Skied all day at Brighton during the bipolar weather.  First cloudy, then snow, then snow and pelting wind, then snow, then  cloudy, then 20 minutes of sun, then cloudy, then snow, then snow and pelting wind then fog then snow then cloudy then clear then snow..  You get the picture.  When it was clear/cloudy we warmed up and felt great.  Skiing was awesome except the times with snow and pelting wind.  Not fun when on the chair.  On the ground we hid in the tree trails.  I can ski and have skied since I was six.  But nothing can prepare you for a snow-butt-boarder falling on their front and creating a BOARD BLOCK one and 1/2 feet high and four feet wide. I had two seconds to think and first second I thought here goes the rest of my life without running and the next second how can I come out of this in one piece?  Visions of twisted arms and legs and a ride down the slopes on a stretcher filled my mind.  This is how it happened.... my daughter Brooke yelled "mom look at me" I turned for a fraction of a second and then turned around to see the snow boarder crash I had no choice but to crash into her road block I somehow flipped over on to my left shoulder and neck then felt the whiplash take over as I went backward then forward with my head very suddenly and quickly (I ended up in a head roll), I saw a flash of blue light and thought Oh my this is not good for me (with the headaches I already get).  The whiplash was intense for that moment and I layed there on the ground holding my head and neck, not sure if my skis were still on or not but felt they were.  Since I am a skier the bindings don't give well since we are supposed to be able to do tricks and have them stay on.  So my kids and husband stood in awe as they missed my fall but only saw me on the ground and heard the snowboarder say "sorry" and ride away.  I didn't hear her but she was gone nonetheless.  She must have been scared.  It took 10 minutes and then I got up.  I could feel my body.  For that I was thankful.  But I knew what kind of injury this would be for me. Whiplash neck muscle injury.  I would have to skip tomorrows run, hopefully just one day.  I can't believe my thinking.   It could have been a lot worse, like Christopher Reeve who ended up paralyzed just from falling forward off his horse.  I feel like definitely that was not my lot in life because the fall was quite painful it could have been my fate.  I still skied the last hour but I was very careful as my neck and head continued to get tight.  Ibuprofen helped the initial inflammation but I was off to work and couldn't take anything stronger.  I dreaded my twelve hours of working all night but glad when I got home to take a muscle relaxant and sleep for four hours.  Yes only four.  I like to see a positive in a negative so I hoped this fall somehow wacked my brain and neck into place and perhaps my headaches would improve...wishful thinking.

It is actually one I bought from Good Earth called First Cleanse. In pill form it contains all the herbs (the most gentle one of all this company's cleanses) to cleanse the 7 channels of the body (lungs, skin, gastrointestinal, lymph, kidney etc..). It does not contain any wheat, soy, corn, gluten etc... hypoallergenic... unless of course one is sensitive to any of the many herbs in it- the list is long- from milk thistle and garlic bulb to fenugreek and tumeric. Many. It specifically tells you which herb helps which system. You start by taking one in the am and a different blend at night, on an empty stomach with a glass of water. Then you go up to two pills on day four. I tried it back in April when my headaches were ultra bad so I didn't get far...just a few days when I just thought every thing I was putting into my body was giving me a headache. Now that I have detoxified more thru nutrition- avoiding table sugar and breads and eating raw vegetables and fruits and taking probiotics (prescribed by my homeopathic dr.), I lost twenty-four pounds and my headaches are still there but not to the degree as before. And the muscle fatigue has lessened greatly when I avoided all perfumes in lotions and detergents etc... So now I am feeling optimistic my body is ready for it. I was told by my Dr.'s nurse practioner of homeopathic medicine that my body was too toxic (last August) and I apparently react to many common foods (after having an extensive allergy test) and all the preservatives put in them. That is my long explanation. There are more cleanses I would like to try like Sauna Therapy with vitamin replacement, but money and time are an issue. Someday. Meanwhile I try the best to watch what I take in and apparently my running has improved just from these changes. I just got to watch out for snowboarders and opening car doors (while riding my bike). PS I was impressed by your craving for apples I remember reading that in an enty a ways back. Apples have something in them that begins with a "Q" I think that helps build immunity. It made me want to eat more of them and made me think how your running is affected by what you eat. All of us basically. I remember reading in Runner's World about a guy who runs Ultras at an old age and what he eats (basically a lot of junk food) and I was thinking maybe it doesn't matter and it is all about genetics, but then I read further and he had a couple of heart attacks finding that his arteries were clogged. Sure his running saved him but his eating put him under. Case in point. Good nutrition, healthy body. Good luck friend!!! PS I originally sent this to sasha's blackhole (where things never get sent but you think they do and I just got the message it was not sent)

I just wonder how I can get to the point where running better- my best- becomes the most important thing. I have spent SO many years eating badly. I guess I am not to the action phase of change yet. You are a real inspiration to me Julie :)

i remember reading that RW article and i thought the same thing. my apple cravings have turned into banana cravings, hence my "depleting the world's supply". bananas are cheaper than apples so that is a plus! "quercetin" is a phytochemical found in apples...is that what you are thinking of? good luck with the cleanse.

Marion- You have been awesome. Your suppport and positive attitude is what makes me really enjoy this blog. So what I am getting at is that you are an inspiration to me :)

Allie- so far so good on this cleanse. I noticed I feel the need to drink more, I guess a good sign.
