Short-Term Running Goals:

Okay, so for 2013 I am going to have FUN! Not that running isn't always fun, but I had a wonderful breakthrough year last year and I want to play this year :) AND get faster! So, my first goal I'm going to put out there is my yearly mileage goal.
It is 2,186 miles from my driveway to my sister (QP's) driveway! I want to spend this year on a virtual trek cross country running those miles. So, that is how far I will run in 2013...from my house to QPs. It will take all year and yes, this is measured on Hwys so it isn't really exactly how I COULD run it, but good enough. 43 miles/week...totally doable, and a fun goal to track how far I've traveled as I go along. Who knows...maybe I'll even run PAST her house :)

I will do more trail runs, Boston, Pacing duties, another Half IM and some other tris. I'm excited for this next year and look forward to having fun with all of you out on the roads, and trails! Maybe bag a few peaks this year too!!

Long-Term Running Goals:

Big Dreams: 5K in 20:2X; 10K in 39:XX; Half in 1:29:XX; Full in 3:15:XX; complete the Rim2Rim2Rim run and not die; Comrades; Iron(wo)Man.

Run for the rest of my life!

Personal:

4 children: twelve, eight, five and baby Fartlek - 2 1/2. Wonderful supportive husband that lets me drag him and the family all over for race after race!

Finished 13 marathons and LOVE running that distance! I'm definitely hooked to the marathon monster and hope to constantly improve my endurance, speed and stay injury free!

I've also found a love of trail running! I hope to keep improving on this front.

After being injured with a broken foot at the first of 2012 I found a tri group and started training with them and am now loving tris! The half IM was harder than I'd ever imagined...and am ready to do it again. I'll earn my bike butt and someday have enough time to train for a full IM.

Woke up determined to run with the BBK's - snow can't be THAT bad in April! On my way driving to the meeting location I was slipping and sliding all over the place. I couldn't stop and I couldn't turn. After only 1.5 miles from home I got scared enough (see...I am a pansy) that I changed plans and decided the gym and the TM would be fine. I was hot, overdressed, sick of the stupid TM and not happy to be alone again; however, I felt a LOT better than going out to group. Don't know why, but for some reason I just wasn't supposed to go this morning - whether it was driving there or if I would've slipped in the snow as I was running (NO yak trax for me), but I just wasn't supposed to go.

6 miles on the TM all @ 9:50, but I'd play with the elevation each mile. Anything from 0-2%, just to keep me entertained.

I walked about 5 minutes to cool down on an 8% grade @ 3mph, then stretched and came home. It was nearly as bad driving home as it was driving there; however, at least the main roads had been plowed, it wasn't until you hit the po-dunk streets heading into my 'hood that it got bad - slip sliding around, again.

No school for kiddos today, but I'll head off to yoga then come home to work all day *sigh* then drive downtown for General Auxiliary training for Primary tonight, long day. 'Rest' day tomorrow to prepare for the 10 miler on Saturday - please don't snow again, please oh please oh please!!

Easy day today, I need to save some for the 10 tomorrow. How sad...I have to rest to do a simple ten miles *sigh*

got to the gym early (still have to be home by 10 and the day care opens at 8:30, so if I want to sleep in at all I BARELY get 80-90 minutes) and wanted to do the bike, but for some stupid reason they took all the upright bikes and now we only have recumbent bikes - so I opted for the TM and a hill climb.

75 minutes on a 10% grade @ 3mph. Total of 3.75 miles and 750 calories.

Now to figure out how to get the run in tomorrow and not fight weather....

Scared of the snow and rain I decided to hit spin class this morning, and put off the run. Took it easy on class, no big pushes, just enough to wake my legs up :) Plus, it was the 90 minute class that is only once a month - can't pass that up!

Did the run in the nice sun and a cool breeze in the afternoon. We had a family dinner in West Jordan so I ran from Butterfield Canyon (almost home) down Bacchus to New Bingham Hwy, down to Copper Hills HS then north on Grizzly Way to my in-laws.

