11 Easy on the bike bath. The old hot and humid.

So I am back. I tried to stick around after the first bad quad injury, However after the 2nd pinched nerve in my neck and then the torn rotator cuff in my right should... I vanished. 2014 was a terrible year for me running wise since I could not get out. After many bouts of rehab and chiropractic... I am cautious but optomistic. Today was the longest pain free run of the year. I will celebrate by eating.... oh the eating....

Thanks Joe, it was. I am going to pass on AF. It's a solid marathon and I have run it many times, but I think its a bit too soon. I have my sights on a late fall/early winter marathon. If my body continues to be injury free.

Decent run this moring despite the 100% Humidity/65DP/65 Degrees. Not overbearing heat or anything, just wet. Ran a newer part of the bike trails today. Lots of nice people out. Passed by one running couple. Anyone else feel the urge to race people when that happens? I am the one who usually passes people and yet I dont think anything about it, but when I was passed I suddenly felt like today was a good day for speed training :)

From SlowJoe on Sun, Jul 12, 2015 at 10:57:54 from 45.18.50.53

Yep. If I get passed it is only because they must be speed training while I am doing a recovery run, because no other explanation is possible. And even then, yeah, I might do a few impromptu strides...which might last a mile or more.

Great job on the 12 miles.

Deer, bunnies and LOTS of nice bikers on the path today. I am a little annoyed that I keep staining running shirts. The body glide seems to stick to my shirts and set in. I don't even put them in the dryer. Oh well. After the run I did a few hours of mowing and yard work. I think I sweat more doing the yard work. Tropical smoothie seems to make up for it though.

Is there a better way to break in new shoes? I think not!  Humdity was back up but DP was low so today's run was not too bad. 64/88%/59DP- not bad at all.

There was a 10k on the bike path so on the way through they handed me some water and gatorade. I think it makes a training a whole lot better. I wonder if they will just do that always. Probably not, but its a nice thought.

Flat- Thanks, and I have never, what do they call it, bandit ran? I just happen to cross paths very briefly, but they didn't seem to mind and I liked the refreshments :)

Joe- Like you, I started with Kinvara 1 and 2. My ones finally dies at about 700 miles. The 2's I still use for mud runs/trails. They have 700+ miles. So far the 5's feel about the same. AKA GOOD. The 6 is the newest model, so I bought the 5's off Amazon. I prefer cheap :)

From JG on Tue, Aug 18, 2015 at 19:18:58 from 174.60.252.61

Ahhh ... I was hoping you were closer and might come run some with me, although I am not sure how many miles I will actually be running. It is 2 loops, so I would kinda like to run one and then run/walk the second loop, but it would probably be much wiser to do a run walk interval the whole race.

From Dan on Tue, Aug 18, 2015 at 19:20:33 from 199.115.114.229

Birmingham, Alabama. Red Mountain State Park. SWEET hilly trails. Tough run, and I needed it.

Why? This travel is wearing on me and yesterdays run was cut short. So last night I was in Savannah, Tennessee. Wanted to run 8, but only got 4. I was in town and decided to run these trails by the river. Pretty area and good potential for wildlife. So I hit the trails and 2 baby deer right off the bat. Nice. Then 2 giant spider webs, not nice. As I go in I am about 2 miles in and I see a coyote roughly 15 feet in front of me. No worries in Ohio they are skittish and run away. Well here he ran for a moment. Then came back with a friend. Then preceded to hold his ground. Well they looked at me and saw my hairy legs and arms and figured it was fur. I think they thought I was some stray cat and a meal. So yes, I took off the other way pretty quickly.... short run.

Today was much better. Hot yes, 85, humid, but the mountain run was great. Good hill run. Look forward to tomorrow.

Glad to be home and in the states! In Mexico all week for work meetings/retreat. Left Puerto Vallarta about 12-15 hours before the hurricane hit. I am very thankful for that!

The running in Mexico was awful. The beach was 1/2 mile max surrounded by rocks and running back and forth on the beach was not in my to do list. The resort was gated and running off resort was difficult at best. So that left the workout room. The 90 degree workout room. The humid workout room. So every mile I ran there... all 32... was a nightmare.

Home running and despite the tired legs and lack of sleep was a welcome 65 degrees. What a difference. 20 Miles. 8:40 pace (minus warmup/cooldown). Feel good, just tired, but I think that is from the travel.

The Indy marathon is next week and only 2 hours from me so I was wondering if some might be running that. I am still trying to pick my first marathon back. I know I should just run it, but I want to at least give a good showing. One in VA 3 weeks from now looks nice as does one in Delware in December. I'll ponder. Maybe 2016.

Today was a lesson in math. I learned that 19.5 > 20. Yes, I know, that sounds like silly common core math, but 19.5 was indeed greater. I ran the toughest trails in Montgomery county. Orange loop x6. My legs are killing me. It winds and curves, hills steep and gradual, rocks, tree roots (that the leaves hide), streams and slick mud spots all make for a challenging trail. So while my legs ALMOST feel like I ran a marathon it was a good run. Some boy scouts hiking let me know how many times I lapped them. I hope this run pays some rewards when my body assimilates it.

Good to see you getting back in the game. You'll come back stronger just from the forced rest.

Tornado warnings canceled my run yesterday, Today, a nice 44 degrees and a decent run. 5 Roughly every other mile at MP. Presents are wrapped. Time to get some rest and reflect on the year God has graciously given us.

Sounds hypothermeriffic! The only time I don't like rain is below 40 degrees or so...but to each his own! Have a great new year, Dan.

Is hypothermia possible while running... I mean if you don't stop.... I MUST KNOW JOE.

Hey thanks, have a great new year. Let's have more fun on the blog too.

Busiest day of the year for me at work, so not a ton of time. I am pleased I have been able to get back running and my old injuries appear to be just that, old injuries. My goal was and is to get back to the starting line and back to Boston, etc .. blah blah... but I need to do  a 5K and see if it hurts as so far the training has been fine, but I lack speed. I mean I always lacked speed, but now I REALLY lack speed. I guess I will see when I try and push something for more than just intervals.
