10:00am Job 39 - Psalms 71

Running in circles today. One loop around Oakbrook, one loop around Waughop Lake and one loop around Gravelly Lake. During mile 15 I was feeling really dry and stopped at the firestation to see if I could get a drink, strike one, nobody was there. Next was an espresso stand a mile farther down the road, strike two, no free water for me. Another mile down the road I stopped at Lakes high school and found a drinking fountain. By then I was so thirsty that I drank way too much and was sloshing pretty badly for the last three miles. I kept on pace and even picked it up a bit for the last two miles and felt really accomplished when I got home. I couldn't wait to hit the shower and just relax in my empty house for a while. I was met at the door by my son who had gotten himself in big trouble at school and left early without permission. What a buzz-kill!

Thanks. After this interaction with my son, I'm tempted to go back out for more :)

From Burt on Fri, Oct 28, 2011 at 18:43:26 from 68.14.209.26

Where to start? First is the Dora-like places you ran to. Where are we going? Gravelly Lake. Where are we going? Gravelly Lake. Where are we going? Gravelly Lake! Second is that I need to teach you some tricks to finding water on your runs. Third is great job on the 20 miles! And finally, about your boy. Ever heard of criss cross? Billy Crystal and Danny Devito style.

From rAtTLeTrAp on Fri, Oct 28, 2011 at 19:22:38 from 24.22.239.183

Dora-like? Are you making fun of my neighborhood? It's hardly a Dora-like world around here, or I wouldn't be so afraid to stash water bottles on my route. I don't get the crisscross reference. Isn't that where Larry and Owen agree to murder each others enemies? He's a difficult kid, but I think that's a little extreme :)

From Burt on Fri, Oct 28, 2011 at 19:27:53 from 68.14.209.26

Yep. Criss cross.

The night was sultry! lol!

Wait. Owen didn't realize that Larry wasn't serious. So let's make it clear that I'm only joking. I don't want to wake up tomorrow with a dead son and be expected to kill yours. You understand I'm just joking. Please tell me you understand. I NEED to hear those words. LOL!

You're a sick dude Burt! That's why I like you. Your son is safe :)

What was your pace like when you started running? Please tell me it was slow like me and I could speed ip if I trained better

From Steam8 on Fri, Oct 28, 2011 at 22:49:56 from 166.70.55.77

Ahahahaaa! Good thing you had a great run and a runner's high to deal with the teenager! I hope the rest of your day was okay! Wow, being a parent is tough! Best of luck Rattle! I'll put you on my prayer list! :)

From rAtTLeTrAp on Sat, Oct 29, 2011 at 01:47:17 from 24.22.239.183

April - I was running 9-10 min miles when I started. I didn't get "fast" until I joined FRB and set my sights on Boston a few years ago. I think the key to speed is consistence and base mileage just like Sasha preaches. Although at my age I still find it hard to balance getting enough running days in a row each week with staying injury-free.

Amy - Parenting adopted children is extra tough. I appreciate your prayers. FWIW, we did manage to de-escalate and had a pretty good day considering how it started :)

From april27 on Sat, Oct 29, 2011 at 07:59:52 from 74.248.203.124

Yes injury free is the key

From Steam8 on Sat, Oct 29, 2011 at 09:20:46 from 166.70.55.77

He was adopted? I think that would make it tougher during those teen years. I am glad all got worked out and the day ended up better. I am sure your great run helped you manage the damage! ha! I'll keep you in my prayers if you keep me in yours! ;)

From rAtTLeTrAp on Sat, Oct 29, 2011 at 15:18:21 from 174.253.196.97

The teen years are murder(that's just a figure of speech Burt). Even with Jakes extra challenges, he's easier to deal with than my daughters were at that age :)