If you've ever driven past the dump on Bacchus you know that it is in the bottom of a HUGE dip - the hill coming out of the dump was a killler! I didn't care the pace, the goal was just to NOT walk. It consequently made that mile very slow :)

Had a water stop at mile 5, and an EMERGENCY potty stop at Arctic Circle - the first building I encountered - at mile 7. One nice thing about running on Bacchus is that I love the looks you get from drivers...you are out in the middle of NO WHERE! It's the 'where did you come from and how long are you running till you get there?' look. Helps put some energy in my step :) Bad part: NO bathrooms or anything (even bushes!) - this was a serious issue, I'm honestly feeling good about the SLC 1/2 and I know I can make the mileage now (w/out pain and killing myself) - but ONLY if I have a pair of depends on!! :)

AP: 9:16, splits: 9:02, 8:48, 9:41, 10:14 (Hill of DEATH!), 9:23, 8:57, 8:45, 9:02, 9:19, 9:26

Not to shabby! It's nice to have a downhill run to help the pace out. I honestly felt best during the 8:45 (mile 6-7) and the last 9:26 mile. Interesting to have the paces so different, but I really think it was the downhill that made the difference. I was just happy to finish and still feel good!!!

Nice easy Monday. Have to work again *sigh* so I couldn't do all I wanted at the gym, but I also wasn't willing to get up early :)

10 min walking @ 5% to get warmed up, still have some lingering in my legs from the 10 miler Saturday, not pain just regular carry over.

2 miles @ 9:50 on the TM (with a quick potty break thanks to shifting baby!)

upper body, core and squats all on the bosu ball

2 miles @ 9:40 on the TM...finished out the full 20 minutes so I got like 2.05 :)

bosu ball stuff again.

Plan is: 4,6,4,6, off, 10 for the week. I'm not going to increase my miles now - I want to just stay 20-30 each week for the next 10-12 weeks until baby is here!

BBK morning. I was honestly a little sad when I woke up and I didn't have the excuse of the snow to send me back to bed! Just wind, and I couldn't talk myself out of it :(

Garmin died after .6 miles, so I'm going off of others. I think I got a bit over 6 in, but I'll call it 6 even. As far as pace goes I'm sure I was somewhere in the neighborhood of 9:20-9:30, on some of the downhills there was a bit of a pick-up, but the uphills were blech! No idea really, just a guess :)

I'm glad I got up and out now - but it was hard this morning, I'm SO not a morning person and getting out of the habit for a few months makes it harder to get back to it now.

Off to the gym for total body class (she does GREAT resistance), then a little elliptical or bike...haven't decided yet.

***Total body was legs, legs, and more legs - glad I did the miles first! Then I did 6 mile on the recumbent bike at L4 to spin out some of that soreness that will be coming!***

Woke up tired. After a nap yesterday and 10 hours last night, I thought I'd feel better - but I was still dragging!

Went to Boot camp, which was some kick-boxing and circuits. Tons of core today, it gets harder and harder each week. I'm honestly just happy I can still move and bend!

Decided I'd only do one mile on the TM; however, thanks to amazing Kelli I had someone to talk to and before I knew it I had done three and was feeling GREAT! I'd do the 4 I had planned on from the first of the week, even though it would put my day care time over.

3 miles @ 9:50 pace and 1@ 9:30 (did it mostly @ 9:40 then sped up the last .25 and ended running an 8:30...felt GREAT!! YAY!)

I was really happy that I felt good when I was finished. I was SO exhausted after yesterday, but feel amazing today. I now am ready to take on the BBK's again tomorrow morning AND it should be warm - hallelujah!!

Restless night, weird dreams, stuffy nose...needless to say it was easy to get up this morning, although I was still tired!

Met the BBK's at a location infamous for hills, and I wasn't disappointed!  Easy warm-up for about 1.5 miles then up and over the Oquirrh Mountain Temple hill three times. So that I wasn't SO far behind as soon as I reached the last person, I'd turn and go back over. I never made it all the way to the bottom, Aaron was nice enough to 'walk' up the hill with me a couple times.

When I heard the garmin hit 3 miles I was SO impressed with myself that I had kept the overall AP UNDER a 10mm I just about jumped for joy! It's not an easy hill, and to average out under 10 just seemed like a near miracle. On review, I was actually keeping it around an 11mm on the uphills and I would've thought I was closer to a 12-13mm.

