Warning: Not for the faint of stomach

Memorable weekend with no working out. My 2 year old started throwing up (violently and repeatedly) Saturday evening (the first puke showed she can projectile vomit down 7 carpeted stairs and onto the floor below), then my 10 year old, then my 8 year old and 3 year old. It was terrible- lots of vomit, then dozens of dry heaves throughout the whole night. They definitely know what stomach acid looks like now. The 3 year old threw up so hard she popped blood vessels in her face.

My wife made two late night shopping trips to buy more carpet cleaner, then saltines and soda, then she threw up, too. I spent most of the night cleaning up and comforting kids, plus doing puky laundry. We put the two year old to bed only for her to completely fill her matress with puke- she was literally sitting in an inch deep puddle. Cleaned her up, put her back to bed (probably at midnight or so), and found her puke coated in the morning. I think I went to bed at 2 am or so.

The only not-sick child was the 5 year old, who is our early riser and woke me up at 6 am (bless his heart). I went to some church meetings then came home just in time for the 5 year old to start puking- Marci did go to church to teach, then I did two home teaching appointments. Other than that, it was a day full of cleaning, doing 6 or more batches of puky clothes and bed sheets, and resting. The kids basically sat on a couch all day, sleeping and watching tv (and I don't feel guiltly about it). I did watch at least part of all 4 football games, amidst all the puking and cleaning. Better games than last week, especially the Cowboys-Packers.

To top it all off, I started feeling bad Sunday evening and, sure enough, started throwing up just after midnight. I slept terribly and felt the same. I woke up at 5:30 am and writhed in pain on the bed for a few hours.

It's now midday Monday and I think we're all done with throwing up, though still very tired and weak. Needless to say, no working out, as I'm weak and even a sip of water sends my stomach into spasms. This is the type of parenting day they don't warn you about.

In case you're wondering, we had root beer floats Saturday with Walmart ice cream, and I'm pretty sure that's what caused all of this. Blah.

holy moly, that is an intense vomit frenzy. that's terrible that you were all struck with it. i hope everyone is recovering okay.

if you haven't already, you should report it to the health department if you think it's food poisoning. if it was truly caused by walmart ice cream, that stuff needs to be pulled and tested -- could make sooo many more people sick.

great games this weekend -- happy to see the packers pull it off and sad to watch the seahawks struggle so much. sad for the chiefs, too, but it was a great effort. bored with the patriots. they won, you say? what else is new.

ps - these are the types of parenting days that i read about on the internet which make me start backing up slowly and waving my hands in "no thanks" gestures.

plenty more good stories to balance it out, though. :)

Yeah, I reported it Saturday night. I had the same thought.

I was rooting for the Packers and Chiefs, so good and bad. And I don't like NE or Pit, so can they both lose this week?

Even in the middle of bad days like that, when a 2 year old cuddles up on your lap, it's worth it. Kids are great, though not always easy.
