Funnest race EVER EVER EVER!!!!
After a family discussion we decided we would open up the New Year with a family run followed by ice skating and dinner. It was absolutely FANTASTIC!!!! We threw around a few different plans of action and then decided we would run our newly found race together.
The first mile was the BEST since all seven of us were running as a family. We were on the JRP and the weather cooperated beautifully. Our first mile came in at 11:50. The twins impressed us all with running the whole time! Oliver, Livvy, and Ryan had completed their fun run, and Rylee, Payton, Sophia, and I had another 2.1 to go.
As we began our 2nd mile we picked up the pace to about 10 minute miles, Sophia's comfortably tough zone. We laughed and enjoyed ourselves, but it was obvious that Rylee was itching to take off. With one mile left I told Rylee and Payton that they could run as fast as they wanted to the finish. Their faces lit up and off they went. We were at an area that looped a bit and so for a minute or so I was able to watch Rylee from the side. She looked amazing and I am sure she was running at about a 7 minute pace.
Before I knew it our run was over. I wish it would have lasted for hours more. I was in heaven. Running with my cute hubby and kids. What better way is there to start a new year?

13.1 miles - AP: 8:29
The AirNow site said that the air was "moderate" today and since it wasn't too cold I ventured outside. It felt good to be off of the treadmill and the time passed very quickly. I concentrated on running balanced and keeping good form. I switched sides of the road every two miles in hopes of giving both legs equal times on the uneven stuff. I have not had any problems since I switched back to my Adidas shoes. :)

(10 miles w/AP of 8:18, then .5 cooldown)
Ran on the TM while Sophia, Oliver, and Livvy would periodically work out on the elliptical and bike. Watched Biggest Loser. Pushed the pace during commercials, but ALWAYS kept good form (at least I think it was good form, my form is likely horrible, but I was at least thinking about it).
** Andy, Smooth, and Kathie: I KNOW I KNOW I KNOW ... I DON'T KNOW WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME!!!! I promise, my intentions were good though. AND ... THANK YOU SO SO SO MUCH for the FANTASTIC lunch date!!! We need to do that again ... promise me!!!!
Later PM:
One church basketball game.
I got a phone call at 8:19 from one of my friends in the ward. It went like this: "Teena, you need to get over here. We are going to forfeit if you don't!!" Stink!!! I learned a long time ago that the chance of injury is very high in church ball!!! Oh well ... it was good for a little more cardio and fun! :)

THE MOST FUN I HAVE
HAD ON
AN 18 MILER
EVER EVER EVER!!!!
I wish every long run could be like this! Last night I had a sore throat and a bad headache and was worried that I would have to back out of this one. I was so happy when I woke up and the sore throat was gone. Yes, the headache was still there, but it was not as intense, and only needed a nice long run with Smooth to leave entirely!!! :) :) :)
Thank you SSF for today. I had more fun than I can possibly express. LOVED every mile!!! YES --- EVERY SINGLE ONE (seriously -- how often can someone say that when talking about a long run). You are the BESTEST BESTEST BESTEST!!!!
AND ... I had two firsts today:
1. FIRST TIME EVER to run such a long run without any NSAIDS!!!!
2. FIRST TIME EVER to run over 40 miles a week without any NSAIDS!!!!

Also, I would like to give a shout out to my boy, Ry ...

Was really bummed that the air was so stinky outside and that I would have to run on the treadmill. I decided to run at the gym in hopes of making the time go by faster. Because I didn't have as much time as I would like I decided that I would push the pace a bit. My plan was to alternate between 8:34s and 8:00s. However, the gym was packed (could barely find a treadmill) and all of the runners got the juices flowin' in me. Needless to say, as I began to run I formulated a new plan. I thought, "Hey Teena, why don't you see if you can match your last year's Painter's time." Stupid idea, I know. But it became my mission. I couldn't remember my exact time but knew it was a little under 1:45, so that was the time to match or beat. I ended up having to dig deep and hit puke zone the last two miles but finished in 1:44:28!! :) I actually ran almost 1/20th of a mile too long because I was closing my eyes and counting down the end (in hopes of keeping the puke down). My counting must have been a little off!
Hope this run doesn't negatively impact my race this week. But I am very happy! :)
(Beat my last year's Painter's time by 23 seconds.)
** Notes to self: Tried the new Gu "Roctane." Not sure if it was the pace or the gel, but my stomach felt really icky after the run. Also, need to drink more since I lost three pounds during the run. Or is that what I should expect? Who knows. Drank at 4 miles, had a gu and a little drink at mile 7, more drink at 9 and 11. Seems sufficient when I write it down. Hmmm...

I am so happy about this race. Although it is not a PR for me, it is a course PR by 5 minutes, and I feel like it was the strongest that I have ever run in a half marathon. (Additionally, it is the first race in years that I haven't used any NSAIDS.)
This morning before getting ready I asked Kelli for some racing advice. She told me this: "Stop over thinking it and just run hard -- if it gets too hard just slow down until you can run hard again." Funny how the most simple advice often is the best.
One of the GREAT things about this race is that I got to run about 9 miles of it with Mark (huans32). He definitely was a great help. His words of encouragement were so appreciated and he kept me honest in my effort.
I had so much fun!!! I am LOVING spending the weekend with my SSF (Smooth), Kelli, and Emily! Also being able to have lunch with Maynard (Brad), Rhett and his beautiful wife, Doone, and many others was a huge highlight! Last night's dinner and frozen custard today with Lowell was FANTASTIC, and, of course, seeing all my FRB friends -- love it, love it, love it!!! I feel so so so lucky!!!
Okay -- off to dinner with the girls!!! YAHOO!!!! :)

18 miles - AP:8:48
I was so so so so lucky to have Kelli with me today. Without her, there would have been NO STINKIN' WAY that I could have finished 18 miles. In fact, during the run I had my fingers crossed that she would say something like, "Hey, let's just do 10 or 12 miles today." But nope -- she is far too diehard for that!!! The plan was to take it nice and easy, but sadly, it never felt easy to me, it was comfortably hard the whole 18 miles. Does that make sense?
Okay this is what I learned about Kelli on the run -- actually I already knew these things but they are now more fully tatooed in my mind:
1. Kelli truly is the HILL QUEEN. Try as I might, I just could not keep up with her on Puke Hill which we ran at our 16 mile mark. That girl runs hills like no other. Amazing!!!!
2. Kelli really really really does NOT drink ANYTHING on an 18 miler!!! WHAT IN THE WORLD???? Seriously, how is that possible??? Here I am with my four fuel bottles filled to the max, and she would not take one single sip. Physiologically -- is that possible???? I guess so ... I just don't know how!
3. Like me, when the last handful of miles shows up on a long run Kelli just wants to get them over. It was so funny! We had been chatting away the whole time until the end. Then we just wanted to be done. Our last 9 miles were much faster than our first 9 miles.
Anyway ... THANK YOU KELLI!!!! I needed you badly today. You amaze me!!!
** On a side note, it was fun to run into Mark (huans32) on the trail. :)

7 miles upright bike

Core and hip strengthening exercises at work.
*************
Other than the parking ticket I got (who knew you couldn't park w/in 5 feet of a driveway?) it has been a great day!
The day started out with a full out upright bike race with Fonz. Okay ... so I lost (even w/Fonz having already ran his stinkin' fast miles and him being at a much higher resistance than me) BUT ... I hit an upright bike PR (7 miles on random level 2) in 19:27. It must have been quite the sight as I was dripping buckets of sweat and Fonz was just jammin' out to his tunes w/out a care in the world. Oh well ... I came closer than I thought I would -- I am so going to kick his trash next time! :)
THEN ... I made it to school on time (usually I am running about 5 minutes late).
THEN ... I got my O. Chem test back (which I thought for sure I had bombed) and got an A (miracle of miracles -- thanks for the prayer, SSF).
SO ... I am very happy!!!
(Have a quiz in Anatomy tomorrow ... better hit the books.)

Okay ... this was the plan: run three 5Ks - 1 @ marathon pace, 1 @ threshold pace, and 1 @ VO2 max pace with one minute rest between each one. I am so glad this is over -- that last 5K just about did me in.
1 warmup mile
5K @ 8:00 pace
5K @ 7:30 pace
5K @ 7:04 pace
(I was reallly trying to push it to a sub 7 pace on my last 5K but absolutely could not do it. Stink! I'll blame it on Fonz since he pushed me on the bike yesterday. But truthfully, I don't know that I could have gone even 1 second faster had he not. I hit the puke feeling halfway through and had to slow down a bit before picking it up again.)