We did a couple more loops through the 'hoods and around the park, I ended with 6 even - and alone at the back :( However, this is totally expected when running with this crowd. Those that I can usually keep up with were gone today.

AP: 9:37 splits: 9:40, 9:57, 9:57, 9:41, 9:05 (whoo hoo!), 9:21.

Now I'm off to yoga - my favorite part of the week, then I'm DONE today....well, except maybe a mid-day nap if Star Wars Wii will babysit for a few minutes :)

Good rest last night...off to the gym for 'rest/recovery' day before long run tomorrow.

90 minutes of walking on the TM on 10% grade @ 3mph. Total of 4.5 miles, and some GREAT company the whole time.

All right, so here is my invitation: I want to do 10-12 on Porter Rockwell tomorrow at 7AM, is anyone interested in meeting me and shuffling along with the slow pregnant woman? I'd really enjoy some company :)

Woke up at  4 this morning...I guess my body is getting used to me waking it at obscene hours on Saturday. Luckily I fell back asleep about 20 minutes later, but I didn't feel nearly as awake when the alarm went off at 6 :(  Another night of weird pregnancy dreams - had the baby this time, 15 pounds and I was tired so I fell asleep during the delivery and had to ask the doctor if I got an epidural or not. Oh, and he looked about 8 months old and had 4 teeth :)

Dropped gatorade at the end of Porter Rockwell so that I'd have motivation to get to the end, plus I dehydrate  a lot faster now and that is one thing I can't let happen now. Was SO happy to see a crowd waiting at the beginning, plus lots of new bloggers to meet and chat with: The amazing Kathie, Coach Slick, Crazy Maynard, Sweet Leslie and Speedy Smoothie.

Started out wonderfully, and the uphill gave me a run for my money, but I kept it nice and easy and I appreciate Coach and Maynard hanging with the slow pregnant lady! I had a wonderful visit with them, as we watched the grannies fade off into the horizon. Again about mile 4.5 I was reminded that  I am a distance person - I finally started feeling good!! The trip back was downhill and much faster (which with me now still isn't saying much). I could've added a couple more, but decided I was good and would leave those last 2 mystery miles for next week.

AP: 9:35 splits: 9:51, 9:57, 9:44, 9:42, 9:28, 9:29, 9:24, 9:20, 9:46, 9:28, 9:18.

Party afterward was amazing as usual, plus Kathie showed us some great party tricks which I will now have to learn how to do :) Thanks again for everyone coming to keep me motivated and keep me company! I had a wonderful time and THIS is why I love running - good friends, good running, good food and good fun!!

What a great morning! I decided since I should be 'tapering' for SLC 1/2 I'd only do 3 miles today, and try step aerobics. I haven't done it since my stress fracture!

It was SO good! I forgot how hard that class can get. Lots of plyometrics and side to side movement as opposed to running & spinning's forward motion. Not to mention lots of sweat! :)

Hit the TM afterward for 3 miles, did the first 2 at 9:40 then bumped it up to 9:30 because I was feeling good. But it still wasn't doing it for me, so at 2.5 I would increase the mph by .1 every tenth of a mile. Then the last two I dropped it .2 each time and ended at 8:04 mm I was really feeling good, so I decided to keep going until my 30 minutes ran out, I finished at 3.2 miles (or more, it only does tenths, not hundredths). However, in aerobics we'd done .2 mile run outside so I figured I'd finish up the last .1 to round out at 3.5 for the day.

I really just felt good and then better today on the TM! Even at the 8mm I was feeling good. Days like today make me think there may be some sort of hope for me to finish under 2 hours on Saturday, but I'm trying not to put a time goal on myself, because I need to listen to my body more than push the pace.

Woke up to the pitter patter of rain on the windows (well, okay I couldn't tell if it was raining, I actually had to go downstairs and stick my hand out the back door, but it was - a little bit), so I pulled a pansy and went back to bed and skipped BBK's this morning :)

Hit the TM for some good miles! The first two I didn't realize until the very end were at 2.5% incline!! I usually (lately) have kept it at .5-1%. I thought I was going to die, and that I'd never finish 6 today - until I noticed that, then I felt pretty tough :)

2.1 TM miles @ 9:40 (with the incline higher than MY normal).

Weights: all upper body (most on the bosu ball), squats, push-ups and obliques.

