I got a cortisone shot in my foot yesterday (ouch). Now it hurts from getting the shot, but the pain that I got it for is gone. If the nerve pain comes back the doc recommended surgery :( Speaking of surgery, my shoulder was acting up for the first time during a run today. That has me a little worried and if it keeps up I may have to get it fixed before Boston too. I have some torn cartilage in my shoulder that needs repair, but until now running hasn't aggrivated it at all. I'm worried that the recovery time or any complications from the surgery might screw up my training for Boston and I'd rather wait If I can. Oh yeah, my run... It was great! You should have been there. Perfect morning, around 50°, no wind, no rain, no traffic, just great.

DISGUSTING! Are those forks? Is someone going to eat the neuroma?

Kind of makes you wonder what's in that bowl of Pho huh?

I was planning on having sushi for lunch, now I'm not so sure.

Sorry your shoulder is acting up on you. Man, Boston is still a ways off though, I may consider the surgery now if I were you. I'm going in for my first doc's appointment today to see about shoulder surgery myself.

From rAtTLeTrAp on Fri, Oct 08, 2010 at 13:53:16 from 76.121.76.165

Nan - If it keeps up I probably will go for it. I just don't want to over-react because of one bad day. I really do want to put it off and I keep telling myself if I can tough it out, it may even heal up on it's own. I know that's probably wishful thinking though and if I do decide to get it done I need to do it right away :(

From baldnspicy on Fri, Oct 08, 2010 at 14:01:37 from 72.77.68.219

Glad you were able to run OK! I hear the surgery isn't that bad and recovery is pretty quick, but if it's done wrong can cause more problems than you had before. I'm surprised he suggested surgery so quickly, but every doc is different, I guess.

I'm doing my own Google research on my options since mine keep coming back. I really would prefer to find a permanent solution rather than resolve myself to quarterly cortizone shots. I know they can "kill" the nerve with a series of alcohol based injections, but I don't know what you gain/lose by killing it verses cutting it out. Plus, does this mean I won't feel anything in those toes?

Hope it's feeling better and that you figure out what to do with the shoulder.

From rAtTLeTrAp on Fri, Oct 08, 2010 at 14:22:23 from 72.102.40.65

bns - Either way, if you kill or remove the nueroma it will cause numbness between the 3rd and 4th toes. That is, if yours is in the same spot as mine. Killing that nerve with injections is supposed to be the same recovery-wise as the cortisone shots. I can't imagine running or even walking for quite a while after getting cut open like that disgusting pic.

Okay, I was NOT prepared for that nasty picture!!!! Yuck. I hope the shot will do the job.

Did you do anything else that might have just aggravated your shoulder temporarily? I hope that is the case, shoulder surgery is NO FUN, especially for the wife.

OK, I even got sick of looking at that pic when I open my blog. Hopefully my foot will never have to look like that.

I must have missed the disgusting picture b/c all I see is a diagram of a foot. I sort of feel left out of all the disgustingness!

From Kelli on Sun, Oct 10, 2010 at 18:50:58 from 71.219.65.246

OH, you got rid of it. Now I can eat and read your blog at the same time. I SO hope your foot never needs that. OUCH.
