This is the 4th day in a row with no run. My right achilles is feeling a lot better. So is the nervy piriformis pain in my right leg, and the pain in my right ankle, which I've determined are tendons that have been straining as my achilles gets tighter and tighter. My whole right side in fact, has been in pain for a while now. I guess I've been in denial. Nothing was so bad that I couldn't run, and I'm positive there is no serious or permanent damage. But I'm taking a couple of more days off - a full week total. This is unprecedented for me on this blog. Duh! I should be taking a good break like this once, or twice a year. Anyway, I feel really great about this decision.

Ogden Marathon is a large question mark at this point. I'll probably hold off on the decision until the day before. No big deal if I don't run it; just a real expensive long sleeve tech shirt. In any event, I'm really looking forward to the next run to see if the rest has helped at all. I'm also looking forward to many miles in decent weather (if it ever comes) this Summer and Fall. I'm not a racer, I'm a runner. I love to run, and to reap all the benefits of being a fit runner, and being able to carry my body over long distances over all sorts of terrain under my own power. Time to get more in touch with the spiritual side of running again.

Very nice perspective! You are thinking AND acting smart.

I have some thoughts. You and I have not done a great deal of trail running, right? I know you have done more than I have, but am I right in thinking not a ton? Anyway, I think that 50 miler almost exclusively on trails might have been hard on our ankles (they say the part of you that really feels it as compared to road running). I have to be able to find a way to explain what is going on, so that is what I come up with. We have weak ankles. ;o)

Darn 50 miler, great experience with some major lingering side effects!

Enjoy the time off. I still think if you feel better for Ogden, run it. It does not have to be a race, just a nice long run with aide stations!!!!

Wise man! I know many people here who do not run much on trails like I do, and when they do, they complain of ankle pain! Kelli may be right. I have no idea what causes the ankle pain from trails, but there it is. I have been thinking the same - that a few days off this week will be good for me.

JD..I love the reality checks that come once in awhile. I have to remember all the time what running is about for me. Its not about racing, or competing, or setting myself up for nerve racking issues. Its about health and strength, and it really is a self spiritual experience. Finding out about yourself in ways you wouldn't otherwise.

HOWEVER..I will indulge the pretending that you maybe aren't going to run the Ogden for a few days, but we all know it will end up getting the best of you. Literally. :)

OK---I posted my doctor's visit. Bad news for me. BUT, hopefully yours is not as bad AND you rested earlier than me so I am sure you are in better shape. And, really, it was not that bad (just not what I wanted to hear!)

Wow Kelli. That doc sure is thorough. But I guess that's why he's a doctor. My injury probably isn't nearly as bad as yours. I don't know if the week long break made any difference, except mentally it was nice. I hope his prescription does the trick for you.
