I'm trying to decide whether or not to run first dam run this year. On the one hand, I like the course and the people. On the flipside, Cache sun and snow is now charging 25 dollars for this race-either the 5 or 10K- or 20 dollars without a shirt. This seems like a lot of money for a pretty low key 5 and 10K requiring no aid stations, transportation, or other frills, and where they only give a single trophy to the first male and female finishers (just cheap ribbons to the rest). TOU half is only ten dollars more, including buses to the start, aid stations, three deep trophies for all age groups, cash awards, etc. So why are they charging 25 bucks for a low key 5 or 10K? In contrast I can run Smithfield's turkey trot 10K for 8 dollars a week later or tremontons 5K for one dollar. Looks like a better deal for the budget minded runner these days. I wonder if others think this race is worth 25 dollars?

Sounds like someone trying to earn a buck. I wouldn't support it.

From Cody on Mon, Nov 01, 2010 at 14:25:44 from 69.9.58.17

I think I will pass as well

From allie on Wed, Nov 03, 2010 at 17:27:45 from 161.38.218.168

i would pass.

tremonton!

From Nan on Thu, Nov 04, 2010 at 12:48:43 from 24.8.144.22

One dollar is unheard of. I'd go for that one.

We are hoping to come to Utah for Thanksgiving but will probably stay close to my Mom's house and run the Farmington 5k or Bountiful 10k. Haven't decided yet.

From allie on Thu, Nov 04, 2010 at 14:07:22 from 161.38.218.168

nan - [cough]cottonwood heights[cough]. i know it would be a bit out of the way, but i had to at least suggest it.

Ironically, there is a chance I will be doing that one as well (cottonwood heights). Maybe 10%. It goes right by my parents house.

From Nan on Thu, Nov 04, 2010 at 15:27:04 from 24.8.144.22

Allie-I would actually consider that...especially if you promised to run 5:55 pace stride for stride with Aaron and me to finally get that PR you need and deserve. Aaron would love to run sub 18:30 too.

OR you could consider coming to Farmington and doing the Turkey Leg 5K with us? It has a cooler website.

Sorry to hijack your blog, Scott. :)

more hijakcing...

the cottonwood heights race runs right by my grandparents' house (maybe they are cody's parents' neighbors?) if i can convince anyone in my family to do it with me (highly unlikely), then i will be running CH. if not, i would love to come run in farmington. as we know, cooler website = cooler shirt and cooler post-race food.

From Scott Ensign on Thu, Nov 04, 2010 at 15:47:33 from 129.123.3.31

Nan, Allie and Cody:

I will probably come run CH with you guys if you do it, I am always up for a party. Allie and I will already have broken the 18 minute 5K by then (November 13 in Tremonton) but that will allow us to shoot for 17:30 at CH. Aaron and Allie can drag me along if needed... I turned 49 last month you know...

From Scott Ensign on Thu, Nov 04, 2010 at 15:48:50 from 129.123.3.31

oh and Cody, any chance you want to do tremonton with us?

From Burt on Thu, Nov 04, 2010 at 16:04:15 from 206.19.214.144

Maybe they're the same grandparents and you guys are COUSINS!!

From Cody on Thu, Nov 04, 2010 at 16:10:00 from 69.9.58.17

Note: CH is not an easy course. Its much harder than First Dam Run (maybe 30+ seconds?). Plus, it has taken off the last few years and is probably pushing 1K entrants this year. That means good competition, but chaotic. Post race food is bad. Not really a glowing recommendation. However, I like it cause it is convenient for me at thanksgiving and became a bit of a tradition.

Scott: I would do tremonton if I am in town and not running up a mountain.

From Cody on Thu, Nov 04, 2010 at 16:11:16 from 69.9.58.17

Allie - what are their names?

From allie on Thu, Nov 04, 2010 at 16:15:12 from 161.38.218.168

cody - bill and elaine burrows. they live on walnut way.

and i will agree, it is not an easy course -- lots of rollers.

nan - good competition may be there, as christina gingras is from CH and usually runs it. she won st. geoerge in '08.

I know the burrows. they might still remember me too. I lived on chestnut circle. Just a few streets away.

From Scott Ensign on Thu, Nov 04, 2010 at 17:07:17 from 129.123.3.31

this is probably the most action my little blog has ever received.....

CH looks kind of scary to me now. I will focus on Tremonton for now. maybe I will follow Paul and "retire forever from running" after that.

From Nan on Thu, Nov 04, 2010 at 18:35:27 from 24.8.144.22

Hahaha. I just got back home and saw this large string. Awesome.

Well, Aaron and I are up for CH if that's what everyone else is doing. But I am rather excited about the prospect of getting a turkey leg technical tee at the Farmington race. And the Farmington course may be flatter? Who knows. Either way, it will be a fun T-day tempo for me. Just want to get my legs moving fast again sometime before December.

Scott-Once a runner, always a runner. Retiring is not an option. Sorry.

From Scott Ensign on Thu, Nov 04, 2010 at 18:48:26 from 70.58.47.122

Nan, actually if I did something on thanksgiving Farmington would be better for me, as it is not too far away. I probably won't do CH as it is farther and Cody has scared me off with the hills, bad food and disorganization comments (he likes do do that).

Hey- do you think Darren would let me have a running republic race singlet? If I paid him for it (and it wasnt too expensive)? if so let me know and you could bring it in November! I am kind of an honorary RR club member, right?

From Jon on Thu, Nov 04, 2010 at 19:41:51 from 98.71.130.239

Tremonton.
