I ran my first marathon as a teenager in 1981 with my Dad (The Coronado Marathon). Since then I've run St, George (3x) Utah Valley (3x) Ogden (1 full, 2 halves) Park City (1 x) Boston Marathon (1x) Washington DC (1x) Moab Half Marathon (6x) ,Ye Old Freedom Festival 5 & 10K (a million x) and many others.

But I'm all done with that now.  I'm officially a jogger.

Thanks to Sasha for not freaking out after I recorded all 350 of my 3rd and 4th quarter miles in one entry. I had several big miles FRB'ers comment to help me "correct" my error who didn't read the entry (I wouldn't have either, it was wooooordy). I just don't find time to blog my miles or spend a moment writing about my runs like I used to. Also, with the air quality, ice and cold temps-- I can't risk my health or hamstring so I've run a lot of my winter miles on a treadmill (boring).  Sadly, though the dogs still get really-super-dooper excited to see me walk out in running shoes and still freak heck out because they think it's time to run.  My poor dogs.  My poor hamstring.

Watched the 2nd half of Casino Royale. doing that thing where I do all of my situps and pushups and squats before I run. Skiied the rest of the morning through the early afternoon. I'll be back tomorrow, it's still snowing. Gotta love the POW!

I still havn't made my UVR training calendar and have no idea what I'm doing. I do know I've got to lose 8 pounds at least before I start with regular 7+ mile runs.  It will be easier on my knees overall to be lighter.

Warmed up before going outside in this intoxicating sunshine.  Did my favorite Vintage Park - - Ronald Park -- River trail loop. A lady walking her enormous unleashed great dane along the trail yelled "Don't worry, he's friendly!" at me while her dog galloped toward me. Even though I knew he was harmless and I believed her, it got my heart racing to be charged by a dog the size of a volkswagen.

I don't think my knees can handle skiing and running on the same day.  My knees got sore yesterday.  Got to lunch with queen Josse.  I miss running-running. But lunch is a close second. I have a few favorite Josse running memoires, but my favorite is Ogden Half Marathon with her and Ericka.  Josse was 5 months pregnant. It was a beautiful day, and we saw a hawks flying over Pineview resevoir while the sun rose.

I did all my sit ups/push ups/squats and ran 3 miles.

I felt amazing, energized, not sore, not tired.

Then came home and ran another 3 miles.

I think I like this configuration and will be using it more frequently as I build up miles

I want to record that now past my mid 40's I can actually feel the moment in my cycle when my progesterone level dips.  It is sudden, and severe and leaves me exhausted/lethargic/foggy for 2 weeks before my next period. The sensation has, over the last 3 years, become severe enough I'm seriously considering a perscription to either progestrone cream or contraceptives (which I never used in my life).  I am day on 1 of a new cycle and it literally feels like I'm using amphetiamines / caffeine.

I am feeling good.  It's a miracle. I think my liver and progesterone are performing quite nicely.

I did my favorite loop around Ronald and Vintage Parks.  Im offiically "won't run over ice" years old.  I'm ok on the fresh stuff.  My butt/upper ham and knee got a little cold and stiff as I got on, but noted how incredibly strong my legs feel compared to last year and most especially the year before.  I truly think the probiotics I had been taking in 2009/2010 changed the way my liver/pancreas were metabolizing.  My blood sugar is back into the low 70's which before was impossible to raise from the 50's without eating straight up sugar.  I'm really feeling better, all except for the knee and ham which will plague me the rest of my life.

I hurt my knee skiing yesterday.  The 20 inches of snow that fell, was heavy and wet and messy on top of the mountain.  Toward the end of the day, I leaned way back in my skis and could feel the pain from that cross fit injury that landed both of my knees into the cement floor.  I'm sure I've torn the tendon, I'm sure it's tendonitis.  I spent my day doing sit ups/push ups and icing my knee trying to decide how bad I think it really is and if I should go back to the orthopedic surgeon.

I hope not either. I walk-jogged today and it's not too bad--but it's associated with flexing my quads. So it's back to the drawing board with all the ham/quad strengthening and stretching. I skiied like a maniac 4 days in a row on heavy, wet snow and by the last (heaviest) day, I lost my balance.....I'm not panicking yet. It may just be the end of skiing for this year.

I walk-jogged this at 13-15 MM.  I did a lot of strenghtening excertsizes and quad/ham/knee stretching.  Stretching/foam rlling makes me cry and shake uncontrollably when I'm trying to straighten out my leg. Booo hoooo.  It's the skiing on my big fat powder skis that did me in.  I leaned too far back over a big load of snow and my tightened quads pulled my tendon to shreds.

I kept thinking of Michelle's race report and Sasha's running analogies like ram in the thicket and caged tiger, and wondered if I'd ever feel that way again. I do feel better than I have in a very long time in spite of the old knees.

The false spring is ending, my hands and knees got stiff /cold.  But it did melt all the snow away. I did some grass running around the local school yard, and there was a lot of stuff of the grass, finally exposed after being under the snow since December: a pencil cases, a sock, a jacket, lunch box, trash (lots of trash), and someone's notebook.

