I only had an hour to run and shower at the Y while Kym was at the doc today. I decided to run 5 under 7 which was pretty easy on the cushy, padded, indoor track. It was nice and warm inside too :)

I felt like I was dressed for battle this morning wearing sweats, 2 shirts, beanie, gloves w/hotties, garmin w/hrm, and mp3 player. I did a big 17 mile loop around Lakewood and got farther away from home than I've been on foot since May. It was cold and very windy, but the way I was dressed, it never really bothered me. The first 15 went by pretty easy, the last two required a little more work, but they weren't too terrible. I probably should have drank more before I left, when I got home I chugged two 32oz bottles of sportdrink and was still a little thirsty. That couldn't be good.Oh, I also listened to chapters 9-45 of Isaiah. Good stuff :)

Oooh it warmed up to 11°. I'm glad I didn't plan a really long run for this weekend, I don't think I could handle these temps for more than an hour. I'm a generating a lot of laundy with all these layers. I'm sure Kym is glad I'm not running 6 days a week. I'm hoping every other day and a long run every other weekend will be sufficient to maintain where I'm at until a couple months before the Green River Marathon. I feel like I'm up to the BQ task now, but I don't want to pay big $ to run in a winter marathon since Boston reg. is closed for '10.

I planned on running with a friend today so I left my MP3 player at home and ended up running by myself with no audio bible ( I did finish Isaiah on Friday's run). I changed my regular route and ran lots of hills today. I think I could have ran them all faster, but I started out pretty easy and picked up the pace or effort depending on the grade just a little with each mile. Mile 8 wasn't really that steep, but I was really regretting the quart of eggnogg I drank last night. I don't think I'll do that again. The rest of the run was really good. Next weekend I think I'll do another long one between 15 and 20.

41° and I dreessed for 11°! I had to shed the hotties at mile 3, the gloves at mile 4, the beanie at 5. I was sweating so much I think I lost about a pound per mile.

Lots of energy left towards the end so I picked up the pace a little more than usual for the last couple miles. I'm looking forward to my long run on Sunday!

It's been a year now since I joined the blog and aside from making some new friends I have set new PRs for every distance up to 21 miles and I know a Boston qualifying marathon is just around the corner! Thank you Sasha for creating this site and thanks to all the fastrunning bloggers for your support and encouragement!

Late start today. I ate a banana about 10 minutes before I left and it stayed down until mile 9. After that I wasn't feeling good about doing many more miles. I cut my planned route for 17 short and shaved off a few miles. Now that I'm home I kind of wish I had toughed it out and gone the distance.

I didn't realize how cold it was and left under-dressed for an 8 miler. I wasn't running fast enough to keep warm and most of my fingers went numb during miles 6 and 7. The last mile was all about a hot shower!

Merry Christmas!
Jake was up before sunrise this morning anxious to open gifts. After our little gift exchange, Kym and Jake both drifted back to sleep on the couches and I went out for a run. We didn't get any snow, but it was 28° and everything was covered with frost. It was a beautiful and peaceful morning. I listened to the book of Matthew while I ran and really enjoyed the time alone. The rest of my day will be filled with family get-togethers and LOTS of food.

31° and lots of ice today. I planned on doing 12 miles and felt so good toward the end that I decided to stretch it out to 15. I tried to focus on slowing my pace for the long haul, but still needed to keep up a decent level of effort to stay warm. I'm really happy with both my time and how I felt at the end of this run. I could have easily done 20 at the same pace if I had more time.

Last run of the year. These last four months have shown steady improvement with very little mileage. We'll see how long it takes at this rate before I level out. I don't want to ramp up my mileage too soon before the marathon this time.
