Is Fartlek a word I should know?

From Amanda on Tue, Jun 21, 2011 at 17:25:49 from 75.165.230.128

Haha YES! It is when you do things such as what we did today, where you run a certain amount of time on and off. But it doesn't always need to be the same amount of time on and off or from set to set.

Why fartlek? Also the dictionary disagrees with you...or at least has a more comprehensive interpenetration. It says terrain AND pace must be varied ("to eliminate boredom and enhance the psychological aspects of conditioning") ... okay maybe you should just explain it.

Well, I'm sure its preferred that the terrain be varied, but once in a while we will do it on the track- and I don't think anyone would fault you for calling that fartlek. Maybe the Swedes would, so just be careful at the Jamboree.

Yes indeed. In Sweeden it's called "INTERVALLTRÄNING." Ah, I love cognates! This is a good thing to know. Those Swedes might have had my head for messing up something that critical!