20 wonderful miles with my SSF (AP: 9:20)
Smooth and I had a GREAT run! Got started a little late so after running our first 8 miles uphill we arrived at Payton's game with only 5 minutes left! He didn't seem to mind since they were getting smoked!!! 5 minutes was the perfect amount of time to have a little drink and eat the oranges Ry brought for us. Out we went and ran 8 miles down and then 4 relatively flat miles on the parkway with a hill at mile 19.
During the second half of our run, after leaving a chaotic message for Rhett (we were wondering how his marathon went) we began to salute places that reminded us of our friends and loved ones. For example: our first salute went to Kelli as we passed a Kneaders! Then to JohnnyV as we passed a fire station. Other salutes included ones to Fonz each time we saw a church (how do you like that Fonz?), a salute to Fly when passing large amounts of rocks, to Montelepsy and Vinh when we would pass the U.S. flag, Mark O when passing 24 hour fitness, Larry when passing an A&W, Ry when passing a golf course, Lowell when we saw any flourescent colors and on and on and on (there were many more).
Lastly, I have to add just how amazing Smooth is! She truly is the most wonderful woman ever. It was funny, when we finished and were having our muscle milks at my house we were telling Ry about our salutes. I said, "Guess what we were passing when we were giving you a salute?" He said, "Ummmm ... Bikini Cuts???" (laughing, of course). Smooth looked perplexed. She had NEVER heard of the place! Like I have said many times before, she is so so so good!!! :) I just love her.
Happy Day! |

** I am doing a project for my Physics of the Human Body class at the University of Utah. I am so excited about this project but desperately need your help. All I need you to do is take 5 minutes and complete my online survey. (It might not even take that long.) I am trying to get an idea of why women in their 30s and above run and how it affects their lives. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE help me by taking the quick survey and forwarding the link to as many women that fall into this category as you know. I would be so grateful. Am so behind in school and so had to run fast so that I would have more time to study.
12 miles
(1 mile warmup, 7:30, 7:30, 7:30, 7:30, 7:30, 6:59, 6:50 ** had planned on running that mile at a 6:40 but 1/2 way into it I stinkin' quit and lowered the pace to 6:59, 2 miles cooldown. Got off the treadmill, took off my shoes, and was so mad at myself for quitting on that 7th mile that I put my shoes back on and hopped on the treadmill and ran 1 mile at 6:40 and then another cooldown mile.)
Off to study. I hate that I haven't been able to look at all my friends' blogs the last couple of days. I am drowining a bit in school and desperately need to catch up. I have a HUGE anatomy test on Thursday, then hopefully I will be able to breathe again.
Hope everyone is off to a great week!

16 miles - AP: 7:58
Okay, the plan called for 16 miles with 12 @ marathon pace. I thought I'd get the 12 done early and relax in the end. My thought was to do a semi-warmup mile at 8:34 but make up the 34 seconds sometime before hitting 12. I did that. But after finishing mile 12 I realized that though it was hard and I was tired I was still in complete control. So I figured I might as well see if I could finish the entire run at marathon pace. By the final mile I was exhausted but decided to push myself even harder to bring the pace down under 8 minute miles. Success!!!
On a side note -- 16 miles is much too far to do on the treadmill. I don't know what I was thinking. Saturday afternoon are busy at the gym so I thought that the time would fly by as I people watched. The time did NOT fly by! Oh well ... it's done.
Hope everyone is having a FANTASTIC day!

** Today's run seemed overly hard. I am very tired and am worried that I might be getting sick. I was dripping buckets of sweat, my tummy hurt a bit, and my legs felt like lead. Zero pep. More concerning is why I didn't stop and scrap the run, or at least slow down. I think it is because with only running 3.5 days a week missing one run seems catastrophic and I feel like I need to make the most of each one. I know, a little dramatic, but that is what my brain was telling me. Stupid brain.
** I need to find a way to get more sleep. I can tell that my body is hungry for it.
** I am going to drink a bunch of soda pop today. I know that it is bad for me but I need something!!! :) :) :)

18 miles: AP 8:18
It was fun to run on the Lehi JRP with so many friends: Smooth, Kelli, Maynard, Kathie, Kimmy, LuzyLew, and Davy Crocket (it was great getting to know you)! I wish I would have known that not everyone was running the same distance because I was so sad to find out the Maynard, Kathie and Kimmy had left without me really having chatted with them! STINK!!! I guess that means we all need to do another run together soon.
Anyway, thank you, SSF for setting this up. You are the GREATEST (and you bring the yummiest oranges as well). I love you!
On a side note, Rachel was able to make it and chat with us in the end. Very cool! AND ... Kelli is unbelievably DIEHARD!!! She is presently running with her hubby after running 18 miles already! Crazy girl!!! The first 10 miles of the run were hilly and if it were not for her I would have taken them so so so much easier!!! She rocks those hills!

Oops ... originally posted this on Friday!!!
24 miles total, split into two runs because of a graveside service I needed to attend.
10 miles @ 7:59 w/JohnnyV (I have to be honest here though ... my pace really should be in the 8s but I stopped for a breather before hitting a really fast last mile to bring my pace down to that. Stink!!! Why do I do that???) * Actually 8.5 miles with Johnny and 1.5 by myself.
It was AWESOME to run with Johnny again (although the horrible wind was not awesome at all). It had been a while since I have run with him and todays run reminded me why I love running with him so much. He tries to get me to use more common sense in my running -- which is what I need. Thanks Johnny!!!
later:
14 miles with Smooth and Kathie (not 100% sure on the pace, I will have to wait for Smooth to post our splits)!!! I had so so so so SO much fun!!! It was great to be with the harem. Kathie has forbade Smooth and I to reveal many of the details of today's run, but needless to say, we had a riot!!! I definitely need to run with those two more often. Wonderful miles!!! Kathie and Smooth had been running for 8 miles by the time I was able to join them, and so Kathie left when she hit a little over 17 miles (she only needed 16) and then Smooth and I were on our own for the final 5. I just have to say one thing about the remaining five miles: SMOOTH IS HARDCORE!!!! She seriously is amazing. Her final mile of her 22 miler was her fastest and came in at 7:56!!!! And she thinks she is not getting faster!!! Who is she kidding!!! I was so so so impressed.
AND ... a special shout out to my three youngest who are celebrating birthdays today and tomorrow!!!
I am the luckiest mom in the world!!! :) |

Today's goal: Figure out a way to get 8 hours of sleep before 5:30 a.m. tomorrow morning. This is going to be a toughy. Tried to decide last night what I was going to run this morning. I knew I had a race on Saturday, but also knew that we are just running the race for fun, so decided to push it. My goal for quite some time has been to run 8 miles in 1 hour on the treadmill. I decided to do it at the gym since there would be people around to push me. Found someone that looked super fast (Fonz was not there) and put myself on the treadmill in front of him knowing that he would be able to see if I slowed down. I know that sounds stupid, but it works for me. :)
1 mile warmup
8 miles in 59:59 (I had to enter puke pace the last 1.25 miles to make this happen and am still feeling a little nauseous because of it). AP: 7:30
1 mile cooldown
Anyway ... it was much harder than I thought it would be and don't know if I want to try that again for a while. Why is it so much harder to run faster when you are not in a race??
***SIDE NOTE: I think I set too lofty of a goal for Boston and need to re-evaluate. I have talked to a few people who told me to expect 10 - 15 minutes slower than my fastest SG time. Stink! What is everyone's experience with Boston? There is not much elevation loss, but it is at sea level. Hmmmm .... |

WARNING:
Way long race report! The abridged edition is this:
The race was AWESOME
PERFECT company
TONS OF FUN!!!!
First off, let me say that I have never ran a relay before and I LOVED IT!!!! I am certain what made this race so much fun was the girls (Smooth, Kathie, Kimmie, Mom of Kathie and Kimmie, and Marcie) and Andy!! I am just going to cut to the chase because midterms have begun and I am so so so so so behind!!!! OUCH!!!!
Smooth ran legs 2 and 7 and was absolutely AMAZING!!! She had 12 or 13 road kills on her first leg alone! I LOVE the time I spend with her. She is fun, laughter, dynamite and inspiration all bottled up in a little body! Thanks SSF for being my SSF!!!!
Kathie ran legs 3 and 8. WOW -- leg eight was a killer and she impressed us all. She was the greatest Team Captain with her cute binder full of directions, instructions, etc. I hope she allows me to be on her team over and over and over again! And ... who would ever believe that she is a grandma??? She looks AWESOME!!!!
Kimmie ran legs 1 and 6 and just plain cracks me up. In fact, it is impossible not to be laughing incessantly when her and Kathie are together. It is a riot!!! Then add Mom in the mix. FUN FUN FUN!!!
Marcie ran legs 4 and 9. Where to begin? 55 marathons and she looks like she is mid-30s, and yet she is 44!!!! She had the toughest leg by far and I bow to her greatness. Her asthma was acting up yet she charged up a 6 or 7% grade dirt hill (which seemed endless)!! Amazing!
As for me, I ran legs 5 and 10. Could not have worked out better since Ry came with me and our condo was literally 2 minutes away from the start of my leg. SO ... I was able to sleep in and meet everyone there. I got there early because Ry had a tee time. Worked out perfectly because I was able to see the leading runners come in to that exchange and spend a little time chatting with Andy. I was so excited to see him take off. Despite what his race report says, he looked AWESOME!!!
Leg 5 - 5.5 miles, AP somewhere between 7:19 and 7:22 (my watch is a little messed up).
** Started way too fast (first mile came in and 6:58 and I knew I would pay for that later -- STINK!!) The goal the whole time was to not get passed and pass at least one man. Ended up passing 2 women and 3 men. Could have passed another but thought I was running 6 miles, not just 5.5 and was finished before I was ready. STINK again! Oh well, that actually probably saved me by allowing me to have some reserves for my other leg. (There was one hill on this leg that was one mile long ... I kept pretending that I was Kelli in hopes of surviving. It must have worked.)
Leg 10 - 4.9 miles, AP somewhere between 7:24 and 7:27.
** Had been texting Andy (who ran my same legs) so was forewarned of the headwind. First couple miles weren't awful because it was more of a crosswind. Probably ran the steeper uphill portion a little too fast but was feeling much better than I thought I would be and was actually enjoying the run!!! Was pleasantly surprised to see the gals a couple miles into it wanting to know if I needed water. I passed on the fluids but soaked up all the cheers and encouragement. Miles 3 and 4 were tough for me. Saw Andy and Smooth with 2.2 miles to go. That helped a ton!!! But man ... seriously, seeing the finish line with that much further to go is torture! That fourth mile about did me in. I have never ran in a headwind like that while trying to run fast. BRUTAL!!!! I could taste the sand and feel its grit in my gum and it was pelting my legs. I just put my head down a bit and kept thinking about the tail wind I would get that final mile. All the girls ran in with me --- I can't describe the happiness and energy that gave me!!! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!
Anyway ... I had planned on keeping this race report short, but totally failed!!! Too many good memories!!!! :)
Race was over and we realized we had taken 6th place in the all female teams!! WOW!!!! We weren't expecting that. Cool (especially considering that the average age in our group was over 40!!!! I was the baby)!!! The girls then dropped me off at the golf course where Ry was golfing before they headed home. Ry said it would still be roughly another 30 minutes. So I ran 4 more miles (AP: 8:30).
OKAY ... I am so so so far behind (two more midterms - one on Thursday and the other on Friday and one assignment, two projects, and a quiz). STINK!!! So, I best hit the books!!
Here's to a great upcoming week everyone!!!! :)
(Btw, I wasn't very good at cutting to the chase, huh???)

