I am in Lewiston, Utah...Home of the famous 4th of July festivities. These farmers know how to party.  I ran a 10k with approxiamately 50 total runners. They had a 1 mile and 5k also which was more popular. I started out fast of course with a 5:30 mile and then slowed my pace down when I was all alone. It was an out and back whichI I like to see where I am in the race. When I got to the 3.1 mile turn around, my brother in law was there with a water station and I saw that I was all alone so I stopped and drank the water and talked to him for a bit until I could see the second place guy. I then tried to get to a 6 min. pace but was suffering from a really bad head cold.  I had to stop and do the old farmers blow to clean my nose out. lol I immediately could smell the manure from the farmers fields which I thought to myself why I did that. I got a mile in 5:50 and then a 5:48 and I think my last mile was a 5:38 but I forgot to stop my watch.  I had fun and a local farmer actually got mad at me for running in it. He said i had no business being up here. Haha I told him for that Ill plan on next year. I set their course record its only been going for 3 years. They wanted to put me on a float afterwards for their Parade but I told them to just give me a rootbeer float and id be content with that. They gave me a medal and an Alveys Chocolate bar. yummy! I guess their first year they did this, they gave the winner a side of beef! I wouldnt mind that! Im off to enjoy the rest of the 4ths celebration. God Bless America!

Great race report. I love that you were able to stop and chat and still win the race.

From Kelli on Sat, Jul 04, 2009 at 19:54:31 from 71.219.89.21

Ah, you should have gone on the float!!!

Good job Walter.

From Smooth on Sat, Jul 04, 2009 at 21:14:39 from 71.32.234.26

Walter, you crack me up! WAY TO set a new course record with stopping to chat and smell the manure! Hehehe!!! Do you by any chance know any Kings in Lewiston? Hope you had a great July 4th!

From Walter on Sat, Jul 04, 2009 at 23:31:51 from 98.202.27.142

Bec, Thanks.

Julie, I know. Its nice to have a good lead enough to take a break and hit it hard again.

I put my daughter Bailey on the float in my behalf. She had a blast!

Smooth. Yes Misty know the Kings well. We went to a horse pull and saw alot of neighbors from South Jordan up here. Mostly the Mckees who owned all the land that my house now sits on in SJ. Pretty cool to see them kick some butt in the horse pulls.

Walter James,

This could very well be the best race report I have ever read!!

What a riot!!!

Glad you had such a good time ... hope the chocolate was good.

Nice race Walter you like setting course records this year. Nice talking to you during the awards.

Smooth, so what Kings do you know from Lewiston. I married into the kings from Lewiston, that is why I was there.

Nice work Walter! Glad you were able to take it easy this weekend - a nice farmer blow and rootbeer float will clear up that head cold in no time!!

From Cody on Sun, Jul 05, 2009 at 22:31:19 from 67.161.250.22

Very nice Walter! Beware of the stink of Cache Valley! Missed you at the 15K though.

From Walter on Sun, Jul 05, 2009 at 23:30:10 from 76.27.15.208

Teena, I didnt want to be too descriptive. lol btw Misty took my chocolate.

Matt, It was good getting to know you! I think you wouldve had a great chance of grabbing the second place kid if you had a better start. You did good. Keep those miles up and youll get those PRs. Did you see the Herald Journal for today? They did a great article on Paul Peterson winning the 15k. Very cool.

From Walter on Sun, Jul 05, 2009 at 23:33:59 from 76.27.15.208

Rachel, some of the best things that come out of Lewiston is the FAT Boy Ice cream sandwich, and most of the dairy farmers milk goes to Cache Valley Cheese.

Cody, I was fine with the stuffy nose. lol I wanted to run the 15k and I was actually signed up for it, but didnt feel good enough to run it like i did last year. I would be in bad shape. lol You rocked it my friend!

From Kelli on Sun, Jul 05, 2009 at 23:46:39 from 71.219.89.21

I am offended that I am not getting a personal reply back. I am going to hold Misty's flip flops and your hat hostage until you acknowledge me.

BTW, are you running this week so I can return them?

From Walter on Sun, Jul 05, 2009 at 23:51:26 from 76.27.15.208

Kelli Dawg, I didnt forget you. I wrote a note to you but forgot to put your name at the start. Im going right now to look at what you did this weekend? Ill run this week. I have to leave earlier now that im a SLC employee. lol

Yes, nice job, Walter. I agree you definitely should have gone on the parade! You would look like quite the beauty-queen!

From jtshad on Mon, Jul 06, 2009 at 10:09:19 from 204.134.132.225

From Walter on Tue, Jul 07, 2009 at 00:07:33 from 76.27.15.208

Jon, true that! You know how much I love doing the elbow elbow wrist wrist wrist.

Shadster! Ah, I was no where near your pace! sheesh senor gonzoles. Im working for Salt Lake City Streets doing signs, lines, and meters. lol can you believe they are paying me to change batteries in meters? lol Its great to mingle with the hookers and bums all day asking if I could give them a few coins from the meters.

Lucia! Thanks for the postcard it made me freakin homesick. So I booked a cabin on the Lake up in Coeur dalene for the second week of August. I love Glacier and was reminiscing my hike up there when I saw the picture.

Just had to read your report from last year. Don't know why I missed it. It must have been overshadowed by Paul Peterson's Narnia report. I remember that one for sure.
