Short-Term Running Goals: -Find some good local races to run that will motivate me to stay in shape. Long-Term Running Goals: -Run a few fast marathons. Grandma's, St. George, and Boston are on my target list.
-Stay fit for a very long time. I believe what goes into making a competitive runner at age 60 is much different than age 20, just like what goes into making a good marathoner differs from a good sprinter. I hope that by taking care of my body, I can be very fast for my age as I get older.
Personal: I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I live in the Twin Cities with my family and am an Epidemiology PhD Student. Running is the only hobby I have time for :) |

| | Pre meet. Decided to go very short today. Hips felt stiff but there's not much I can do in advance of the race. I'm hoping they last and that I can take care of this afterwards.

St Croix Crossing (13.1 Miles) 01:06:48, Place overall: 1 | | First half marathon ever, first time being taken to the medical tent. That being said, I think the kind officials and fellw runners who helped me out haven't seen college runners before. If they thought I looked bad on the ground, they should've seen the carnage of NCAA XC Champs March 2021. I felt relatively recovered sleepwise, but a little fatigued from everything, incluing actually some great news I got yesterday that may have just distracted me a bit. Overall, I was probably in a bit better shape at my last race, so my time today was fairly expected. A 67 would have been dissapointing and a 65 would have been exciting. What this does tell me is that I'm a ways off from Olympic Trials. Running sub 63 sounds crazy, even if I had competition and the course wasn't up and down like it was today again (though more down this time). I would have to qualify with an actual marathon. I plugged this time into a couple conversions and they gave me 2:19 as a projected marathon. On a good course, I think I could get it done. But that assumes you are equally fit for the marathon as the half. Running 5:06 pace kind of made me chuckle because it appears no matter what the distance, my body settles into 5:00-5:10 pace on the roads. So I think I have good marathon potential, but to harness that I would need to learn how to take calories while running (today by stomach was in knots again and I couldn't stand to think about having some gatorade), and I would need to do more long runs in the 20 mile range. I would perform woefully off of the 13 mile LRs I've been doing recently.
Splits: I have a hard time beleiving them. I was sure tired at the end, but tired Ethan running downhill is usually faster than conservative Ethan at the beginning of a race. I feel like all the early miles were short and the late ones long. Either than or I have poor perception of pace! 4:56, 4:59, 5:01, 5:02, 10:17, 5:21, 4:51, 5:10, 5:05, 5:26, 5:03, 5:01 (pace for the last 1.1).
