St. George Marathon (26.2 Miles) 02:34:10, Place overall: 12, Place in age division: 3 | |
It may seem that I am mad/upset about my race because I haven't written anything yet 0 but I am actually pretty pleased. We had an awesome group for most of the race that really helped out. I am just a tiny bit bummed that the wheels came off for the last 4, but that is life. I will write the full report when I get some time. (Mana 105.25) I was looking back at this report for this year's marathon (2012) and saw that I never came back to update. Pretty lame that I never did (note to self: even when upset about a race, write about it for future reference). So I'll just add in now - a year later - the race had a good group for much of it. It was very hot and we knew that there would be a lot of roadkill. So we started more conservatively and slowly picked off people hitting the half just seconds under 1:16. Before we knew it, we were headed up Winchester and in the top 10. Ben V. went on to take 3rd, Justin took 5th (I think) and I faded back a bit through the twist and a few people picked me off and I dropped back to 12th. I guess that I just why I was a little upset; I had a sure top 10 in my grasp until the last mile or two and just didn't hold it very well at all.

| | Felt pretty good today - and it really tempted me to run. So, I decided I'll let that goodness settle in at least through today. I had wanted to swim this week, but the weather has been so cool and rainy that it seems out of the question. Hard to fathom since it has been so hot up to yesterday. | Add Comment |
| | AM - 3 AC. Joined in with the boys on their run this morning. Felt pretty good, but there is obviously a lot of fatigue and still some soreness in there. Wore a long sleeve, but it wasn't necessary yet. (Hyper Speed 63.75) |

AM - 3 AC. Another nice morning out after rain all day and night yesterday. Mostly the quads sore - the rest is feeling pretty good. (Altra 273.5) afternoon - 5 Nisson's. Although there is no more Nisson's, I'll still probably always call it this. Good run, feeling better each day. (Stratus grey 854.85)

| | AM - 3 AC. A bit cool this morning - could have used gloves! (Rocket 123.25) afternoon - 7.25 Grass. Some good grass running as the team ran around doing a workout. (Free 526.45)

| | AM - 8 Millcreek. Up early and in the dark, but I really wanted to hit a trail, so I went up Millcreek with a flashlight. The trail was real nice because of the recent rains. Then took some kids up to Cedar to watch a few of the former runners in their college race. (NB 101 235.75) Good recovery week. Feeling pretty decent. Goals for next week: keep myself under control while I continue to get some legs back.

AM - 3 AC. Nice easy morning run, just because I love to run. (Oregon 142.5)
afternoon - 6 Neon Spider. Took the boys out on this run that most hadn't done before; kind of funny to see them freaking out in the tunnel. Molly's Mile. (Ohana Racers 588.75)

| | morning - 6.5 Soccer Fields. Ran down Mosquito Trail and then up to the new park to check out the progress and then around a little more in the Fields. (Altra 280) afternoon - 8 Prospector. A beautiful day, short shorts, and a trail. What else would someone ever need. I sure wish my legs were ready for a whole weekend of 20+ mile trail runs. (Old Ohana -8)

morning - 7.75 Grass. DI warm and cool with the team and then ran some loops as they hit the grass for a quick paced workout. Felt pretty good - achilles is getting a bit hot, so I am icing it up good today. (Last Ohana 227.5)
afternoon - 9.25 Mustang Pass. Actually got a bit of a sunburn today! Like yesterday, I drove the mile to the trailhead, just so I could get more mileage on the the trail itself. A little tired in the legs, but who can pass up the dirt and the sun? (Boston 723.25)

morning - 12.25 Bracken's Loop. Another nice desert trail run. Went with Steven up through the sand on Brackens' Loop then ended with Molly's Mile. Felt pretty good. These trail runs put a lot more time on the legs than road runs. (Triumph 769) Solid recovery week. With some nice time in the dirt to end the week. Goals for next week: One more recovery week. No need to push it with State XC this week, use the time to get my own legs back and focus on the team. Lap swim: 15 minutes - first time I have been swimming in a long time. Felt very good. Had wanted to swim after the marathon, but it was just too cold (unbelievably after the heat on race day). Pool was just a little chilly, but who is to complain when you are swimming outside in mid-October.

| | AM - 6 Parkway. Up early and pushing the stroller since Elin wouldn't sleep. Next time I need to put a reflector vest on the stroller just to make sure people are seeing it. (Rocket 129.25) afternoon - 6.5 2xDI/Grass. Warm up and cool down on DI and 5x200 with the boys on the grass. Old man can still roll when necessary - not really! (Ohana racers 595.25) |