** Didn't know if I would get a chance to squeeze in a long run tomorrow, so I decided to get it done this evening. Wasn't able to leave until a little after 4:00 p.m. Temps were absolutely perfect, albeit a little windy (nothing too bad).
Managed to hold marathon pace for 16 miles before self-destructing. By that time I felt done. Come mile 18 I forced myself to run some hills. Ran up Puke Hill, down Home Stretch Hill and then back up it. Hoping that hitting those hills at the end of the run will help me mentally and physically prepare for the hills in Boston. Here's to hoping! :)

Hillwork today!!! I think sleeping in yesterday helped me this morning! :)
10 miles @ 7:57 then one cooldown mile
The plan was to do one warmup mile then see how long I could hold marathon pace with 5 miles of hillwork in the middle. I knew this would be tough, but wanted to see if I had it in me. Decided I better run at the gym so that I would have an added incentive not to quit.

2.0 - 3.0 0% incline: 8:00 pace
3.0 - 3.7 3% incline: 8:00 pace

Was sad that I was not able to meet up with the flyers in Provo this morning. We have a million things going on today and I didn't feel right about leaving Ry to get them all done. Still more to do. The upside is that it encouraged me to get the run done so that I could get home to help. Felt awesome the first 15.5 miles and then had an Andy moment (saw spots and felt a little light-headed). That only lasted about 10 minutes and then things got better again. :) I definitely feel that I am running better than I ever have. (Knock on wood.)
Have a wonderful weekend everyone!!! :)

12.75 hours at the clinic -- that should count for something. It was crazy busy and I am exhausted! :)
Finally got home and the fam is at Costco. So, I am unwinding by taking it easy on the bike while blogging, listening to some slow jams and chewing Bazooka bubblegum! :)
Hope everyone is off to a great week!

22 miles - AP: 7:58
(7:49, 7:45 -- stink, I know better than starting out this fast, I will pay for it later, 7:53, 7:56, 7:56, 7:52, 8:04, 8:02, 8:12 - need to get my head back in the game, 7:59, 7:58, 7:54, 7:53, 7:56, 7:55, 7:59, 7:55, 7:57, here come the hills - 7:57, 8:37, 7:58, 8:11 - I have nothing left in the tank. Solid effort.)
Lower left leg pain. But with the taper I am sure it will be fine. I did have to stop and stretch for about 30 seconds to 1 minute about 4 times though. My pace would have likely been slower had I not had those breaks. I am certain the pain is a result of me pushing too hard this week. What was I thinking? It is so easy to push when you feel you are improving and are not in pain. It is hard to stop before you have signs of danger. A lesson I am still learning. The bright side is that I was able to still run at a solid effort.
Ran out of fluid at about mile 18. Stink.
Threw in some hills the last four miles. Home-strech Hill twice, Oreo Center Hill once, and Puke Hill once. I walked down Puke Hill because I was afraid that steep downhill would aggravate my leg even more, but was able to run up it.
Took gu every 6 to 7 miles as Smooth suggested.
Hit the wall around mile 20 and was very thankful that I had to stop for a traffic light. I am really hoping that with a proper taper and some race day adrenaline that I will be able to hold this pace for another 4.2 miles. There is no way I would have been able to do it today.
Hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend!!! :)

Funny thing: Okay ... so I have had this rash on my hurt leg. Only thing is I hurt on the lateral anterior portion of the lower portion of the lower leg, and the rash is on the medial portion of my upper lower leg (if that makes sense). Anyway, I just thought they somehow were interrelated. This morning the rash was way worse. I decided to head into the Heber InstaCare because I had shingles back in 1996 and the pain and appearance looked much too familiar. Sure enough ... shingles!!! Are you kidding me??? Sigh!! (Luckily this bout of it is not too bad.)
Good news is that today is the first day that I feel like the pain in my leg is really lessening. I think the Ionto patch and ultrasound are starting to work their magic.
I took the kids swimming this afternoon and was able to get in 100 minutes of pool running with very little pain. It was AWESOME!!! And the time flew by as I watched my trouble-makers enjoy themselves splashing around. :)

Came home from church during the third hour because my leg was swelling and hurt. I don't know what to do. We are suppose to leave for Boston on Thursday.
My concern is that even if I run the race slowly, that I will not be able to finish it. I do not want my first Boston experience to end that way. I am so conflicted.
Anyway ... just wanted to get that out there.
Thank you everyone for all of the kind words and encouragement. Everyone has been so wonderful. For whatever reason, my body just does not like to cooperate with me sometimes. It makes me feel so wimpy -- but it is what it is. I am obviously still learning what will and will not work for me.
Love you guys!

Boston:
Positives:
1. Get to run, or at least attempt to run, the historical Boston Marathon
2. Be with friends
3. A good chunck of the cost is not refundable, so just go and have fun regardless
Negatives:
1. Not be able to finish the race
2. Lose $550 of the $3000 for this trip
3. Get further behind in school
4. Worsen the anterior compartment/do more damage
Still haven't made up my mind. I keep going back and forth.

Boston Update:
I have decided to go to Boston and have the time of my life!!!! :) :) :)
This morning's PT appt:
Okay, last night I worked with another PT who said that she thought she knew of a PT that could help. The PT, who has some incredible clients (NBA players, WNBA players, Ballet West, REAL players, etc.) talked to me over the phone last night and agreed to meet me at 6:45 this morning. WOW!!! How lucky am I?
First, let me just say that every single person I see seems to have a different diagnosis for me. This morning was no different. But I am hoping and praying that this diagnosis is right. I have to study, so I will try and make this quick:
After messing around with my leg a bit he said that the calcaneus and talus were out of alignment. He said this would explain the sudden pain with no warning signs. According to him anything could have caused it, a mis-step, pivoting wrong, hitting it on something, etc. He did some mobilizations and I heard a few pop pops. Immediately I had much more flexion and extention in my foot. He told me then to hop on the treadmill and run. He warned me that there is a ton of pressure in my lower leg, likely because of my ongoing issues with compartment syndrome and the impingement caused by this misalignment. He said this pressure will make it uncomfortable to run, even painful, but he wants to see if the stabbing pains come back. I hopped on at an 8:34 pace and ran 1/2 of a mile. Lots of pressure, no stabbing pain! He said that is a good sign. He wants me to run tonight or tomorrow night for a handful of miles and see how it goes. He then wants to see me again Thursday morning at 6:45 to mobilize the joint once more. He thinks there is a decent chance that I can run this race without causing any permanant damage if I can deal with the pain. I am going to deal!!!
I am so happy!!!! :)
True, Boston is not going to be what I had initially hoped ... but it will be Boston!!! :)
Most importantly:
Thank you everyone for all of your encouragement, love, prayers, healing vibes, kind words, and support. You have no idea how much it has meant to me. I feel so blessed to be surrounded by so many wonderful people. From the bottom of my heart, thank you.

* PT wanted me to run 5 - 7 miles this evening to see how my body responded. I decided to run 6. Pain increased until mile 3 and then it stayed pretty constant through mile 6. I feel like I can likely run 26.2 miles at this level of pain. I kept thinking, "Relax, enjoy the run." I think with the extra adrenaline and energy of other runners that I might be able to pull this off. :) Keeping my fingers crossed.
Thank you so so so much for all of the positive energy. I know this might sound crazy, but I believe it helps tremendously.
Do I really still have to study this evening?? :)

Starting to wonder if I shouldn't be here in Boston (just teasing) but get this:
SLC airport: Waiting for Ry to park the car. I was sitting on my carry-on (it was vertical) when it slipped out from under me and I landed flat on my coccyx!!! Seriously ... I'm not sure which hurt worse, my tushie or my pride. SO EMBARRASSING!!!
SLC airport: Right when we were getting ready to enter the plane some lady came out and said, "Sorry, there is no more overhead storage, all bags much be checked in." ARE YOU KIDDING ME???
Boston Logan airport: Hallelujah ... our bags are here!! WAIT!!!! It's broken!!! STINK!!!! The pocket that contained all my socks, undies, belts, and swimsuit is torn and missing half its contents!!! "Sorry madam, there is nothing we can do. Just fill out this form and someone should get in touch with you within four weeks." THIS HAS GOT TO BE A JOKE!!!
Hotel: Whew ... we are finally here. I am going to kick off my shoes and sit here at this desk and check my email. OUCH!!! I just ran over my stinkin' big toe with this heavy chair and now it is bleeding!!!!
SIGH ... LAUGH ... I deserve to get two jackets at the Expo! Done deal!!! :) :) :) Bring it!!!

