SOJO Marathon starts in Copperton and finishes at the Jordan River bottom by lifetime fitness. It drops just over 1000 feet in elevation more in the first half than second half.
Taunia drove me to the start line and I had 6-7 minutes to spare before the race started at 7:30am. I wish I could always have the race only 15 minute drive from my home. I did forget my watch. The biggest reason I like my watch is to keep me from going out to fast. My plan was to take it easy and run the first half in 93 minutes and hope I could get close to that on the second half. I hit the first half in 91 which felt pretty easy but maybe just a hair to fast considering I just ran the SGM two weeks ago. At mile 4 I asked a runner what the time was and on-line they have the half split and at mile 17 Taunia gave me my watch as I passed our home, so I do have a few splits.
Miles 1-4 6:49 Avg, Miles 5-13.1 7:01 Avg, Miles 13.2-16 7:48 Avg,
Miles 17-26.2 7:21 Avg.
The race went well. My stomach was felt just a little nausias on and off but not bad. For some reason I started feeling pretty good around mile 15-16. I was hopeful I could keep pushing all the way but a few miles out I could tell my legs would cramp up if I kept up the speed. I slowed a little and with one mile out I picked up the speed but then my legs told me no so I had to slow way down with very tight legs. When I crossed the line my quad tightened up so I couldn't walk for about a minute until it relaxed.
I got 1st in my AD by over 10 minutes and beat all the 40 and overs!
