shamrock shuffle in Smithfield (course here), another 5K tune up. Paul wrote a nice description of the race and course, if you are interested refer to his report with the details. The initial uphill actually didn't feel that bad as i took it really easy, hitting the top at a maybe 6:30 pace. then I let it rip over the downhill, then struggled a bit on the last mile gradual uphill back to Skyview.  Didn't bother to keep track of splits. 18:35 overall, that is three seconds faster than freeze your buns 5K on a tougher course. good enough for now anyway. very well put on race, cache sun and snow do a great job. I am running all their races this year.

ran a cooldown with Paul and Dave just in time for the big storm out of the north. I didn't complain too much at the time but i felt like crap. very cold and my right calf hurt.

Dropped Dave at skyview and tortured myself with another 1.5 in the storm to get to 13.5. wanted 14-15 but wasn't in the mood.

Dave taught me how to program my garmin to take automatic mile splits. I thought I had to do it manually. I guess I should read the manual sometime. maybe I can find out how to get the little running buddy to work if I play enough with this thing.

nice race, scott. sorry i ditched out; numerous things got in the way this morning. sounds like it was fun though. way to run out in that crazy snow-wind-mix-fun.

Nice race Scott! Good time for that tough course. Getting better with every race. Too bad you didn't get any hardware. Better run faster next time.

I agree with Cody. If you want some hardware, you need to beat Paul.

Nice job on a fast 5K and a bunch of miles!

Great race! I hope someday to run as fast as you. Maybe when I'm 48 and you're 63.

From Dave S on Sat, Mar 13, 2010 at 20:32:33 from 4.254.226.28

Congrats on another good race! I hope I can run as fast as you someday too but I guess I won't have age in my favor like Steve. At least I will escape you in the age group for a couple of years.

I didn't envy you heading out for those last 2 miles in the blizzard.

thanks guys! Cody and Allie, sorry you couldn't make it today, hope to see you at the next one. was nice to have Paul and Dave to run with after. Are you still running Riverton, Allie?

Dave- that last 1.5 was indeed no fun. the weather service said the wind was 20 mph by then with gusts to 28. brrr!!

From Paul on Sat, Mar 13, 2010 at 22:47:27 from 174.23.180.177

Good race. Sorry I kept you around so that you had to run in a blizzard.

From Scott Ensign on Sat, Mar 13, 2010 at 23:55:26 from 65.100.253.126

Paul, I actually had a really great time running in that blizzard, I love weather like that deep down inside. and I always enjoy the few chances I get to run with fellow bloggers, wish I could join you guys more often. great way to spend the morning, so thanks!!