LOVE Boston -- LOVE the course -- LOVED being able to start with Lark (a new friend, who is so incredible)!!!!
Part One (first 5K):
Started WAY WAY WAY too fast!!! BUT ... my reasoning was good (or so I tell myself). Lark and I were literally at the start line of the second wave. I have NEVER had the opportunity to lead a race, and knew that I would likely NEVER have the opportunity to do so again. BUT ... here we were ... it was BOSTON and I had the chance!!! Took off way fast (for me) and stuck with a group of 5 that was leading the way!!! Was able to stay right behind the motorcade for quite some time. Knew I would pay for it later but I was just so excited to be running after taking 3 weeks off and in the BOSTON MARATHON ... just couldn't pass this up (plus, I didn't even know if I was going to finish, so I was going to grab this memory). Decided I would find my pace after the 5K mark!!!
Part Two (miles 4 - 17):
Found my pace, right under 8 minute miles. Thought for sure I could run a sub 3:30. Had a HUGE grin on my face most of the time. Leg was painful, but it was doing better than I had expected. My stomach was acting up, probably had WAY too many pain meds in me (I won't even admit to how many) but I was able to keep the bulk of the miles right where I wanted them. I was one happy girl!
Part Three (the demise):
Things started really going south!!! STINK!!! Nothing was responding. I could not run relaxed and I thought that if I took any more pain meds that all heck might break loose. Tried to keep it going, but could not. Began throwing up in my mouth and swallowing it. Leg felt like it was going to bust open. Felt the consequences of starting out way too fast and not running for 3 weeks. STINK!!! It was getting EXTREMELY ugly. I was far too cocky the preceding miles and I was paying for it now. Watched my average pace go down down down down down. Dug as deep as I could but got no response!!! Tried to concentrate on the amazing aspects of running Boston but really just wanted to lay down in the middle of the street.
Sadly … my Boston Marathon pace ended up being slower than my long training runs!!! BUT … I ran it!!! I finished!!! And I gave it ALL I had!!! (And I have two cool jackets.)
Part Four (the aftermath):
My leg looked like it belonged on a Cabbage Patch doll for a couple of days! My cute hubby had to take me to all of my classes and pick me up because I could not walk. (HOWEVER, today it is starting to really improve.) The Ogden marathon by necessity has to be out. But would I do it again??? Yeah, I think so!!!
A special thanks to all of my friends for making Boston AWESOME!!!! Being part of such an amazing race is something I will NEVER forget!!!!
I love you guys!!!
My other Ry and me :)
So much fun with my SSF and the girls :)

8.1 miles -- AP 8:44
4 easy with Ry, AP 9:19 (Sophia ran the first .5 with us), but the last mile was an 8:14 - which included me running ahead so that I could push the pace up Home Stretch Hill - ran that hill (.4 miles) at a 7:20 pace.
Then 4.1 on my own: alternated 800 m at 5K pace (~ 7 minute mile) with very slow easy 800 m. Felt hard. Right knee was really hurting and it was windy. Have know idea how to translate this run into anything concrete. Hmmm ...
Ultrasounded knee before run, ice massage and tens unit after about 90 minutes after. |

So ... as usual I procrastinate getting ready for the race until it is almost time to go to bed. In my process of doing this I realized that my watch was almost dead and I could not find my charger anywhere!!! WHAT??? I looked everywhere. Couldn't find the silly thing. Hmmmm ... I have run very little since Boston (due to my silly leg/s) and most of that has been on the treadmill. Could it be that I left it in Boston. No way -- they would have called. Long story short ... they have it. Gave them my credit card and hopefully now it is in the mail!!! What a start! Luckily my friend Stevie has the same watch. He was nice enough to charge it and bring it in the morning
I had no idea how this race would turn out for me. My bib number was 3332. Smooth said that meant: Alive Alive Alive Easy. So, I interpreted that to mean that if I took this run easy that I would cross the finish line alive!!! Sounded perfect!!! Going in, I really wanted to run around a 3:45, but had truly decided that I would be happy with whatever, as long as I didn't make any stupid moves like I did at Boston!
Went up with a bunch of my running buddies from the neighborhood. The only bloggers with us was JohnnyV (who doesn't really blog much anymore) and RivertonPaul (cousin of JohnnyV), needless to say, I think many of the my friends will begin blogging now. As fortune would have it, we saw Andy, Lowell, and Rich Borget as we were deciding which bus to get on and were able to ride up with them. Although I missed the rest of the bloggers tremendously, it was fun to be with this group as I have not spent much time with them at all. As we were waiting for the race start a bunch of us started calling out Smooth's name -- but no response .
Before I knew it the race was off. I was shocked at how well I felt, I quickly wanted to change my plan and really race. However ... common sense (for once) kicked in and I settled for a not super easy, but definitely not a pushing it pace. My biggest fear was hitting the wall hard like I did at Boston -- I was almost certain it was going to happen (likely around mile 16 - 18) but my goal was to stave it off until the 20s. 16 came -- no wall, 18 -- still no wall, 20 -- I was definitely tired and slowing, but no wall, 22 -- same thing, 25 -- slowed way down, but nothing like Boston. Saw Andy, what a welcome site (it pays to be one of the harem) and MrsFit. Crossed the finish line in 3:38:18, my second best marathon time. AND ... I felt 100 times better than I did at the end of Boston. Make that 1000 times better.
Smooth told me she was going to run around a 4:20 ... I should have known better. I totally missed her!!! Stood at the finish line waiting and fearing as the clock was approaching 4:40. She snuck up behind me and I was SO HAPPY to see her. I am always amazed at how cheery she is even after suffering another major attack by that dang charlie!!!!
I think the only bummer part of the deal this race was everyone was talking about seeing Allie at mile 20 (I didn't see her). Dang!!!
Came home, chilled while I gulped down a slurpee watching my hot hubby do yardwork, attended a wedding reception, and then saw Letters to Juliet (cute show). GREAT DAY!!!!
Will take this week off and just crosstrain. I think that is what is best for my body.

Went to the gym to bike and swim this morning. But after I finished on the bike I realized that I left my stinkin' swimming stuff at home.

Not as great as I had hoped, but not horrible either. Still at that point where I have to find just the right pace or things don't feel right. I can't really describe it as pain, because it doesn't hurt. It just feels really tight and weak. Does that make sense? I am talking about the opposite leg as the one that gives me problems with anterior compartment syndrome. That leg feels great. I think what I am dealing with now still has to do with compensating way too much at Boston.

Oh yeah ... you all have to try this ... my kids, Ry and I LOVE IT!!!!!
4 Tablespoons brownie mix
2 Tablespoons water
- mix it in a cup that you can put in the microwave
- microwave for 1 minute
******* It makes the best little brownie ... so yummy and warm and gooey ... AND ... no oil, butter, eggs, etc. The only problem is that it is so easy that a 5 year old can do it so you have to be careful not to continually make them throughout the day like I did yesterday!!!! I have tried it with muffin mixes as well ... it works ... but the brownies are the BEST!!!! |

Oh yeah -- I tried the brownie trick with a fiber one mix ... it worked. Are fiber one muffins really good for you though? I think it is kind of deceiving since the sugar grams are still pretty high. Hmmmm ....

15.76 miles -- my legs are so heavy -- not sure if it is still the aftermath of two marathons in the past 6 weeks or if it is the lower body stuff I have been doing.
** After looking at all my lower body issues these past couple of years and trying to figure out what the deal is I have come up with a new theory for myself. This might sound totally lame but I am pretty convinced that my gluteus maximus is not maximus enough. Seriously. Seems like my lateral rotators are super weak, especially my stinkin' bootie muscles (or lack of bootie muscles might be more appropriate). Here's to a bigger and stronger tush. Will see if my theory holds true ... giving it 3 committed months of working on those dang lateral rotators. :)
** Big regret today: not running with my SSF. I woke up feeling blah and didn't even know if I would make it 10 miles. Just was not feeling it. Smooth was right, I would make it if I chose to ... I should have listened to her and ran with her. Big mistake on my part.
** Another stupid thing I did today was begin my run with the wind at my back ... that made the last half miserable. Yes, I am a big baby!!! Seriously.
My daughter, Rylee, was giving me piggyback ride yesterday down our hallway. She wanted a picture of her carrying her mother. Payton was the photographer and he took this shot when we weren't ready (Rylee wanted me to fix her bangs) -- it is my favorite. I have the best kids in the world!!! :)

8 miles with my SSF
Went to Lehi High School to do some speedwork on the track. I know this sounds crazy, but I have NEVER ran on a track before. My speed as of late has really been quite stinky, and hence I have avoided working on it since I hate being disappointed with the splits. What a copout.
~ 2.25 miles warmup
dynamic stretching
5 X 800 meteres with 400 meters jog in between (albeit I walked 200 meters after the 3rd and 4th 800 ... seriously ... what a baby.)
Splits for the 800 meters were: 3:29, 3:29, 3:28, ? (forgot to hit the lap button), 3:25
The best part of the run by far were our cool down miles (~ 2.25) which we did barefoot on the astro turf on the football field. I LOVED THAT!!! It felt so good to run barefoot on that surface. Every now and then I would run a sprint or jump in and out of a tire that was on the field. Too bad there is not an astro turf marathon. Man that was heavenly.
One last thing:
MY SSF ROCKS!!!!
(SERIOUSLY ... THERE IS NO ONE ELSE LIKE HER! HOW DID I GET SO LUCKY?)

