Total Distance
2.84

9:30am

Same short course as last year's Army Strong Veteran's 5k. Last year I had 2.86 on the garmin, this year it was still short at 2.84. They did mention something about the short distance after the race this time. The announcer said they will probably rename the event though rather than changing the course to make it longer. It seems weird to me that they would do chip timing and not make sure the course was actually 5k. What's that they say about the "Army way"? :) It was still a fun race and it was FREE so what's not to like about that? :)

Technically, this is another PR for me too. I took 58 seconds off last year's time on this same course! My next race is 4 on the 4th in Steilacoom. It will be my first 4 miler so the pressure is off for a PR at that one :)

Distance    Split pace
1.00    6:09 - flat with a short stretch of paved pathway and some grass.
2.00    6:23 - very steep up-hill on trails
2.84    6:09 - flat around the lake on some pavement and back to the grass.

Wow - very strong 2nd mile on the hills! Congrats on the PR. :)

Nice PR and 2nd place! You are just full of PRs this year. 4 on the 4th you say? If I can walk by then I may have to show up for that!

From rAtTLeTrAp on Sun, Jun 27, 2010 at 16:07:13 from 76.121.76.165

Nicole - If you can walk? I hope you're just sore and not injured. Be sure to say hello if you come to 4 on the 4th I'll be easy to spot in my flames.

Sno - that hill was brutal, but it felt great passing everybody on the way up. Especially the ones that were snickering about my running gear at the start :) You should come to 4 on the 4th too. The course runs along Lafayette to Sunnyside Beach and back. Great view of the Sound and the Olympics the whole way.

WOW!!! That is a killer pace. Congrats on the 2.84 mile PR. :) :) :)

Seriously ... you are so stinkin' fast! :)

From Burt on Sun, Jun 27, 2010 at 22:40:16 from 68.225.214.248

Wait, last year it was 2 hundredths longer.

Nice job on finishing 1 minute faster. You're like a fine wine that gets faster with age. Or something like that.

Awesome steep hill mile!

What was wrong with your gear? Or rather what was so funny about it?

From baldnspicy on Mon, Jun 28, 2010 at 09:50:49 from 72.77.112.14

Way to go, RT!!

I will be trapped in Tacoma all weekend except a few hours in PM on the 4th. It's a good thing, actually. A rare opportunity. The American Harp Society conference, which only takes place every 2 years and meets all over the country, is going to be *here*. Anyway, I'll take you up on one of your invitations one of these days!

Way to show them what those flames really mean!

From rAtTLeTrAp on Mon, Jun 28, 2010 at 11:39:34 from 75.230.251.106

Teena - I don't think I'm all that fast, but I'm getting there one PR at a time :) Thanks!

Burt - I think I just took the corners wider last time because of the mud. I think I'm more like gunpowder than wine. The older I get, the more unstable and unpredictable I am :)

April - Even I have to admit that flame outfit is over the top.

Wes - Flame on dude!

Sno - yeah right, sure you will :)

You don't think you are all that fast????? wHaTeVeR!!!! You so are.

Nice job on the PR, that is a chunk of time to take off from last year. I wish you had done a 4 miler before, because you would certainly be getting another PR.

From rAtTLeTrAp on Tue, Jun 29, 2010 at 15:35:00 from 76.121.76.165

What do you mean would be? I'm guaranteed a PR on the 4th :)

I'm shooting for a sub 25.

From Kelli on Tue, Jun 29, 2010 at 15:55:46 from 71.219.99.30

Good point! And GOOD LUCK, you will do it, no question.

From rAtTLeTrAp on Wed, Jun 30, 2010 at 10:00:16 from 76.121.76.165

oh, I just realized that's a 6:15 pace... I'm going to have to run harder than I thought.
