The weather was bitter cold this morning, so they decided to do a reverse order in the race.  They did the 3 mile run first, 11.3 bike second, 300 yard swim last. I felt good on the run and gave myself a good lead on everyone. I jumped on the bike and proceeded to do the 11.3 miles.  I was immediately passed. It was a two loop bike race and on my second loop I was passed by another 4 bikers.  I hung my bike up and ran to the pool which was inside and when I jumped in the pool it felt like a hot tub!  It was extremely difficult to swim after exerting  myself. I was passed by a couple of other guys making me finish 9th overall, and 2nd in age.  I met up with Logan and his wife was competing in it! I told him my hopes of winning it but I ended up whining more than winning!  I know I could have shaved a ton of time off if the event was reverse order.  I did this same race in logan last year with a way better time and my swim was not as good as it is now.  It was good to see Logan down there and his wife and I ended up winning a 2 lb twinlab whey protein fuel suplement. I talked to a bunch of guys down there and explained the fastrunning blog, so Ill hope to see them on it.

Nice TRI Walter. You did the best you could and that's all you can ask for. You've been training hard and that's an impressive performance. I can see how the reverse order would be difficult.

Yeah It was a son of a b. The wind was ruthless and there was about 3 miles of climb in the bike with a strong headwind and a mile of climb of runninig with a strong headwind. I gotta tell you it was fun! Im getting hooked on them. i talked to some competitors that were commenting on my run and I was bowing down to them for their awesome bike and swim, but they said that there are not alot of good runners that do these events the winning time was 56 minutes and I led the run so you can see there is some amazing talent there.

Good job today.

So are the winners of tri's usually good swimmers or good bikers, since you said there aren't many good runners?

From James on Sat, Mar 29, 2008 at 22:30:46

Good job on the tri!

From Johna on Sat, Mar 29, 2008 at 22:32:21

Congratulations on the 9th place finish. I competed today and the bike was difficult. Sounds like you nailed the run. Were you in the last heat?

From jtshad on Mon, Mar 31, 2008 at 09:02:03

Nice job on the Tri. You would have smoked it in the right order.

From Walter on Mon, Mar 31, 2008 at 11:23:22

Hey shadley! Thanks. If they would have done the race in the right order, I would have been frozen to my seat! It was soo freekin cold. Im still planning on the Vikingman so bring it on. I got a good feel for the talent that is in this event. The guys that smoked me in the run and swim were all young! There was a 6 year old out there doing it! Insane! My 6 year old daughter still has training wheels on her bike!
