I ran my first real speed workout in probably six months. That's sad that it's been so long.  But I've been a wimp and run mostly indoors, and you can't really get a speed workout on the treadmill, though you can get good tempo workouts.

Anyway, it was a really enjoyable workout. I charted out a loop around my neighborhood where I don't have to worry about traffic, and it's exactly a 1/2 mile. It has a fairly decent uphill and downhill to it, but it's not grueling.

My times were 3:10, 3:00, 3:00, 2:54. I was really pleased to get below 3:00. Can't wait till I run on the track and see how my speed has improved and can keep improving.

Nice job. I'm hoping that things will start to slow down for me some so I can get back to some better training.

Thanks. Congrats on getting a good 10 miler in the other day. And that's great you are still planning to the UV marathon. I've toyed with running it, but it's crunch time for school, so I probably won't be able to train enough miles to be ready for it.

Yeah I'm just going to help pace Bill Campbell and Mike Warren at Utah Valley. I don't think I'll be in very great race shape but hopefully fast enough to help them out.

Nice workout. Which roads did your course take? Seems like there are a lot of short but steep hills around there.

I live in a development with a bunch of townhomes. So I just did a loop around the townhomes. It's not too steep but is definitely a noticeable incline. We have a big hill close to us that I should try sometime for hill repeats. It's the one at 9400 South and 1300 East if you know where that is.

Yes I know where that is. That is a good hill on 94th. I grew up there where my parents live from the time I was 5 and spent many hours catching snakes and lizards down where you live when it was mostly all fields. We'll have to try and get out on a run one of these times when I'm down visiting the folks.

Oh yeah, I totally forgot that you grew up down here. Not sure if you know John Jackson. He said he also used to spend a lot of time down here in the sand pit.

And yes, that would be great to go running sometime. The weather's getting nice now.

I know John Jackson [although I probably haven't seen him in over 30 years]. His older brother and I were good friends. He lived 4 doors down. I also spent a lot of time riding motor cycles in the sand pit.

where have you been lately? probably tied down at work? any news from USU?

From Steve Piccolo on Mon, Apr 12, 2010 at 23:20:30 from 66.60.122.240

Yeah, I've been swamped with school. I'm trying to get a journal article out and get my dissertation moving along. I have run a little and will run later tonight, though.

From Steve Piccolo on Mon, Apr 12, 2010 at 23:24:00 from 66.60.122.240

Oh, and nothing from USU. I think they were looking for someone who already has a grant funded.