Today's run was to judge where I am at and try to make a plan for UVM. From the get go my legs felt extremely tired. Still waiting for them to spring back to life.
Ran on the JRP to 2100 South and then got lost a few times trying to find my hubby's work. It worked out perfectly though, since I ended up with exactly 15 miles upon arrival.
I had one scary moment though ... I was running on part of the trail when out of nowhere this older looking guy, not well kept, came down a side hill on his bike. He jumped off of the bike and started chasing me. My fears were eliminated fairly quickly as I looked back after what seemed like a long time (but was probably only 10 seconds or so) and he had already stopped. I think he was not all there. But it sure scared me.
After running the marathon pace miles (which I am now counting as anything under 8:12) I took it really easy (except for the short encounter previously mentioned) and kind of lolligagged along, stopping at a Maverick to get some more fluids, stopping at the E Center to take some pictures of high school grads with their families, asking for directions, and so forth. So not sure how helpful this run was.
I have decided that I will run UVM like I did Ogden. A hard training run, but not full on out race. |

4 miles -- that felt like who knows how many.
Spent the last few days at Wolfcreek with the family. So strange how driving up the canyon in Ogden brings back all the butterflies and anticipation of running a marathon. Anyway ... decided to run up the canyon from our timeshare then turn around and run down. Was going to run up 3 miles but it started getting dark and I was nervous about being up there alone (nice excuse ... the uphill and very small headwind was kicking my trash) so turned around at the 2 mile point.
My pace was super slow going up ... I was frustrated about that but once I downloaded the info on my laptop I can see why ... I gained a little over 700 feet in those two miles. Unfortunately, coming down was worse. The wind was now at my back pushing me and it was far too steep - I never felt like I had control or could run relaxed. Every stride sent a pain up my silly leg -- making me so stinkin' mad. I really stink at running downhill.
Anyway ... made it back in one piece. :) |

| Fun morning. Just wanted to take it easy.
Ran 2 miles meandering through the neighborhoods (ran into JohnnyV and chatted for a sec and then into a cyclist while I was waiting for the light to change that ended up being a guy from Gold's, Doug -- I would have never recognized him in his helmet and shades, but I guess a runner's look doesn't change much :). Ended up arriving at the gym for some biking.
30 minutes upright bike.
Ran 2 miles back home backtracking.
When I approached my street I could see Sophia and Oliver doing sprints up and down the street. SO DANG CUTE!!!!
Then it was the best part of the morning -- running with the kids!! Albeit, Rylee and Livvy still prefer their beauty rest.

I'm not sure if it was the day off yesterday or the rain this morning but my body felt so much more relaxed than it has as of late. This was the first run in a long time that I thoroughly enjoyed. LOVE THIS RACE!!!
Highlights:
* Picking my SSF up a little after 3:30 a.m. and chillin' with her!!!
* Chatting with Smooth and Rich Borget on the bus ride up.
* Hanging with my SSF and Maynard at the starting line. And get this ... out of nowhere Smooth climbs into a garbage sack that some guy (who none of us know) IS WEARING!!! SO SO SO FUNNY!!!
* The rain!! Oh how I love the rain!! :)
* Running with so many old and new friends! (Natalie, Mark, Slick, Marc, Canyon, Andrew ... I'm sure there were more but my mind is fuzzy right now.)
* Getting my powerade from Andy at mile 9!!! (Bummed that I didn't see Alisa at her station).
* Realizing around mile 15 that I could PR -- deciding to try!
* Seeing Prez. Smooth at mile 20.5
* Seeing Andy and his girls drive by and holler in their vehicle
* Tom Slick pinching my tush at mile 24 (startled me then made me laugh)
* The site of Kelli with .75 miles to go. As usual, at the end of a marathon I think I have nothing left. Kelli assured me that my breathing was great and that I could run faster. I trusted her and with her encouragement (i.e. "Teena, don't let those guys right there beat you ... got it ... sprint ... now!!!") was able to pass a bunch of men. SWEET!
* Rhett and RivertonPaul cheering at the finish line.
* PRing by 1 minute and 43 seconds. :)
* Having MrsFit (Kristi) hang my medal around my neck! Volunteers ROCK!!!
* Watching my SSF cross the finish line with a smile on her face and NO CHARLIE!!!
* Enjoying so many friends at the end. Man ... some of you bloggers had KILLER times!!!
*** Seriously, absolutely LOVED this race!!!
Got home and enjoyed hanging with the family. We saw Karate Kid and then went to a pizza buffet place!!! I ate so so so much and feel great!!! :) |

12.6 miles with the Chumps. Had a good size group this morning -- so so so so so glad Smooth made it! :)
Unfortunately, had major leg problems and pain. STINK. I am glad the chumps were with me because they made me stop and walk. I walked an additional 4-5 miles home, Slick was kind enough to walk me with. Thank you so much Slick, you are a wonderful friend for whom I am extremely grateful. If I had not been with the group I know I would have continued to run through the pain until I got home. Hopefully their wisdom will save me some healing time.
** I tried to run different paces to see if anything would help. Nothing. Dang. :(

** 6 hours later:
Okay, after going through the "why can't my body handle this" and "I am so stinkin' mad" phases I am feeling emotionally better. Here's the up side: last time I felt this type of pain was during my 22 miler before Boston. Last time I ran a whole 22 miles through it. This time, however, I only ran about half that. SO ... who knows ... maybe a week of rest is all I need! :)
I am SO SO SO glad everyone made me stop. Thanks Chumps!!!

Early morning with the Chumps.
I was so excited to test out my new shoes (and insoles). Overall, the run was a success, albeit 2 weeks of very little running does take its toll. No pain to speak of, just very heavy and tired legs (crazy since I have not been running, you would think they would be springy and full of life). Kept all my miles around 9 minutes and yet by 12 miles I was very tired. Blah.
Ran 10.5 miles with Brooke and Matt. At that point they turned to go home. I was going to continue to run by myself when Paul showed up. I guess the Chumps think I need a babysitter in order to make sure I don't do anything stupid and re-injure myself. Little did Paul know I was already feeling fatigued and was not going to try and speed up. Paul ran with me a couple of miles until we ran into Vuyk and Mark who were heading back. Vuyk and I decided to take it easy (it wasn't a real decision for me, more of a necessity) while Paul and Mark took off faster than fast!
Really missing how good I felt those few months before Boston. Please oh please oh please let that come back.
* Spent the remainder of the morning and afternoon helping Ry's parents with their garage sale -- yikes, that was a mess. (Although I did get my hands on some of Ry's old high school baseball sweats that he cut off and wore around the house. LOVE THEM!!! Can't wait to lounge around in them myself! :)
* * Now 24 hours later I am stiff but no real pain. :) |

** Ry had to come and find me to give me more fluids. What a guy! :) It was also fun to finally meet Brent and Sylvie (and their doggy). Was able to run the last mile on grass barefoot (since Ry said he would come and get me from there). LOVED THAT LAST MILE.
Overall, I feel really good about this run. It was not nearly as fast as I would like it to be (eventually) and I did take a couple of breaks, but I got in the miles with only fatigue, no pain. :)

My first (albeit homemade) sprint triathlon! :)
I was riding the upright bike this morning reading a book when I thought to myself: "Hey ... why don't you shake it up a bit and do a sprint. I quickly reviewed the distances in my mind to see if I had time (I had only scheduled 90 minutes in for a workout) and it seemed that I might just be able to pull it off.
I didn't want to push too hard, but I wanted to put in a decent effort. I know that it is customary to start in the pool but I didn't decide this until I was 20 minutes into my bike ride. :)

Midnight Moonlight Madly Right Marathon
(Bodyguards and all!)
SSF and I getting ready to hit it!
The Bodyguards!!!
(Nic, Fonz, and Johnny)
The Midnight Crew
This is HANDS DOWN the funnest marathon I have ever run! What more could I ask for? Running with my SSF on a beautiful night bodyguarded by two of my brothers and Fonz. IT WAS FABULOUS.
The boys took shifts protecting the women-folk! THANKS BOYS! However, I must admit that my brother, Johnny, will not be getting an invite for such a position next year. HE WAS THE WORST BODYGUARD EVER!! Not only did he run ahead but he got stinkin' LOST!!! What a nutjob! :) Luckily Nic was there to alleviate any fears we might have had otherwise. Second shift was Fonz! Seriously, so cool of him to be willing to run with us old ladies. I don't know if he has ever run that slow of a pace before (in fact, I don't think I have ever seen him run anything slower than a 6 minute mile), but he was GREAT, even pushing me hard a few different times. I wanted to kill him, but man it felt good! (Thanks for letting us bombard your house!)
I will NEVER forget this run. I feel so lucky to be surrounded by such wonderful people in my life. Any of you who know Smooth know just how lucky I am. She had me laughing so hard. The first 20 miles went by like nothing. And for those of you who read her blog about our run I need to clarify something right now: I wanted to run 20 or 22 miles ... it was Smooth who wanted to run 24 ... it was ONLY then that I said, "Blah ... if we are going to run 24 we might as well run 26.2." She is trying to blame me ... but it is was HER!!!! :) :) :)
** SSF, Johnny, Nic and Fonz: THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!! This will be one of those runs that will put a smile on my face each time I think about it!
************
AND as if the day could not get any better ... I tagged along with Smooth and Larry to watch the D-News marathoners run it in! THAT WAS AWESOME!!! Congrats to all of you on your fine races today, it was so much fun watching so many bloggers do so well. Smooth's brother-in-law, Gary, is NOT HUMAN!!! He looked so relaxed and aerodynamic as he ran through the finish line at a 3:07 and Allie -- YOU AMAZE ME!!!! :) :) :) |

After watching some Bolt clips I really wanted to try and hit some speed. No worries, I played it smart, warmed up well, and then just sprinkled speed throughout. 1 marathon pace mile, 1 threshold mile, 3 800s at VO2 max, and 2 400s as well. FELT SO GOOD TO HIT ANOTHER GEAR.

2 mile swim.
* About 1 mile into my swim I had to share a lane with this guy trying to do the backstroke. He was ALL over the place. I figured all of his hitting my head and kicking my body was good practice for an open water tri. Sure did start to bug me though. Dang.
** With about 1/3 of a mile to go I started feeling really fatigued, my swimming was not nearly as smooth, I had slowed down considerably and was starting to swallow water. I stopped, put on some nice slow music (Allred -- good stuff) took a few deep breaths and started again. Crazy how a 2 minute break and change of music could bring me right back to where I wanted to be. I don't think I will ever swim for speed (at least that is what I am saying right now). I enjoy the weightlessness and peace of swimming relaxed and smoothly too much. It's a nice break. So good for my body, spirit, and mind.

