Grew up in St. George, UT where I ran at Desert Hills High School from 2012-2015. I spent the next 2 years in Rancagua, Chile as a full-time missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

Tought workout today. I was supposed to be hitting around 2:21 for my 800s but I wasn't feeling really well today and got tired quicker than usual. I usually drink 4 bottles of water before practice to prevent this but did not today.

Two-a-days on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday this week. Had a pretty tough workout today. 1.5 easy miles to Webb Hill where we did 8x1:00 hill runs, and an easy 1.5 back. When we got back we did 6x100m striders. Overall I had a pretty good workout although I did start to cramp up on the way back from Webb Hill. Easy 3 miles later today.

Ran 6 with the team over to Jake Powell's house, took the last week off for scout camp (bad mistake) so I didn't do very well today. Going to do the Chelsi Run later today. I've already run 1 5k this summer so I'm excited to see how I will do.

Just got back from the Chelsi Run. I had a pretty good race and finished with 18:48, by far my best time this summer. I took fourth behind three other Desert Hills XC runners so we all had really good races.

Did 4.5 over to Hidden Valley Park where we did 4x2:00 at race pace then ran back to the high school to do 6x100m striders. Had youth running camp again today so I did a little running with them too. Today was our first day of team camp. We got to Brian Head in the morning and ran 7 miles. It was a pretty tough first day of running at the high altitude, there was some pretty steep uphills and downhills. Later we ran 3 miles which was pretty much all downhill. Before we went to bed we got to hear from Andy Powell and the great John Powell about preventing injuries and setting goals. It was a good first day of camp.

For our second day of camp, we were shuttled down to Panguitch Lake where we ran 6 miles and got to stand in the water for a little bit afterwards. I felt really well until the last about half mile when we started to go uphill. For our afternoon run, we all did a four-team relay. We each ran 3 times for about half a mile. The team that I was on, which we called "The Dream Team" took first with a little extra help from our captain Brigham. Later that night we had a team talent show. It wasn't really a competition, but if it was, Brigham and I would've won. After that, we watched "Prefontaine." It was a great movie and made me want to go out and just run! Today was a really fun day of camp and I started to feel a lot better at the high altitude.

Today was our last day of camp. We got up early in the morning to go out and do our run of a little over 6 miles. We took a few wrong turns but we got back on the right trail and had a really good run. I don't know if it was the movie that we watched last night but I was really pumped to go out and run this morning. I felt great, the high altitude hardly bothered me at all. We did have to run up this insane hill though, but other than that, the run was great. After that we packed up and went home. I had an awesome time up at camp this year and I can't wait until next year! I'm getting really excited for our first race to see what I'll be able to do.

Today was the first day of BYU XC/Distance Running camp. We did a 2.25 mile threshold run to put us into groups based on our speed. I did a 1 mile warm up and cool down to get to a total of 4.25 miles.

For our morning run at camp today, we did 5 miles by the Provo River trail. I did a 3 mile optional run in the afternoon by the Canyon Glen Amphitheatre. For our evening run we did a fartlek at Kiwanis Park. Our fartlek was 4 minutes hard, 4 minutes easy, 3 minutes hard, and so on. The mileage for the fartlek turned out to be about 2.5 miles.

Today was our last day of camp. We had a small track/xc meet. I ran the 2 mile xc course race with a time of 10:47. After that I did my evening run with Darian and did 7 by my uncle's house.

I don't know if this is right, but my friend had on her watch that it was a 3.23 mile course, so 4.73 miles total. Had a good start and got out front, but probably a bit too fast. The first mile was 5:22, then I slowed down and the second mile was 6:11. I finished at 18:23 in 8th place behind Josh and 6 American Fork kids. Other than going out a little too fast, it was a pretty good rae for me.

Just an easy 7 this morning over by the Thatcher's house. My hip was killing me today on the downhills. About half way through, we saw a life-flight helicopter flying over us and it landed on top of the hill only about a hundred yards from us. It was really weird, but then we looked around and saw what looked like a dune buggy crashed at about half way up the hill and a group of rescuers climbing down the hill. It was a really sad thing to see and I hope everyone is alright.

Easy 6 over by the Thatchers. It was a way fun run because Ben kind of just led us wherever we really wanted to go. Even though there was a lot of hills it was still probably one of the funnest runs I've been on this year.

No morning practice today. 7 mile Michigan workout in the afternoon (1 mile warm up, 1 mile on track at 5k pace, 1 mile on road at 10k pace, 1200 on track at a little faster than 5k pace, 1 mile on road at 10k pace, 800 on track at a little faster than 5k pace, all out 400 on track). It was good to be on the track again for my first ever Michigan workout, having been a little banged up the previous two times. I felt pretty good with the workout today, although my stomach was feeling a bit upset.

I was supposed to do 5 easy miles this morning but ended up doing 11. Yes, 11. Allow me to explain. So Darian told me that she had to do 11 miles today and I was just going to run with her for the first 2.5 then turn around. But then my dad said to my sister, "So you're just going to be running by yourself for the next 8.5 miles after he turns around?" to which my sister replied, "Well I guess Kale could run 11 miles with me." Normally I would have said NO WAY to this, but because I didn't get a run in yesterday I felt sort of obligated to. It was an okay run, we ran 4 miles over to Bloomington, did the 3 mile Bloomington loop, then came back, it was pretty nice outside this morning. I used my compression sleeves for the first time today and I didn't see a huge difference. My legs weren't hurting too bad though which was good. At the end of our run, Darian said, "My legs are pretty sore, I've never run this far before." Confused, I said, "Wait, you've never gone 11 miles before? Why do you have to do it now a week away from your first indoor race?" She replied, "Oh I don't have to do this, I just wanted to get some fun mileage in." At this point you could say that I was pretty angry with my sister. "So you mean to tell me, you could've run 5 easy miles with me today instead????????" ".......Yep." I guess it wasn't that bad of a run, but I wouldn't necessarily call it 'fun', and I really wish she would've told me I didn't have to run 11 miles before I did it.

Race day! I got a pretty good position at the starting line and had a really good start, I think I was actually in first at about the 100 meter mark. I pulled back a bit though because I didn't want to lead at that point. It was a really awesome course and race, the uphills were challenging but I used them to pass quite a bit of people. I think I was in 15th-20th place for most of the race. I was in 20th with about 400 to go and I worked my way to 14th at the finish. I set some goals going into this race and I accomplished them all so I'm very happy with how I performed. I'm really excited for next year, especially because I took 4th for our team according to average mile time (I'm using average mile time because all the other runners on my team ran the 5k course) and the top 2 are seniors. Track season has officially begun!
