No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.

6:00pm Deuteronomy 28 - Joshua 7

Sunny and 60°, I have rested my legs for 3 days and even slept for about 15 hours last night/today to catch up after a long weekend of camping. Why wouldn't I be ready for a great run? The first 2 miles did feel great, after that it felt like I was pulling a car behind me! My heart was pounding at 5k pace and my legs were barely moving at marathon pace. Something is horribly wrong with this picture. I tried to hang in there and find a groove, but it just wasn't happening so I skipped my last trip up Farwest hill and cut 3 miles off the route. I'm kind of glad I finished early because a friend had stopped by and was still waiting for me when I got home, but I'm still concerned about this bummer of a run. I hope I feel better in the morning.

5:00am Joshua 8 - Judges 2

4 hours of sleep after the most stressful day ever and I'm almost back to normal. Raising teens is the hardest most thankless job ever. I wish I could just trade places with my son so he wouldn't have to suffer through this stage of life.

There is a friendly competition over on facebook where soldiers' families are logging their running and walking miles in a "virtual walk to Afghanistan" to show support for my brother-in-law's Army unit over there. Our family's team is getting a royal beatdown and needs your help. If you are on facebook please join Team Carnahan and post your weekly total each Saturday. No goofy apps to install or anything, just join the group and post your miles and maybe an encouraging word as a comment to let Stephen know we're thinking about him. Thanks for your support.