I walked out my front door to see my son and the entire track team on the street running past the house.  It gave my heart such joy.  I made the mistake of getting too excited about skiing and I made many mistakes that prevented him from feeling like he could ever be better than me. His father made the same mistake with Basketball. But running--I'm a girl and his Dad never runs.  So even by default, he wins.  It's something he can excel at all by himself, like it was his  idea.  I'm so pleased he will have something he enjoys doing that will get him through the traumas of being alive.  I am so grateful.

My knee is still not better from my ski mishap two weeks ago.  I am in the foulest of moods regarding fitness.  I ate an entire bag of Doritos with my son on Saturday.  So shut up.

Hi sweetheart! Gosh I miss your sense of humor...you were always so fun to run with. I've started blogging again..kinda partly because I want to force myself to publicly post what I eat everyday. I started this pregnancy 10-15 pounds too heavy and I'm trying..if that's possible...to not gain 40 pounds..it's usually a pound a week for me! I still can run 10 min pace..ish adn would love love love to meet you for a run someday. I can go pretty much anytime once in awhile but usually try to get out the door about 6:45 to 7 ish. Send me a private message and we can set up a time if you'd like...or hey..you just need to come visit me (I"m too kid heavy to come see you...5 little boys 8 and under doesn't travel well). Skied a gorgeous blue bird morning--perfect velvety corduroy and 3 inches of sweet new powder tucked in between the trees.  I realized, as I did up my boots that the foot pain is from the boots.  It snowed 20 inches a few Saturdays ago and I tightened my boots really, really tight to be sure to have good contact.  I skied 5 hours straight and in addition to wrecking my knee the next day, I'd also bruised my toenails.  Can someone hit the rewind button take us  back to 2010?

15 soccer games, 7 track meets, 2 spring road trips and 1 student elections later......oops, did I skip 3 months? I'm trying to catch up. I've recently been using a fitness app on my phone since I do so much strength/weight training and other things besides running now.  Even running, though I've averaged 25 miles a week for the past while, I'm not doing bonafide running "work outs" or "speed work." I just want to run a crappy, happy marathon without reinjuring the hairline fracture on my foot, further damage the hamstring tendendois or have my knee cap float into my thigh from a severed patallar tendon. Though, it may not work. 

Anywho....I won't try to average and log my mileage in one entry like I did last time. Some poor guy who'd worked very hard that week and was anxious to see his name on top of the weekly/monthly mileage board messaged me that I had "ahem" made an error in my entry. I'm so over keeping track of mileage, I just want to keep track of my kneecap.

This cold is aweful. Who gets a cold in June?. This old guy ran past me on the river trail and told me to straighten up my shoulders, I must have looked like death, I felt it.

Ran the freedom festival w/kids who finished in 23 (ivan) and 24 (Sage). I did t do so badly at 29 minutes. I thought it could have been worse. We ran home from the race to get an extra 3 miles.

I am so freaked out right now. I did my Ronald last/vintage park (1) loop and absolutely could not finish the run W/o walking the last .4 of a mile. It reminded me of those last days 2010 before I knew about my blood sugar problem. I was terrified I was going to pass out crossing the intersection on University Ave. So I walked home and when checked my blood sugar. It was 36. That is a new record low.  I am so lucky I didn't have a seizure. I have GOT to EAT before I go out. No excuses anymore.

Also concerning is the fact that 5 minutes after I ate 1/2 cup my special hypoglycemic 7 grain cereal/steel cut oat/fruit/agave concoction I blood tested again and my blood sugar was at 102 (which, while normal for most people, is extraordinarily high for me).  I usually can't get over 90 without eating candy.

I am so discouraged right now. I thought I fnally had it all figured out.  My foot is healing, I thought I was eating properly. I can't understand how to make my liver and pancreas work right.

I think going 1-2 days in between runs (doing my high aerobic work outs on the off days) is better for me.

Maybe my body doesn't like being this weight.  It likes to be fatter.  I feel stronger when I'm fatter, but it's harder on my knees and stuff.

I wanted to run like 8, maybe 10. But you know how it is, running with friends. Met Smooth, Cathy and their north County crew. Smooth and I ran really slow up the canyon. I made her go ahead to find the group. I walked a mile (not counted here) to Vivian park. I knew I could do the downhill w/o aggravating the hamstrings, so I thought I'd wait till they finished south fork. But I was sweaty and cold and turned around to run back. I thought I'd go slow enough they would catch me. But my downhill miles were easy and I ran a normal pace. Saw Josse riding her bike up the canyon and Cath toward the end. I hope I don't pay for those extra miles, I need my knees this afternoon. I have a ton of yard work now my kid is home from the Unitas.

Luz!!! :) :) :) :) :) You have no idea how very happy I was to see you this morning!!!! You were truly God-send! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for running slow with me and being my "shoulder to cry on". You inspired me and uplifted me!!! One thing I didn't to tell you is how much I relive over and over and treasure the time you ran me to the finish at UVM last year just before my mission. AND you look FABULOUS!!! I've got to do some of that strength training you told me! You're AWESOME!!

So after my run today, I thought, hey. you know. It's been 6 months with this weird pain in my foot (I thought from tightening my ski boot too hard during a slushy spring ski morning in March). I went to the podiatrist to get an xray, and it's broken. I've been running on a broken foot. 

7 weeks on the boot or surgery.   I give up.
