got behind him and I was just behind him for most of the race. I was breathing hard but then again who wasn't.. It wasn't till the third lap when I thought I was slowing down.. After some of the people motivating us right before the track I started to feel it, I hit that track and I thought I was done. I could see Matt up ahead and so I ran ahead of him then I saw Wes and some Cedar kids and somehow I found a little energy and kicked it into gear and sprinted as fast as I could... I was exhausted by the end, my shirt was drenched but dang did I feel good. People told me "oh it feels so good after you just run a race".. I'm thinking pushing the pace for three miles and that feels good? It really does, I felt pretty good till that final track lap before I started pushing it again then I felt even better when finished. It was nice to have the water right there to drink, water tasted sooo good after it too! I ended up finishing 21st overall with the time of 17:29. I am so glad I joined XC it has already been a blast and there is so much more to come! Definitely some good runs today from the 3 mile grass work out to the 2 mile warm up to the race and finally to the mile cool down, just a good day!

I was pretty sore after the race yesterday but we ran down into Hell's Hole and did some hills in there. It was pretty good till we got to the 30 second ones and then I was tired. We then ran out of it and stopped to get some "Holy" water then just ran back to the school. It was tiring but nice run though.

We ran the same route as usual did some plyos and head up to The Running Center for team night and that was a lot of fun. I got some racing strategy hints for next time we race and in all it was a good day!

Today we went over to the trailhead by the Dixie Center and ran a good 3 mile run. Ran with the pack out which was a bad idea after running in that sand but in the end it was good I guess. Then the level 2 boys flipped around and I ran back with Nick keeping a nice pace, it was a good run I wasn't feeling as sore.

It was 5 miles with a long hill, I couldn't find a really long one so I found some medium sized hills along the way and ran up them. I felt pretty good, not so sore anymore from the race which is a plus! Glad I got up and ran!

Hurricane Race day! I felt super good and was glad for Matt to keep on pushing me, I got a PR with the time of 17:27. Props to Matt for out-sprinting me! Definitely felt good after the race knowing my time!

SUU race day! This race was definitely not my best. I got 18:00. First spike course and I didn't do to swell. I just felt dehydrated and pretty tight in my legs. The solution to those two things were drinking more water and stretching better after each run. Still working on them. I just look right past this race and look toward the future races! After a not-so-good race it has was a good rebuilding week!

Dixie race day! A lot is on the line, 4 guys going for the last three varsity spots. Ran three miles in the morning with the same ole arctic circle run. I was looking forward to this race after my SUU one. I started kind of slow but that's the way I like it, not one to haul out at the sound of the gun. I made my way to the rest of the guys (Colten, Braden, and Matt) We all stuck right there and kept a nice pace for the whole race. The race really didn't feel like it was that long. I come up around the last bend before the final stretch and I can hear Coach Holt yelling that there are only 3 varsity spots and that there was 4 of us. It took us all a sec to register it but we all kicked it into gear. I was leading the crew when out of nowhere Braden comes flying by on a dead sprint. I try to kick and I find some energy to push ahead of him. We took 5,6,7,8 all within 4 seconds I think. It was a great race. Props to those other three guys! I felt really good and it was a nice competition between us all. Nervous but excited for Murray! Great bounce back race from SUU.

Murray race day! Started off the day with a nice 3 miler on the same route. Went up to Sugar House park to get a good feel for the State course so that was neat. Got some lunch then headed over to where the race was. First big varsity race and I couldn't believe the people that were there. So many people, it was a super good experience though. We did our warm up and prepped ourselves for our race. I was a little nervous but I was excited. I knew that I would be pushed more with the big competition here. We started and I started a little bit faster than I have in the past but I just kept a good eye on Matt. I got up with him and we kept it going and stayed close for the whole race. Thank you Matt for pushing me and making me have a better time, and good job on your race dude. You are beast. Anyways.. as I was saying we start going down this hill and for some dumb reason I am slowing down.. Matt was a little bit behind me when all of a sudden I feel this "Whack!" right on my bum. I got going back to my speed again and went with Matt. As the race went on I could hear people yelling "One more mile" That made me kind of push it. Then we got closer and closer and people were screaming only 800 meters left. Matt and I kept it going. It seemed like we were passing people rather than being past. We came flying around that last sharp turn where we were on the final sprint. I found a kick and finished strong. Matt finished really strong too. We raced really well as a team taking 7th overall I believe. I am proud of the rest of the guys, they did so good! We are getting better and there is always room for improvement but let's keep up the good work guys! Loving XC (:

Went on my six miler. Ran the first three with my sis and then went out and finished the rest with some music. It was a good run, finally updating my blog. Guess what though, it is completely updated! Got a nice week ahead full of some good running!

Herriman Invite! It was a super hard course, the Mutha Cussa was crazy but it was so legit to finish it because of how insane it was. Slower time but a good race. Good overall day!

Snow Canyon invite! Not my best race but I gave me a reason to bounce back for Region the following week. My foot kind of hurt along with my knee but that's not all that slowed me down. Most of the pain was in my stomach, good learning experience for sure.

Region! I ran JV, it was a really good race considering how bad I did at SUU earlier this season. I ended up taking 4th overall and 3rd on the team. Got my first medal so that was sweet! My time was 17:06 I believe, it was a good day and a good race. Felt good about it all!

Nike Regionals! Race day. Looking into this race I was kind of nervous but I was feeling pretty confident and pretty well focused up. This was my first huge meet out of the state and I definitely wasn't going to let it get the best of me. It had started off a good trip when I traded a whole load of stuff for a beanie for coach.. Me and Coach really bonded I could feel the love <3 This was probably my favorite trip all year. The weather was awesome the course was fast/flat and I was ready to rock and roll. We lined up and it was different not having the whole team together. I really wanted to finish first out of the team that was in the open boys race. I raced my heart out putting up a 5:05 first mile and a 5:27 second mile putting me at a 10:32 so far. I really needed to push it out if I wanted my best time of the year. (Red had said sub 16:30 and I kind of looked at him like are you crazy.. I hadn't gotten under 17 all year for a 5K and now I was going to get under 16:30..) I wasn't going to let that thought leave my mind though. I pushed the last 1.1 mile on the and I found some leftover energy and kicked a little bit when I saw the time 16:17.. I pushed and pushed.. I wanted that sub 16:30 I crossed the line at 16:28 I felt so accomplished. I finished top on the team for that race and got my sub 16:30. It was incredible even though my legs felt like jello. I loved this race and trip. So sweet!!

Footlocker Regionals 2012! Race day. It felt super good and it was good to get all the registration out of the way early. The race day was sweet, got out of the hotel super early and off to the course to watch people go beast mode on it. I felt really good the first mile because of it being flat and really none of the hills really hurt all that bad except for the last one. The switchbacks weren't to bad at all. As I raced down the last hill I just wanted to keep passing people. I ran fast down the gauntlant and onto the track. Coming around 200 meters I was toast but wait.. Is that McPhie I see.. I get this sudden burst of energy and I dared to go and I was so glad because I beat McPhie which I really hadn't done all year. I placed 26th overall out of many other juniors and seniors. My time was 17:26. If it were only a junior race I would've placed 9th so I was very much so happy with my performance. All around an awesome trip!