2.2 TM miles 9:30, 9:10, last .2 @ 8:40ish

Weights: same stuff

2.2 TM miles 9:22, 8:57, last .2 @ 8:10ish

Weights: same stuff, last set.

I was bound and determined to do under a 9mm that last set. It was nice to actually achieve it and not feel like I was going to die :) I felt my best during mile 4. Running is still my favorite part of the day!

Another good sleep in day, but last night was full of nightmares - SCARY weird dreams. Then, in the middle of the night a box that has a fold up tent in the linen closet in the hall fell. It scared the crap out of me AND my hubby - all the kids stayed asleep, but we shot out of bed. It was nice to finally figure out it was then tent box and not someone breaking in and trying to kill us! The scary dreams were before that, so ugghh! It did get better the rest of the night/morning.

Went to Boot Camp which was a lot of kick-boxing and then circuits. We did a short .2 mile run outside, and I ran it strong enough to stay the front runner in the group - felt good.

Hit the TM afterward, and I think my legs were done. I started at a 9:40, but after about .75 I had to take it down to 10mm. It's a good thing Kelli was there, before I knew it I was at 2 miles and feeling better (especially after a short break to get my ipod on and working after she left). Felt good enough to finish up 3.3 miles to even out the miles for the day.

mile 1: 9:50 (about); mile 2: 10mm; mile 3: 9:40 - slower pace today, but again I was feeling better by the end. TIRED of the TM, but not enough to wake up early :) I am psyching myself up for early AM with BBK's tomorrow: I will, I will, I will!!

Got up for BBK's this morning *yawn* - when I went to leave my sweet little girl was in her room whimpering. She said she had felt sick all night! When do they get too old to come in your room at night and tell you they don't feel good and let you help them? Made me feel like I'd failed at being a mother if my poor sick 9 yr old couldn't come tell me she was sick :( Got her some tylenol and took off. (She is feeling much better now, so we'll send her off to school to share all those fun germs with her class - gotta love school!)

Started out WAY slow this morning, plus the first mile is all uphill - yuck! Finally around 3.5-4 miles I started feeling better - what else is new, huh? We (those slower paced BBKers) did just one 5K loop, and then a couple parking lot loops @ a mile each. I figured I should be tapering a bit for Saturday, so I was game to do only 5 and not 6. We finished the same time the rest of the group finished their 2 - 5K loops. Yup, I'm slow!

AP: 9:37 splits: 9:59, 9:32, 9:15, 9:38, 9:39, 8:00 (for the last 20 feet over 5 miles - hehehe, had to throw that in when I saw it!).

Now I'm off to yoga and to make sure my daughter isn't going to crash at burn at school when the meds wear off. I hate it when they want to go to school and I feel hesitant to send them!! I'm volunteering in Kindergarten at 10:30, so I'll check on her when I'm done and make sure she doesn't need to come home. I'm now just hoping I don't get whatever she's got!!

Next run: SLC 1/2 marathon!!

Okay, I must say - I've been kind of psyching myself out of this all week: I'm too tired, I'm too big, I'm too...yeah, the list goes on and on. Now that the race is over I've busted all my excuses and feel great! I honestly could've gone a few more - not 26.2, but maybe 15 or 16. It all just felt good!

Picked up Tom Slick and my SIL and got to the race in decent time, and started about 3-4 min back from the  gun time. Had a few good laughs about my shirt with the trax train crowd, and some good 'looks' from people as we were in the porta-potty lines.

Started out nice and easy, I didn't want to waste energy weaving around people, so I mostly just took what they'd give me. I blame the slowest 2nd mile pace on a mixed up water stop, it was our first as a group: stop, don't, okay stop, go back a few steps to get it, where are you?, group up, run on. The rest of the water stops were MUCH more successful!

