Favorite Running Quotes:

1.

"Sooner or later the serious runner goes through a special, very personal experience that is unknown to most people.

Some call it euphoria. Others say it's a new kind of mystical experience that propels you into a elevated state of consciousness, a flash of joy.

A sense of floating as you run. This experience is unique to each of us, but when it happens, you break through a barrier that separates you from casual runners. Forever. And from that point on, there is no finish line. You run for your life. You begin to be addicted to what running gives you."

~Nike Poster

2.           A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

Lao-Tzu

You’ve no doubt heard this.  And you’ve probably recited it in your mind on a run or at the gym when you’re just beginning to get in shape.  You have a goal in sight and this quote brings you back to the current moment.

But the problem is that many runners forget all of the steps between the first one and the goal.  If your goal is to run under two hours for the half marathon then you need to be honest about all of the little steps to get to that goal.

…and what I’d rather see you do is to get the goal out of mind completely, but rather focus on the process, not the outcome. -Jay Johnson Process orientation, not outcome orientation.

You should have goals, but you should take it one step at a time.  And you should be honest about the fact that you don’t know how many steps it will take to get there. ~ Vernon Gambetta

3.  Human beings are made up of flesh, blood and a miracle fiber called COURAGE! ~ George Patton

4.   Find the courage to be patient.

I quickly turned my alarm off this morning with the intent of NOT getting up.  But then I laid in bed thinking that I there was no way I would be able to make up the miles later today or this week.

So I got my lazy hiney out of bed and ran outside instead of at the gym (I was running out of time since hubby had to leave for work).

It was very warm this morning - only 1 pair of tights, shirt,  and jacket (no hat or gloves).  I didn't look at my Garmin at all...just listened for the mile beeps.  I knew I was going slow, but I didn't really care.  Just wanted to take it easy after the long run on Saturday.

38:51 minutes (10:34 - I had a hard time getting going, 9:36, 9:34, 9:03).

My kids woke up at the CRACK OF DAWN so excited for Valentines Day.  They made me breakfast in bed (soggy cereal and a squished banana).  I am SO tired!  But I still have a class party, swim lessons, dance, tutor, homework, FHE (which is sugar cookies and heart attack), bath and bed.  It is a Cherry Coke day!

52:17 minutes (9:03, 9:02, 8:52, 8:35, 8:33, 8:08)

Hubby had an early morning assignment, so I slept in and ran this afternoon.  Heavenly!  The weather was so nice and warm.  I ran in tights and a short sleeve shirt...amazing!  I was planning on doing my 5 mile route, but when I got to my favorite down hill stretch, the road was closed.  They were making a HUGE trench for the canal and had a  big pipe - there was NO crossing it!

So I turned around and started to head back.  I saw another runner and flagged him down to ask if the street I was on had construction.  It didn't thankfully, so I didn't totally have to completely retrace my steps.

I was probably going a lot faster than I should have (not that it is all that fast), but some days it is awesome to open up a can of whoop A..... and let 'er rip!  It felt good to open the stride.

27:48 minutes (9:45, 9:12, 8:49)

I dropped my youngest off at preschool and ran from the preschool teacher's house.  Unfortunately, it is ALL up hill - which was ok because I wanted to take it easy and slow today.

It was a beautiful day with warmer temperatures.  I ended up over dressing and ended up running in a short sleeve shirt and tights.

So I'm really sad about the new Boston qualifying times.  A 3:35 marathon just seems super duper fast for a poke like me!

Dropped my youngest off at preschool and ran from the teachers house (I haven't been to the gym all week...I'm liking this warmer weather!).

I'm still feeling so so so slow.  I know I am building my aerobic base from scratch and it takes time! But....

34:25 minutes (AP - 8:36) (9:16, 8:48, 8:28, 7:51)  I felt good during the run, but seemed to huff and puff a lot.

I met RAD out at the JRP for my first run out there...ever!  And it was fun stuff!  I told RAD that I was oodles and oodles slower than she was and to please turn on the speed when she needed too.  But she stayed with me the whole time.  She wasn't even breathing hard!

The run felt good, but my ankle started to ache somewhere along the run.  So I stopped and stretched for a minute.  I think I am going to make it an easy week next week.

It was warm outside this morning, but there was a light sprinkle.  It didn't bother until I got in my car and started to get cold.  Brrrr......  There weren't lots of runners out this morning, but a few die-hards!

Again, the more I run, the more I realize JUST how much I don't know about running.  It was awesome to listen to RAD talk about her running history.  I've realized that running is hard on your body and it is bound to get injured sometimes.  It's just part of that amazing high we get...it has to crash sometimes.

Thanks RAD for the great morning!
