I've been attending a professional development the last two days called the "elevated teaching summit". Based on the sessions I attended, elevated teaching consists of outsourceing most of what we do to Artificial Intelligence. Screw that. I'll keep grading my own essays, keep making my students read real books, keep making them write on real paper, and keep relying on feedback from real humans.

Nothing artificial about what's going on in my classroom and I'm going to die on this hill.

If they want you to outsource your work to AI, what is that freeing up your time to do, in their mind?

That is left unanswered Tom.

Stick to your guns, AI is good for information support but not for critical thinking and decision making which is a core aspect of what you are Teaching your students to become effective adults and members of society.

I appreciate the affirmation Jeff!

Very much agree, too. Read real books. Is there a way to ensure no AI on homework besides forcing in-class essays?

I don't think so Jon. They all use it for everything they can. They have even learned to dumb down AI essays to make them appear more authentic. Making them write in class is the only solution I've come up with. Of course that takes away from instructional time so it's not a perfect solution.

I remember doing a done of in-class English and history essays in high school. Builds character, and can't cheat (at least, as easily). I had one right after a rock climbing class- my forearms and hands were so tired from the climbing that I could barely hold the pencil.