It was great chatting with Tom and my SIL, I really didn't even think about miles until I got to my 'death point' at about 6.5 from the first time I'd run the race...I knew I was 1/2 way and was still feeling good! I felt like we kept passing people and were keeping a decent stride, I rarely remember being passed. I would hear a few giggles from some folks as I passed them, and a couple comments, but I honestly thought I'd get a lot more from the crowd with the shirt. Maybe they just felt too defeated that a pregnant lady had just passed them :)

I was pleased that I had absolutely NO ITB pain the entire run, first time I've run that course w/out the pain. I guess that is one GOOD thing about pregnancy hormones: keeps all those tendons nice and relaxed :) As we headed up the last hill just as you cross mile 12, besides the heavy breathing I really still felt just GREAT...so I let the stride go a bit. I really, truly would not have guessed the pace was as fast as it was! If I had that much left in me at the end I should've run a bit faster throughout. Meh...I felt good! Who am I to complain about time when I'm finishing a 1/2 marathon 30 weeks pregnant?

Crossed the finish feeling good and with a little bit of kick in my step! No pain, no fuss - just a wonderful easy run with a couple of excellent friends! When I noticed the time was just over 2 hours, I honestly felt a bit cheated...I wish I would've knocked enough out to finish just under instead of over, but that's the competitor in me I guess. It was hard sometimes during the race to see people I was running behind and think "I should be in front of you..." Maybe that's what kept me motivated, who knows!

I'm SO grateful for Slick and my SIL that made the day even better with good laughs and GREAT company. It was fun to run into a few people too, missed BSRools crowd - we'll have to do the parkway sometime!

AP: 9:17 splits: 9:43, 10:13, 9:19, 9:11, 9:23, 9:19, 8:57,  9:21, 9:00, 9:37, 9:07, 9:38, 8:06

Had hubby take these pics afterward...I hope you enjoy them :) No laughing at the fat pregnant lady!!

blah, blah, blah - another week, oh and did I mention how much I HATE Sunday! I have to run on Monday to get out all the crap that Sunday piles into my brain!!!

Step class - another good one! Kept the HR up the full hour, but she made it tricky too!

5K on the TM: 1st mile @ 9:40 then a potty stop from drinking all my water during/after step. 2nd and 3rd mile: AP: 9:30, then I kept running on the 8:20mm pace for the last .10 until time ran out.

Can't wait to see the Boston reports coming in!! From what I've heard it's all been good news so far - YAY!!

Nice early morning with the BBK's - the wind made it a bit chilly, but beyond that it was beautiful; early, but the blooming plants and trees make it worth it!

The group did speed work, and I tried - but I think my speed work sits around a 9:30 now-a-days :)

AP: 9:34 splits: 9:26 9:24, 9:31, 9:38, 9:50, 9:47, 8:34 (for the last .2)

As you can see, I really didn't ever feel my 'groove' hit today that I normally do after mile 4. I was really surprised to see how slow the last mile was, because I really felt like I was picking it up a bit - hmmm, I think it's lead legs from the 'race' on Saturday. Nice to see the 8:34 even if it was for only just under a 1/4 mile!

Getting kiddos off to school and then I'll go do the body sculpting class and a 30 min bike ride nice and easy to maybe spin some of the 'lead' out of me!!

*class was crazy tough today! Then I did 7.5 miles @ L3 on the recumbent bike*

Rachel and the terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day!

Didn't want to get up and run before - I was just lazy and wanted to sleep.

Boot camp - mostly kick boxing today, but did a TON of squats: one legged, two legged, and weighted.

Hit the TM - just didn't want to run. Shins hurt, felt heavy (mentally and physically), felt tired (mentally and physically), felt defeated (mentally and physically). So, I turned up the elevation and just walked. 1.5 miles on 10% grade @ 3mph.

For any of you Biggest loser fans I felt like O'neal did on last night's show. Know I need to hit it hard, but would rather just hit something and cry. Now I feel like Koli - will eat 4,000 calories if it will help the situation! (Blaming it all on pregnancy hormones and irrational thoughts).

...I think I'll move to Australia.

Well, the best laid plans....

2AM I woke up chucking my guts about every 15 minutes. I now wonder why I was so 'crazy' yesterday. I still have yet to decide if it's sickness or food poisoning.  Needless to say, it's noon - I'm finally sitting upright - consumed 1/2 cup of liquid for more than 45 minutes - and will be resting for the rest of the day. I'll probably be out of it for a while now, it always takes longer for us pregnant ladies to recover from crud like this.

