Moses Lake 5:30am Malachi 4 - Matthew 15

10 miles at a semi-easy pace, 8 of it on gravel/dirt road, last 3 at MP. I saw what I think was a drug raid in progress during the last mile. Helmets, body armor, assault rifles, the whole bit. Two cops were standing by an unmarked van as I ran down the sidewalk right in front of the house before I realized they had the place surrounded. There were 2 or 3 more on each side of the house and in the neighbor's yards. I can't believe they let me get that close. They should have directed me to stop or at least cross the street. Needless to say, I did not slow down to talk to them about it.

I'm not feeling super great about Sunday. This is the most I've ever tapered before a race and I feel like I'm "losing it" rather than getting rested. I don't know if I should just rest for the next 2 days like usual or maybe run a few miles to put my mind at ease.

I say rest. It will do you some good.

From Dan on Thu, Jul 21, 2011 at 23:10:17 from 24.209.83.20

Rest is good, FWIW- tapers always mess with my mind, but on race day it all paid off. You are more than ready, you know it too.

From allie on Thu, Jul 21, 2011 at 23:17:32 from 24.10.191.18

you are not losing it. tapering is hard, but it's good. and you are good. rest well and go for it on sunday!

From Laputka on Fri, Jul 22, 2011 at 00:28:41 from 98.202.142.68

Looks like a nice taper, high of 74 then 42 and now 22 so far this week. I agree with the others, rest, but here's a little mind trick you might want to play on yourself. Suit up, lace up, go out for a run but only run half mile or mile or so, stop, walk, maybe stretch a little, run another quarter or half mile, walk, look around, think about your race. If you have access to a track maybe you could run a few 200's at your goal pace. When you're done, It feels like you've done something productive. It puts your mind at ease even though you haven't really done anything.

Rest brother, maybe run fast down a hill just for some fast turnover practice ... but rest! Your legs will be juiced with adrenalin when the race starts ... certainly by Mile 2 or 3, when you need them to be! Rest will help the last 6 miles, the only unknown, you are not losing any fitness with your taper! Good Luck!!!

Back to the Drug Raid.... did you run by in your black furry viking hat? If you did, they probably thought you were there to make a pick up.

From april27 on Fri, Jul 22, 2011 at 17:18:07 from 99.188.251.180

don't most people feel like this when they taper? rest! thne you can kick race butt!

From Burt on Fri, Jul 22, 2011 at 17:37:11 from 206.19.214.144

Back to the drug raid. I can just picture you running through there, turning your head from side to side as you realize your surrounded by SWAT, start getting up on your tippy toes, eyes widening. Beard twitching. Man that's good stuff.

From Burt on Fri, Jul 22, 2011 at 17:37:28 from 206.19.214.144

Sorry, I was living inside my mind for a minute.

and Derunzo's.

From DLTheo on Fri, Jul 22, 2011 at 17:57:08 from 155.130.107.42

my legs usually start to ache a few days before the big race when I taper. I usually take the Friday off, and then on Saturday run an easy 4-5 miles, but for 1 mile speed up to marathon pace. Just enough to remind my legs what they will have to do the next day. Then go home and watch Rocky and Rocky II.

I always say to run just a little bit! But, whatever you do, no worries. Everyone feels like that race week---EVERYONE!

Glad they did not tackle you while you looked like you were running off with the drugs! Crazy. That is odd they let you get that close, maybe it was over???

From Kelli on Fri, Jul 22, 2011 at 19:04:45 from 71.219.99.3

OH, wait, I forgot something!!!

GOOD LUCK!! You will do great, I am looking forward to reading all about it. So exciting.

Thanks for the encouragement everybody. I spent most of the night getting a stranded biker to the hospital(suffering from heatstroke and pneumonia), repairing his broken down bike near George and delivering it to him in Ellensburg. After 4 hours sleep, I wake up with the runz. Nice, huh? So much for my plans to be rested and ready. Here we go...

From allie on Sun, Jul 24, 2011 at 09:07:22 from 24.10.191.18

the runz are normal before a race :)

you'll do great. sounds like you had a long night, but i am sure that biker is very grateful. you sacrificed your time and sleep to help someone in need -- i think you'll be rewarded for your noble efforts. have a great race.

From april27 on Sun, Jul 24, 2011 at 10:32:25 from 99.188.251.180

I think you will have good karma going into your race!

From DLTheo on Sun, Jul 24, 2011 at 22:22:48 from 76.28.161.119

Waiting for the results.....

I was just thinking the same thing.

From rAtTLeTrAp on Sun, Jul 24, 2011 at 23:49:28 from 24.22.239.183

Race report up. I might add some more details after I get some sleep :)
