2:00pm

Perfect day for a race! 33°, sunshine, no wind, and lots of friends. John ran it with 2 of his nephews(one of them took first place overall with 15:07), Paul and Melody ran it with their 2 kids again and Preston ran it with his 8 year-old daughter Ruby(her first 5k). I think Kym and I were the only family not to bring home a turkey this year, but I did break 19! After the race we all went to Black Bear for coffee and frozen yogurt. What a fun day!

The first mile felt both fast and easy; that's new! I was afraid to look at my watch for a while and finally checked it at about 3/4 and saw 5:55! That was encouraging news! I tried to just keep a steady effort after that. The second mile has a good sized hill right in the middle that slowed me down a lot. I gave it everything I had going up and got so winded that I couldn't really speed up going down the other side. The third mile felt very long... still recovering from the hill, I didn't notice the marker or hear my watch beep at 3. When I turned the corner to leave the path around the lake I thought the finish was still pretty far away, but it was a lot closer than I usually get before the final kick. It was the same course as last year so I should have known better. I cranked it up as fast as I could and was still there before I hit puke-pace. I think this is a lot tougher course than the Resolution Run 5k so I'll be shooting for a big PR to start my year.

Wait, that was TODAY?!! Why oh why did I not do it? For some reason I was certain this was actually on Thanksgiving so I couldn't do it. Suck! It's nice it was later in the day, I went running at 10am and it was still quite chilly!

Kam - Thanks, now I guess I need to set my sights on sub 18.

April - Never mind that first mile, check out the last .11 after 3 fast miles. I really surprised myself today :)

Nicole - Always the Sunday before Thanksgiving at 2pm and only $6.

Burt - Old guys rule!

Mark - Thanks. It was a lot of fun, except maybe the hill on mile 2.

Awesome...you surpassed my 5k pr. You've rebounded incredibly from that injury last year- keep up the great work!
