"Engaging in a little suffering — however self-imposed, arbitrary and contrived — before breakfast each morning tends to demand some humility and injects some marked relief into the rest of the day, making things sharper, more inspired, more immediately aware of the powerful presence of being. And that seems really worthwhile." A. Krupicka
"I cruised down hills, churned up hills, and floated over the asphalt, existing in a world that seemed to lack the confinements of such ubiquitous rivets as time, obligation, or pain. I knew then that this was destined to be one of those serendipitous runs for which so many of
us strive yet so rarely achieve." J. Nevels

| | This is the 4th day in a row with no run. My right achilles is feeling a lot better. So is the nervy piriformis pain in my right leg, and the pain in my right ankle, which I've determined are tendons that have been straining as my achilles gets tighter and tighter. My whole right side in fact, has been in pain for a while now. I guess I've been in denial. Nothing was so bad that I couldn't run, and I'm positive there is no serious or permanent damage. But I'm taking a couple of more days off - a full week total. This is unprecedented for me on this blog. Duh! I should be taking a good break like this once, or twice a year. Anyway, I feel really great about this decision. Ogden Marathon is a large question mark at this point. I'll probably hold off on the decision until the day before. No big deal if I don't run it; just a real expensive long sleeve tech shirt. In any event, I'm really looking forward to the next run to see if the rest has helped at all. I'm also looking forward to many miles in decent weather (if it ever comes) this Summer and Fall. I'm not a racer, I'm a runner. I love to run, and to reap all the benefits of being a fit runner, and being able to carry my body over long distances over all sorts of terrain under my own power. Time to get more in touch with the spiritual side of running again.

| | 10 miles / easy. From work. Mostly sunny, temps in the low 50's. The achilles is still tight. No where near how bad it was last week, but still...probably just going to run very easy for a while, focus a lot on form, and hopefully strengthen the problem area. The piriformis didn't whine at all, yay. Most likely no Ogden, unless I get in a stupid mood at the last minute and go for it. WT 10 miles.

| | 5.3 miles / Easy. Went to Kamas to visit friends and ran on a dirt road adjacent to Jordanelle Reservoir. Great find for a place to do a long run. No traffic, nice soft surface, beautiful surroundings. Nice cap to an easy week trying to get my achilles to settle down. Today's run felt great.
WT 26.9 miles.
