Went and played basketball this morning for an hour. This was the first time in a long time and surprisingly, my shot was on and I was able to score quite a few points. Hoping to get in a few miles of running tonight. I'm signed up for the Butch Cassidy 10K Saturday, but probably won't race it too hard, since I don't feel like I'm in very good shape right now.

4.5 miles around La Verkin, felt pretty good average pace was 7:17

Tough trail run for me up through Chuckawalla with Dave, Clyde, Logan, Lindsay, and Carl. I usually struggle on trail runs, today was no different especially feeling out of shape and over weight. Anyway, glad I got the miles in and it was nice to run with the other guys. I picked up some Cafe Rio on the way home, so combine that with the run and now I'm feeling pretty full and tired. Tonight's run was the longest I've gone since the marathon.

Ran the Butch Cassidy 10K race this morning. I've never done this race before, usually because of the timing being a few weeks after the St. George Marathon, I've never really felt like racing. However, I figured this year I would give it a try, even though I haven't been training much, I thought it would be a good speed workout if nothing else. Saw Tony Jones, Karl Wilcock, and Dave Smith so I figured a top 5 goal was within reach. There is usually always at least one guy that shows up unexpected or nobody knows about and they run decent. Which was the case today.

Anyway, I got up there way too early, so I just decided to do an easy out and back 4 miles as a warm-up. I did the first two miles of the course, then turned around and headed back.

I really didn't have any time goals, just wanted to see how I felt. Like I said I haven't been running much since the marathon, and especially nothing faster pace.

1-5:53 Karl and Tony took off, Dave was in third, I was in 4th. I was just trying to hold back a little. I was taking splits from my Garmin and I guess I should have probably taken splits from the mile markers. Anyway, I was about 8 seconds slower with the Garmin on the first mile

2-5:57 Another good mile, feeling pretty good. Once again about 10 second difference

3-6:12 I was at 17:45 at mile three when I looked at the marker, so not bad, but nothing blazing, just enjoying the run

4-6:36 Probably the hardest mile, with a good hill climb. Guy from Ogden passed my here, but I didn't really care

5-6:23

6-6:13 This last mile is on dirt, so I was being a little more cautious.

.1- :36 Goal was just to finish under 38 minutes. Had to dodge quite a few of the 5K runners that were finishing up.

37:53 (6:05 pace) I felt ok with my time, considering the shape I'm in right now. I think I'll give the Snow Canyon Half a try next week.

Hung around forever, waiting on the awards and hoping to win something in the raffle. No such luck, but I did have a nice conversation with Nick McCombs parents.
