Had a fair amount of success as a Masters runner for most of my 40s. Short-Term Running Goals: Have fun with running, explore more trails, stay healthy. | AM: 6.5 mile walk around Dunedin. That takes a while.
PM: 1 mile swim in the VERY WARM Highlander Pool in Dunedin Fla. Turns out they're going to demolish this pool after this season and build a deluxe new one. Since I swam in it on opening day in 1978 I can now say that I swam in it the year ir opened and the year it closed.
They were playing Billy Joel's "Only the Good Die Young" on the speakers at the pool deck today and I was thinking the same song definitely could have been playing in 1978.

| AM: Drove up to Evanston, Wyoming and rode 50 miles on a mix of road and gravel. Far less traffic in Wyoming because nobody lives there. All those cows and sheep are represented by two United States senators though. Same as California.

| Noon: Started at Lander City Park. Headed out of town for ten miles of paved road then hit the gravel of Coalmine Road to the town of Hudson, Wyoming. Turned around at 22.5 miles and returned the same way.

| AM: 7 miles up and down Grandeur Peak.
I was thinking that the Grandeur Peak hike from the Church Fork trailhead is clost to a perfect anti-aging workout. Here's why...
1. It takes me about 90 minutes to hike up. My heart rate stays in the low 120s the whole way making it a perfest aerobic workout.
2. The trip down is great for bone density and eccentric muscle development.
3. The nature of the terrain makes it conducive to developing and maintaining balance.
4. Using poles in the winter gives you a good upper body workout as well. In the summer, I try to drop down in the trail and do 25 to 30 push-ups every half mile or so when there's no snow.
5. The creeks, foot bridges, waterfalls, and just the general awesomeness of the Wasatch range induces a sense of awe which is great for mental health. You just have to remind yourself to lift your eyes from the ground in front of you every now and then.
If I can keep doing this every week for the rest of my life, I might not die!