AM - 6.5 Green Springs. Nice morning out. Gotta love the nice cool temps and starting to get a spring back to the legs. Found myself with a decent last mile just as the body warmed up and it made me excited. (Kinvara 478.15)
afternoon - 8 SLC. Ran on the grass for at a park in Sandy for 3 miles and then 8xbarefoot striders. Then Trevor and I ran back to the hotel, extended through Sandy. (Barefoot '11 161)(Oregon 149.5)

| | afternoon - 8.5 Dirt Mile. Molly's Mile and then went up and did a bunch of loops on the dirt mile. Felt a bit tired and worn down from the emotional week. Wore a pair of Hokas that Steve had me test drive. They were a little different - the big cushion isn't heavy or even bulky like it looks, and they feel pretty decent even okay on the responsiveness; but I wouldn't spend the money on them. (Hoka -8.5) | Add Comment |
| | AM - 20 2xBlack Mt. Up early for some dirt running with Logan. Everything was good, but tough to follow the trail section in the super dark. But a beautiful morning. Really enjoyed it. Wore the Hokas again - about the same response on the shoes as last night. Ready to try and get some mileage up and hit more and more dirt. (Hoka -20) Week was good. Some decent running in and a semi-successful/semi-disappointing State Meet - but the kids are awesome and I am always so proud of them for their hard work. Goals for next week: More and more mileage - practice is starting up again in the morning so that will force me to get up. And I want to do some of the workouts with the kids.

AM - 6 AC/GS. Morning practice again, so that got me going and out of bed. A good run with a few of the boys to Arctic Circle and then I threw in Green Springs Club House to mix it up. (Boston 729.25)
afternoon - 9.5 Parkway. Good run with the boys out on the Parkway. Team should bounce back well from the disappointment at State and do well for the rest of championship season. Finished up with Molly's Mile. (Hyper Speed 73.25)

AM - AC/DI ext. A little more rested this morning and a nice run. A little change of weather in the air. (Triumph silver 618.05)
afternoon - 9.5 Target. Took the boys out to Target and then we sneaked into the tunnel to scare the girls as they were running Neon Spider for the first time. Pretty fun. Then added a little more and DI myself, finishing with Molly's Mile. (Ohana racers 604.75)

AM - 6 2xAC. A bit more chilly this morning. Not a bad run considering how wiped out I was when I got up. (Stratus black 866.7)
afternoon - 10.25 Old Man Hills. Another hill workout today... and it was a pretty good one. Boys went 2x800, 4x400, 2x200 (girls one less 800). And both groups really nailed it. Tyson is really looking strong again and the girls pack is really awesome - now do it in a race. Rolled my ankle pretty hard core though. Molly's Mile when I got home. These have been pretty fun lately, as Laney is joining me on her bike and just flying all over the place. (Rocket 139.5)

AM - 6 AC/Lutheran. My ankle was totally rancid this morning after cranking it yesterday. But on the good side, my hip has been holding up pretty good. Needed a name for the DI with the extension and it goes right next to a Lutheran church, so there's the name now. (Landreth blue 671.9)
afternoon - 8 Grass. Not a long workout, but a good one. DI warm and cool with 2xmile cruisers - Indian run style. Worked out real well; bumped up a few of the top JV to run with us and they did very well. In fact, the cruisers were faster than we have ever done, but the pace was so manageable for everyone that I didn't worry (5:47/5:43 w/ 2min. recovery). Molly's Mile. (Oregon 168.5)

| | AM - 15 Prospector. Always a good run when you hit Prospector. Started off a little hairy in the dark - no one liked that part and I got us started off on the wrong trail. But we recovered and then rolled. (NB 101 250.75) A pretty solid week. The best I've had in months. Hip held up for doubles throughout the whole week. Had a few good workouts and then ended on a great trail run. Goals for next week: Continue to build up the mileage (might not get as much on Saturday, with another meet), but overall have a solid mileage week with a couple real solid workouts.

| | AM - 6 AC/GS. Monday's usually aren't too bad to get out and run on. Nice morning and it was a good start to the week off with a run. (Free 532.45) afternoon - 11 River Trail/DI. Out and back for 9 on the River Trail with the team. I've started dragging along a couple top JV's to get them ready to roll for next year, and they are doing well. Finished off with DI on my own at a pretty quick pace before a night of festivities with the fam. (Boston 740.25)
