Started a 12 mile tempo run from top of Little Mountain down to Sugarhouse Park. 6:21 average for the tempo. Happy with the run and felt strong. | Another St. George Marathon in the books. A decent race for me, not a PR but I was happy to finish sub 3 hours. My dad drove us up to the start line again this year. Got up there about 6:00 and used the restroom and got ready to go. I could tell it was going to a warm one, it was like 55 at the start line and 65 in St. George when I got up. Race started a few minutes late and I took the first few miles fairly easy. My plan was to start a little more conservatively to hopefully have more in the tank for the last few miles. Came through the 5k at 6:37 pace. Started to pick it up a little heading to Veyo hill and at 10k I was at 6:29 pace. It was getting warmer already and I was trying to stay hydrated and dumping water on my head at the aid stations. Ran Veyo and the next few uphill miles as planned, nothing exciting about these miles. Hit the halfway point in 1:27:34 or 6:41 pace. A little slower than I had planned, but still in decent position to finish strong. Started to pick it up the next few miles which are pretty downhill and made up some time, getting to the 30k mark at 6:35 average. Was able to maintain a good pace for the next couple of miles, but after mile 21 I was started to really feel it. It was getting hot and I couldn't keep the pace I wanted. Started to walk through the aid stations and my pace dropped. Final few miles were in the 7:00's and ended up finishing in 2:57:36. Like I said, I was up to run a sub 3. I would have liked to PR, but that wasn't in the cards today. Will take some time off and figure out what's next. Not quite sure what the plan is for my running future. |