I'm taking another rest day today. I feel well enough to go walk or bike at the gym, but I think my efforts are better spent repairing a days worth of 'nothing' in my house. That way, the weekend will be less stressful - hopefully.

Wow, what a couple rest days does for my energy level :)

Why is it that I can take a full day to carefully plan out what I'm doing for my Saturday workout, then when the alarm goes off I find some way to change and re-arrange those plans so that  I can sleep in for another 30-60 minutes?

Went to spin class - did 1 mile warm up run on the track beforehand. Spin was seriously AMAZING today! I had a sweat fest and it felt harder than at any point in my race last week or run this week! It was a great mix of intervals, hill climbs, runs and jumps - with little rest.

Came home wanting to run OUTSIDE in the SUN! YAY! After 2 days of couch/house work/rain, I was ready to get out and enjoy it, and boy did my feet and legs respond. I decided to run our stake 5K loop twice, that way I  could drop water at the house and not have to carry it with me. Only downside is that although it is a loop, I SWEAR 70% of the course is all nasty uphill...ugggh. I run it the reverse of the stake race, because that gives me downhill at the beginning and end, the rest is gentle/nasty uphill.

1st 5K - 27:56 felt good, and saw a lot of people outside and a TON of runners. Feeling good, grabbed a drink and I was off for more!

2nd 5K - 28:17 - about 2/3rd of the way through this run (just before starting the last nasty uphill climbs) I decided I had enough time and gusto left in me to do 3 loops. Felt good at the end, but I knew it was slower than the first. Grabbed another drink and told my hubby "just one more!"

3rd 5K - 28:24 - I could tell my energy level was lower than the first two times when I started not liking the uphill so much just after mile 1, not at 2.3 where I had before :) Still felt good and pushed through the last few, still passing some of the same people still working in their yards. Finished the last downhill strong, glancing at the garmin it was about 7:20 as I hit the last .10 of the 5K.

I honestly felt today that  running this loop 3 times was a lot shorter than some of the 9-10 mile runs I've done before. I felt good and strong, SO much better than the last couple days. I guess that's what you get with 2 good rest days...well, I don't know if Thursday can be counted as a rest day, I felt worse than at any point today!

Nice easy run this morning! My mom took my kids last night till Tuesday evening - so I'm all alone :( What is a mother to do without kids?!? I mean really - I don't want to clean! :)

AP: 9:33 splits: 10:12 (uphill with wind, and I was cold!), 9:12, 9:01, 9:33, 9:50 (back up hill!), 9:26.

Felt good to be out despite being a bit cold - should've worn gloves, I'm still waiting for my fingers to defrost! Sun was beautiful and I'm excited to NOT have to do TM and that I got to sleep in. Hmmm...this no kid thing ain't so bad (I'll take the one I'm still draggin' around - he likes to be my running partner).

Going to hit the gym for step class, then I think I'm going to surprise my daughter and paint her room while she's gone - I've only been promising this for the last 2 1/2 -3 years :)

Slow, windy, uphill miles today!

I was up until 3:00 putting some finishing touches on the girl's room last night (especially the 'drilling' stuff I can't do w/out hubby!), so I slept in :) However, I have a doc's apt at 10:45 that I needed to get to so I had to get up and run before that. Otherwise, I'd have to take a 'non-running' weigh in and I can't do that!

AP: 9:44 splits: 10:21, 9:44, 9:29, 9:19

The first 2 miles were ALL uphill, except some of the second - then that was straight into hurricane force headwinds. I felt like it was a good workout, but looking at the paces you'd think I was taking it easy. The 9:19 was 80% downhill, with flat being into the headwind - so you can see the effort was there! But yes, that was the end of it - no gym today so I guess you could call me slacker :)

Now, I'm off to doctor's appointment to make sure Bourne Running is doing well!

I will post a pic of 2 of the room later.

The two days of running around, staying up late and working on the room have caught up to me, I'm TIRED!

Went to the gym and did Boot Camp, it wasn't a crazy cardio workout, but she kept us moving on resistance the WHOLE time. Man alive, it was hard!

No energy to run after class so I walked on the TM for 1 mile @ 10% grade at 3 mph until it was time to go next door to story time at the library.

Now I'm home and have another full day in front of me to get ready for a journey down to Moab.