We got off to a little bit late of a start (started running at 5:25 instead of 5). Not sure if the late start had to do with anything but by 8:00 I was exhausted. Running PC with my SSF
I have been so nervous about the Park City Marathon in two weeks. Today I realized why ... DANG ... that race is going to kick my trash!!!!
Smooth picked me up at 6:15 and we headed out. The plan was to run 12 miles covering the hardest miles of the marathon. I wanted to run them hard ... little did I know that no matter how you run those miles ... they are HARD!! (I can be such a baby!)
We got turned around and confused a few times, but there was no way confusing those uphill miles to Deer Valley and the huge hill on 8th street before hitting Empire. (We actually ran that hill twice to try and convince ourselves that we were tough.)
I have to admit that I was always more than happy to stop at a stoplight or take a breather when trying to figure out which way to turn.
The best part BY FAR was breakfast afterwards!
I have the GREATEST SSF EVER!!!! :)

17.5 miles on Smooth's absolutely BEAUTIFUL Alpine Loop course. :) :) :)
No Chumps run today, so Smooth convinced me that running in Lehi would be well worth the drive. She was SO SO SO right.
Met up with Smooth and her gang a little after 6. The weather was amazing. Ran a couple of miles with my SSF and Staci and then got caught up in the beauty of the area and wanted to find a natural but good effort pace. Seriously, this was one of the prettiest training runs I have ever run. I LOVED it. Albeit, I had no idea that we were going to be running hills again! Well worth it though. :) :) :)
Not sure if I should count my marathon pace miles as marathon pace since they were downhill. Hmmm ...
Anyway ... THANK YOU SO MUCH SMOOTH!!!!!
** On a side note ... Smooth failed to mention in her entry how stinkin' amazing she is AND how she smoked me on the last mile!!!! If that girl wouldn't run so many dang marathons she could easily knock off 20 minutes! She NEVER gives herself enough credit!
(Came home and went boating ... only to get out in the water for about an hour and turn around and come back home. Dang wind!)

** There is this older guy at my gym. We have been smiling at each other and exchanging greetings for quite some time now. Today he was wearing a Provo River Half t-shirt. I asked him how it went, etc. We got talking for quite some time. This guy is AMAZING! He is 66 years old (I thought he was mid to late 50s -- looks fantastic). In his twenties he ran for the University of Utah (I knew he was RED). He talked about the good 'ol days when he would run a 4:12 mile and sub15 5K!! Wow!!! I enjoyed talking to him so much. At 66, with not much training, he ran the Half in 1:51. Cool cool guy! He is headed to South Africa for a couple of weeks, but can't wait to talk to him again. :) |

What a beautiful morning.
I was thrilled last night when Ry told me that he would run the first handful of miles with me this morning (it must have been the chocolate covered gummibears I bought for him). :)
True to his word he got up and out the door we went. We ran 2.25 miles to West Jordan High School's track. Then he timed me on a couple of 400s. Then we ran back home. Almost a perfect five miles. :) I kissed him goodbye and then headed out again, this time to the JRP. I was surprised how good I felt (other than some tightness in my right lateral rotators ... which always comes and goes any time I add hills to my training). I stopped at Geranium Park and took off my shoes and socks and ran one mile barefoot on the soccer field grass in honor of Rhett's running again! :) :) :) It felt AWESOME. Ran back home, throwing 2 800s in towards the end. Grabbed Sophia and Livvy for a one mile cooldown. Was very happy with how this run went.
Happy Thursday!!! :) :) :) |

HAPPY BIRTHDAY
JOHNNY!!!
It is JohnnyV's birthday today. Cool!
Due to the nature of individual needs the Chumps run today began with a staggered start with everyone meeting up at Winchester at 6:00 to continue or finish their run. I actually think this is a really great way to do it. Hope we make it tradition.
It was a nice easy 13ish miler. I have no idea of exact pace or distance since my watch battery was dead. Like a fool, I wore it anyway. Being the habitual person I am I kept glancing down thinking it was going to magically juice itself back up and begin working. It never did! Dang.
Once we finished we celebrated Johnny's birthday like ROCKSTARS with 7/11 slurpees!!!
Let the good times roll!!! :)
P.S. #1:
Brent, when are you and Sylvie going to start running with us? We always see you!!!!
P.S. #2:
If anyone hears Smooth say she is slow again ... remind her that she was running some of her miles in the 7:20s today!!!!!!

* I have been fighting a sinus cold for over a week now. My head finally started feeling better but yesterday I began having massive upper teeth pain. I've had this before and it lasted for weeks. Anyway, I decided to run to the Target in Jordan Landing and see if there was any over the counter meds that would help. I took only my debit card with me. Unfortuantely, the pharmacist said that my best bet would be sudafed, but that she couldn't sell it to me because I didn't have identification. STINK!!!
I guess I should head back, but this time I will drive! :) |

Stinky Day.
Could not sleep more than 10-15 minutes at a time last night. The antiobiotics didn't seem to be working as every hour my face began to swell more and more. Ry looked at me this morning and started making phone calls.
Just got back from the endodontist. He redid (is that a word?) a root canal (or at least the first half of it, I have to go back next Tuesday to finish it), switched my antiobiotics and put me on some pain meds. Whatever, all I know is that it hurts.
I look like I am storing kiwis in my left cheek. Dang.
Ry just went to pick up the meds. I hope they knock me out.
The endodontist did not know if I would be feeling up to running PCM this Saturday.

Debated on whether to post today or not. I am having a rough time and am quite sad. Selfishly, I have decided to post because so many of you on here have the ability to lift my spirits and make me smile.
It has been a hard couple of days. What I thought was merely a sinus infection has turned out to be quite a mess. I had a root canal some time ago, and whether this is where the problem began, or where it ended I am not sure. All I know is that the infection spread throughout the entire left side of my face and head.
After the endodontist re-did the root canal I was in hopes that things would improve. Unfortunately the pain continued to increase as well as the swelling. Last night the swelling had progressed to where my eye began to shut. Needless to say, I ended up with an IV pumping additional antiobiotics through my body, and will have additional IV therapy today and Thursday. (I was supposed to leave the insertion of the IV in but pulled it out last night in frustration, dang.)
Anyway, that is the update. I am still holding out hopes for PCM this Saturday, but am starting to have my doubts.
My family is calling me Cindy-Lou-Who from Jim Carey's Grinch. I guess that is better than Fat Face or Chubby Cheeks. :)
** On a positive note, I was able to sleep some last night and the pain is less today than it was yesterday. I was able to eat a yogurt this morning and am hopes of things improving by the hour. :) :) :)

4th day on oral antibiotics.

Pain is decreasing some, swelling ... not so much.
** I think that the resting and taking it easy can only get me so far (and it makes me feel like a slug). I am going to take a nice walk and do everything I need to get done around the house so that I can leave for Park City later this afternoon. Yeah, I have a fat face ... who cares!!! (Yeah, I know ... I care ... but I am going to fake hardcoreness nonetheless!)

BEAUTIFUL DAY!!!
14 years ago today I married the boy who has been my best friend since I was 12. :)
* 2 mile jog with my boy
We slept in, went for a jog, went out for breakfast, and now are just chillin' at the pool. He looks so cute reading his *bang 'em up, shoot 'em up* Vince Flynn novel wearing his Boston Marathon baseball cap backwards and his callaway shades.
The swelling in my face began going down yesterday and is continuing to improve by the hour. Pain is also lessening substantially. No tylenol with codeine last night or today! :) :) :)

WARNING: LONG!!! IF YOU ARE ONLY GOING TO READ ONE PART OF THIS RACE REPORT, READ MILE 20! :) :) :)
First, a quick shout out to antibiotics – especially when given intravenously.
Tuesday morning I was pretty confident that I would not be running this race. For those of you who saw the worst of my pics you know what I am talking about. Fortunately, the combination of three different antibiotics worked their magic in about 72 hours. Hallelujah!!
In short, I loved this race. It was definitely not a fast course, and was extremely difficult in portions, but spending time with friends and running in such a beautiful part of Utah made it absolutely unforgettable.
Here's the rundown:
Loved the openness of the first several miles. I could see the leaders off in the distance and tried to feed off of their energy. I had started with Mark (huans32) but soon he left me in his dust. Sadly he had a rough day and I caught up to him around mile 10, which was about the same time that I saw Pres. Smooth and his huge smile! Awesome, I needed that.
The major uphill portions were right around the corner and I tried not to psyche myself out. Ironically, this portion of the race ended up being one of my favorites. I felt a surge of electricity as the leaders came in view. Amber looked SUPER!!!!! I was completely re-energized as she stuck out her hand for a high-five. Seriously, what lead woman (or man for that fact) does that? She seemed to be celebrating life and enjoying every second as she was running supersonic speeds!!! That girl is something else!!!
Next, I saw Slick and Kristi. I was having so much fun that I completely didn’t register the directions the volunteer was giving me to turn up Deer Valley. He had said left, I heard it, I smiled and said, "thank you" and then turned right!!!!! Luckily he ran after me and got me back on track.
Within seconds of my failure to follow directions I saw RivertonPaul running effortlessly down Deer Valley. On my way back down I enjoyed the smile of my SSF. (It was such a relief to see her. She looked so strong and I had been so worried because she was so sick.) Yes, these miles were technically the hardest, but dang they were fun!!!!
(Should I mention the hill up to Empire Street? Nah ... I followed the example of others and walked the blasted thing. Dang!)
MILE 20 – I will NEVER EVER EVER forget this mile. My plan for the race was simple: Just get to mile 20 and Andy will make sure you get across the finish line! True to his word, Andy was there! Our journey together began with a real bang! Let me explain: There was an aide station ahead and I was already feeling the signs of glycogen depletion. I reached for a Gatorade, but two guys grabbed them. So as the station was ending, and after hollering, “Gatorade please.” I reached and grabbed a cup on the very edge of the table. I took a huge gulp. Something was off. Being the hypochondriac that I sometimes am I immediately panicked and started thinking to myself, “Stink! I am entering ketosis, and the burning icky taste I am experiencing is my own protein that I must be burning. I better force down a couple more swallows to avoid dehydration.” My second gulp was just as bad, but I forced myself to swallow. Wait a second, why was there ice in my cup? “Hmmm . . .” I thought, “Since when did they start doing this?” I asked Andy to take a swig. The look on his face was priceless, “This isn’t Gatorade, Teena, this is ALCOHOL!!! It's vodka and orange juice!!!!!!” What in the ...????. I must have grabbed the volunteer’s personal drink!!! Andy was so extremely nice and ran back to his vehicle to grab me something he was certain was Gatorade! Alcohol at mile 20 .... I still laugh each time I think about it!!!!
By mile 23 I was hammered (unfortunately, not by the alcohol). Had Andy not been there I am sure that I would have slowed to a shuffle. He would have none of that. He'd see a woman ahead and tell me to pass her. He knew exactly how to motivate me. Thank you so so so much Andy. I cannot tell you enough how much I appreciated having you there to see me through.
In conclusion (this is much longer than I had planned) I have NEVER placed in the top three of my division in any major race, let alone first!!!
I was giddy all day!! :) :) :)
*A very special thanks to all those super fast women in my age group who stayed home so that my dream could come true!!! *

