No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.

Ouch! I think I cracked a rib or something doing some construction work at my daughter's house on Friday. I get a sharp pain if I twist my torso or cough. It's a good thing I'm over that cold. Running was uncomfortable today, like having a side stitch that won't go away. I'm glad I'm supposed to be tapering anyway. Praying it will get better instead of worse over the next two weeks.

I'm more worried about your Warrior Dash, be careful on that one. I really want to see you get that 3:05.

Possible cracked rib, tapering ... last 3 miles of a double digit run sub 7 ... you are an animal! Hope that rib heals quick, you training has been stellar!

Laputka - I just need to keep up with my oldest daughter who isn't a runner and will be wearing a wedding dress(It's her 1st anniversary on raceday). I don't think she's ever run 3 miles so it should be a walk in the park(or mud actually). It's all about quality time with her and of course cold beer, smoked turkey legs and that sweet fuzzy warrior helmet at the finish!

JG - I think the rib is definitely cracked. I might go to the doc on the 25th. Thanks for the props. This has been a very weird training cycle. I've tried to run less days and just give more effort when I'm out there so it doesn't impact the family life so much. I've actually increased my mileage while decreasing run days. Don't try this at home kids, it probably isn't very healthy or smart.

It may also be torn ligaments between the ribs. That happened to me when I fell down the stairs. Not much they can do except prescribe a pain killer.

Burt - I wonder how some vicodin would affect my running? ...on second thought, maybe that's not a very good idea. I already fall down too much with a clear head.

Wow man, your are really racking up the miles total this year and a cracked/broken rib doesn't seem to be stopping you......run smart, finish strong, pay attention to the small stuff before it turns into big stuff!!!

From allie on Mon, Jul 11, 2011 at 13:50:58 from 161.38.218.168

sorry about your rib. beware of sneezing...

From rAtTLeTrAp on Mon, Jul 11, 2011 at 15:50:45 from 24.18.125.122

Tom - I'm already stuck in deep stuff! I want to see this thing through. Pain is only temporary, right?

Allie - yeah, sneezing is not fun either, but the thai lime & chili cashews were totally worth it.