My favorite weather to run in! :)
10.25 miles AP: 8:02
(I have been trying not to concentrate on pace so much as effort, so have not been recording my splits. The stinky thing about that is that now when I look back I have nothing to compare it with. So ... I will start keeping track again, but will continue to try and concentrate on effort.)
Ran is Sugarhouse. SHP x 2/2100/P/F then reverse. Went up came back down! :)

Happy with the effort.
I will now do a mini-taper for the Poky Full. :)

I'm going to take it super super super easy the next couple of days in hopes that Poky will go well.
I'm not sure I am cut out for this multiple marathon thing that Smooth enjoys so much!!!! After this Saturday I would have run more marathons in the past 5 months than I had in the 4 years prior!!!! How in the world did I let Smooth talk me into this??? :) :) :) |

Talk about spoiled rotten! All this race cost me was one Boston Creme Pie and a package of cookies!!! Thank you so much dearest friends for the lunch, dinner, hotel room, ride, and comped entry. :) :) :)
Quick prerace summary: Took a couple days off in hopes of restoring some energy to my legs. Not sure if it helped or if I would have been better off running a couple of short easy runs.
Had a BLAST on Friday with some of my favorite and most wonderful people: my SSF, her sweet hubby, Larry, Kathie, Doone, and Rhett (and their friends, Leslie and Ross). They are all amazingly INCREDIBLE! I am such a lucky girl! I could write a novel about how much fun we had. (Yet, us girls have made a pact: What happens on race weekend, stays in race weekend!)
Race summary: Started out too fast, but once the mile split showed up I quickly made adjustments. Around mile 7ish there is a turn-around point where you can see who is in front of you. Counted, I was in 12th (for women). Made a goal of being in the top 10 by 13.1 where I would see the half marathoners right before they started. Didn't know if it was doable but I wanted to give it a shot. Mission accomplished (barely)!!! :) It was BEYOND COOL to have the half marathoners cheering us on!!! I immediately saw Rhett, Kathie and Larry. Some other people yelled, but I'm not sure who it was. They made me feel like a ROCKSTAR!!! Good thing ... because the next 13.1 were going to be a struggle! :)
I knew it would not be long until the leaders of the half would pass me! Sure enough, come 15.75 miles Jeff Shadley and Rob Murphy came zooming by like no other! THEY LOOKED AWESOME!!! Just watching them run for those few seconds (they were quickly out of my sight) was extremely cool. A huge congrats to them both, taking the #1 and #2 spots!!! :) :) :)
Having many of the half marathoners pass me for the duration of the race was extremely challenging mentally. They all looked so fresh, and I was starting to feel the wheels come off. DANG! Also, since all of the downhill of this course comes during the first half, watching my average pace increase each mile was discouraging. I really wanted to run a sub 3:30, but by mile 19 I knew that was no going to happen. At that point I had a choice to make: take it easy and try and enjoy the remaining miles or continue to push and not have to deal with the disappointed of not giving it my all later. Decided to go with the latter. To keep myself honest I decided to surge 1/10th of a mile at every 9/10ths of a mile. Mentally, this helped me.
By mile 24.5 I knew if I could hang on that I could PR, the question was, would I be able to hang on? Fortuitously, that was almost the exact spot that I saw Bill Mandler! He was fighting an injury and had to back off of the pace! I was sad for him, but selfishly very happy to see him. "Bill," I said. "Can you get me to a PR?" He was AWESOME!!!! I told him what I needed and no longer did I have to look at my watch every 10 seconds. He took control and ran me in. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU, BILL!!!! :) :) :)
Garmin read 26.4 at finish.
ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC DAY!!!! My SSF, finished pretty (no Charlie today) taking 1st in her AG! Beautiful Kathie ran the half and took 3rd in her AG!!! The Amazing Doone ran her very first marathon in an amazing time with her hunk, Rhett running along her side the final 13.1 miles! Ross and Leslie looked like a million bucks after finishing their race, and Lowell walked away with grinning ear to ear placing 2nd in his AG as well!!!
A special thanks to Pocatello, Idaho!! What a wonderful race and wonderful people! So so so happy that I went! :) :) :)
*** AFTERTHOUGHTS: I wonder if I would have been able to swipe another vodka/oj mixture at mile 20, like I was able to at PCM, if I could have hit that sub 3:30!!!!???? Hmmmmmm ....
L to R: Ross, Leslie, Kathie, Doone, Smooth, Rhett, Teena

| Smooth and Lowell talked me into running this race a few days ago. I have a hard time saying no to either a comped entry or my SSF, so I was in double jeopardy from the get go.
Did not have any set goals for this race. I knew that I would not be able to PR and I didn't want to do anything stupid one week after Poky and so soon before SGM. I thought if I could run it around 1:44 (slightly faster than marathon pace) that it would be a good sign that my body is recovering nicely and responding well to these multiple marathons.
There was a headwind for much of the first half, which also happens to be the gradual uphill miles. Dang. Coming down was much nicer. Sadly, my legs did not have any zip today, but thankfully I had no pain or soreness either ... just a bit heavy and tired. I will take it! :)
I ran this race two years ago (on much fresher legs) in 1:46:38 (roughly 3 1/2 minutes slower than today) and then proceeded to run SGM in 3:34:59. I'm hoping this means I will run 7 minutes faster this year. Oh please, oh please, oh please ... I would be on cloud nine!!! :) :) :)
The highlight of this race was Michelle Lowry smashing the course record (which also happened to be hers). My SSF, as usual, did amazing as did Maynard and Lowell! :) :) :)

ABSOLUTELY beautiful (albeit fairly tough) run up and down City Creek. Mark (aka: Fly) was a trooper and slowed down enough so that I could run with him today. LOVED it! The scenery and company were top notch. Thank you so much, Fly! :)
We ran up up and up for 5.6 miles (4704 feet to 6051 feet -- dang) and then turned around and ran down down down. The gorgeous mini-waterfalls and caves at the top made for a very nice reward.

15 miles AP: 8:44
Pfitz 4 weeks between marathon schedule had me run a 15 miler today. I wasn't looking forward to it, but had planned carefully my week so that I could fit it into my planned taper.
About 10 miles into my run it started to rain ... PERFECT, I love the rain. But dang, then it started to rain HARD and then to hail!!! My ipod shorted out and I was literally soaking wet. My shoes felt like they were ten pounds and my toes on my right foot felt like they were blistering. Luckily the hard stuff only last about 1.5 miles. My ipod never did come back. I will stick it in a bowl of rice and see if I can revive it.
Glad this run is over. Now I will concentrate on resting sufficiently!!! :) :) :)

10.9 miles - AP 7:51 (logged all but my first mile at marathon pace even though they varied a bit. Effort was consistent).
SO MUCH FUN THIS MORNING!!!! :)
Had 15 or so people for our group run at the Porter Rockwell Trail. Everyone must have heard that the TOU womens' champ was going to be there (thanks for coming Allie)! :)
Ran with Mark (huans32), Vinh, and Marty (well most of the time ... they left me in the dust the last few miles -- I was more than thrilled just to keep them in sight)! :)
5.47 gradual up then 5.47 gradual down.
Felt strong throughout. Pushed a bit at times but overall it felt comfortably hard but nice.
Splits: 8:50, 8:25, 7:59, 8:11, 8:05, 7:29, 7:24, 7:35, 7:35, 7:35, 7:11
Quick question: My shoelace came untied (go figure -- it was double knotted) with only .23 miles to go. I quickly went back and forth whether to stop or not. I ended up stopping (knowing me I would have tripped and got hurt 1 week before SGM - ask Mark). BUT ... at the end of a race ... do you stop or just press your luck?
THANKS EVERYONE FOR SUCH A GREAT MORNING (LOVED HAVING BREAKFAST AFTERWARDS)!!!! :)

Just really happy right now.
Ran the race I wanted to. My pace did slow from mile 20 to the finish, but I was okay with that. We were all in the same boat ... it was HOT, and I was running the best I could for that moment. I turned on some tunes (compliments of Fonz's "help dull the pain" collection) and held on for dear life. :)
It was great to run a bit with Matt (best physiology prof EVER), Larry and Lyman. It was also quite satisfying to slap Slick as hard as I could on his buttocks around mile 22 (payback).
It has been a wonderful running season. I accomplished more than I thought I could. I PR'd and ended up placing 3rd overall in the Slam. The plaque was really nice and I received a $50 gift card to Wasatch Running as well. Nice!!!
As always, it was so good to spend time with friends. There were so many of us that met up at the buses that we almost filled one entirely by ourselves. VERY COOL!!
** Quick question: Why is it that each time I could tell that someone was about to throw up (happened 4 times) that I told myself: "Teena, don't look" AND THEN I PROCEEDED TO LOOK????

Today was one of those days when life is just plain good!
Spent the morning and evening with the birthday girl, my SSF. :) :) :)
We ran the Rail Trail in Park City with Brooke and Matt. Absolutely wonderful conversation and company. Just enjoyed being in the moment. :)
In the evening we saw Secretariat. WOW!!!! Absolutely LOVED this movie! It was one of those flicks where you leave feeling wonderful. Yes, I know, some of it is a little cliche', but dang, I fell for it!!! :) :) :)

I'm thinking I might run one of these two marathons instead (see links below). They are both during my Spring Break and so would work out PERFECTLY. They look awesome!!! Ry and I could make a vacation out of it since I will have a week off. :) :) :)
Anyone know anything about either of these races?

We were in St. George for the weekend to celebrate an early Thanksgiving with my grandpa. So running this half was extremely convenient and fulfilled one of the two races required to complete the runners series. Bonus! :)
Beautiful day for a race. It has been a tough week and so my only goals were to run hard and enjoy the moment. I must admit that I was a tad nervous since last time I ran this race I was rewarded with a stress fracture that took over 6 months to completely heal.
I decided to push myself to a hard pace but one that would still allow for a speedy recovery if I needed one at all. One of the greatest lessons I learned this year with all my racing is knowing when I am at that pace. :)
Pleasantly surprised with my time of 1:34:03. Had I known that I was only 13 seconds behind the 3rd place woman in my division I could have pushed harder. Oh well. I will gladly take the 3 1/2 minute PR.
This course is stunning and fast! :)

** On a side note: While I was doing homework last night I was semi-tuned into the news that was on FOX 13. I usually don't watch that channel when it comes to news, last night was a prime example why. I didn't catch all of the details, but apparently some restaurant owner (or someone) was taken hostage somewhere around Milcreek canyon. The guy who was held hostage was driving while the criminal had a gun. To the guy's credit he ran his truck into a police station to get someone's attention. Here's the part that just kills me, the news lady then proceeded to ask the guy reporter telling the story: "I wonder why he ran into the police building, didn't he have a cell phone with him?" ARE YOU KIDDING ME?????

Love my thursday runs with Fly. Needless to say, I am going to call the route we ran today, "Dang Fly, We Should Have Turned Around Quite Some Time Ago Loop!!!!!"
I was planning on our normal 7-10 mile run, but Mark had other plans! :)
Started at Morris Meadow's trail head followed the Bonneville Shoreline Trail to the Dry Gulch then the Red Butte Loop then back. I did fine until about mile 10 at which point I felt like I had been hit by a bus. What's up with that? I even had to walk for a bit a few times. Dang.
I am presently starving ... I know candy bars aren't good for me ... but I am eating the ones left over from Halloween. I don't care!!! :)
** A special thanks to Fly for being so patient with me. I could tell that he had the energy to leave me in the dust, but he was kind not to! I appreciated that, as I would have certainly been lost!! :)

Matt and Brooke talked me into running on the JRP this morning in the bittercold!!! I am so so so happy they did. 2 really slow warmup miles in the cardio cinema watching Date Night
(moved to the open gym to add some pressure)
4 miles of FFs
2 miles cooldown (kind of): 3/4 of a mile at 8:34 followed by 1/4 of a mile at my max speed, twice

Rec center with the family.
2 miles with Ry on the indoor track (8:30, 7:40)
upperbody weights (tried to show off for my boy -- I am going to pay for it tomorrow)
A handful of games of speed with the fam. I looked pathetic - after the upperbody workout my arms could not shoot the ball at all!!!!
** On a side note: Undecided on registering for the Slam. Not quite sure it will be as doable in 2011 as it was in 2010 (if all goes well with school). Dang ... looks like I have until midnight to decide. :)
** Another side note: I am conveniently allowing myself to believe that these Sweeet Potato krinkle cut chips from Costco are a good snack. It is okay to eat the whole bag in a few sittings because they are made with natural ingredients: sweet potatoes, expeller pressed oil ("expeller" being the operative word) and sea salt. Furthermore, you get a FULL SERVING of vegetables in every ounce. So technically, if I eat the whole bag I am really just eating 16.5 servings of veggies!!! Right? :) :) :)

2 miles by myself, 7.1 miles with Fly from City Creek up to and around Ensign's Peak.
******************************
I'm pretty sure Fly and I found Winterland's playground!!! :) :) :) A couple miles into our run Fly asked me, "Okay, should we run the safer route, or should we be adventurous?" After having me sign a disclaimer we were off!!!! (Okay, he really didn't make me sign anything ... but I did have to verbalize that I was of sound mind when we made the decision to take the path less traveled.)
I think from that point on I couldn't get the silly grin off of my face. Much of the snow we were running/hopping/skiing/sliding in came to my mid-thighs. Hence I biffed it (is that a real word?) on NUMEROUS occasions!!! The powder was so soft that the falling just added to the fun. Not hurt, not even embarrassed ... just loving it all!
Final score for falls:
Teena 5, Fly 1. I TOTALLY WIN!!!!
Also, I ate snow for the first time since grade school, and for the first time got a close look at deer droppings. Yes, I have lived a sheltered life. :)
Winterland's Playground > treadmill ... BY FAR!!!!!! :) :) :)
Thanks Fly! :) |

Solid effort! :)
The first bit I was running in the 8:20s for the first 3/4 of every mile and then running the last 1/4 of each mile at 7:30. I felt strong and so started picking up the pace at mile 10. At mile 14 I took a one minute break and calculated how fast I would have to run to get my AP under 8:00. Pushed hard and did it. I am very pleased with this run. (Must have been the Pier 49 pizza I had for lunch with Ry.) :) :) :)
Tomorrow is extremely busy, so I had to get in my longer run today. Worked out wonderfully. :) |

Trail runnin' with Fly! :) :) :)
City Creek and BST.
Funny thing: It's about half way into our run and I feel like we are super high up. I look over and see this one area that goes even higher ... I'm talking straight up. It looks formidable!!! I say to Fly, "Hey, how far do you think it is to the top of that? Do you think it is a mile?" He says, "Nah." I say, "It's got to be at least half a mile." He says, "Nah." I say,"One third of a mile for sure." He says, "Maybe." I say, "Let's find out." So ... off we go.
Upon arriving at the top (it was killer steep and I am totally out of breath) I ask, "So ... how far was it?" Fly looks at his watch and replies, "Almost one tenth of a mile!!!!!!!" HOLY CRAP ... I really really really STINK at guesstimating distances!!!!! :) :) :)
(There was this really cool rock altar of some sort with Tibetian prayer flags at the top though. Score!!)
Thanks again, Fly! :) |

Solid effort of hillwork today! :)
Ran Julie G's Boston hill training plan (yeah, I know I am not running Boston this year, but I thought what the heck).
Followed the schedule to the T (incline and pace), minus the middle miles. Just went from one hill segment to the next. I thought about calling it good after the first segment (which put me at roughly 8 miles) but then a couple of * FIRE FIGHTERS * began weight training right in perfect view. I thought, DANG, no way I am leaving now!!! Good choice! :) :) :) Finished the second segment of hills then took a few minutes to get a drink and walk around the gym for a bit before hitting a final .5 at my max. Quality run today! :)

Incredible Day!!!!
Slept in.
When I woke up I asked my oldest daughter if she would run with me. She was too tired to get up, but my two youngest girls said they wanted to run. After we finished running one of my boys wanted to run. When that was over my oldest decided she wanted to run after all. Only one of my boys did not want to run outside today, he did end up doing 1 mile on the treadmill though. I was SO SO SO impressed with all of my kids. I am the luckiest mom in the world! :)
5K with Sophia (8) and Livvy (7). High 11s, but no stopping -- I knew Sophia could run this distance, but Livvy completely surprised me! :)
5K with Oliver (7). High 10s and low 11s. Once again, I was completely surprised. I thought we would run 1 to 2 miles, but he insisted that we matched his sisters' distances. :)
3.5 miles with Rylee (13). AP 9:19. She wanted to run to Nana and Papa's and then have Papa drive us home. However, Papa was not there and so I ended up running home and then driving back to get her. She did awesome. I always wonder what she could do if she trained. This is the first run she has run for a LONG time!!!
3.5 miles by myself. AP 7:17. Ran as hard as I could. Felt tired but not horrible. Was happy to stop for a couple lights. :)

Wasn't able to run until this evening. Was tired and hungry so cut it short.

Tightness in right biceps femoris and right lateral rotators. This usually happens when my right hip is rotated upward. Did exercises to adjust it, still feels a bit out of place. Had Ry work on it for a bit. If I can't get it where it needs to be by Monday I will call Matt and have him realign it. :)
2010 has been a FANTASTIC year. Last year I ran a little over 1300 miles. This year I had 740 crosstraining miles and 2112 running miles. For me this is huge!!! I am very very very happy about it! :) :) :)
