Been a while since I've done that (even if a long run is only 7 miles). It was a nice cap to a good week. We went up Providence Canyon and went to the top of the quarry. I loved it.
Felt pretty good today. Hip got sore (that is what my brain said, but it was actually still the pinched nerve) towards the end and I am woefully out of shape.
AM: 5 miles (4.5 running - .5 walking) - Felt good today.
PM: Received a Transforaminal Epidural Steroid Injection. This reduces swelling of the irritated nerve and speeds recovery. It includes a small amount of Lidocane with the steroid to provide immediate relief along with the long term relief of the steroid. Upon rising off the table, I felt no pain in any movement that normally produced pain. I know that the pain is only masked so I went home and rested to provide a safe period of healing.
AM: Only did PT exercises to make sure and not injure the back due to my injection I got yesterday. Feel 98% right now. So far the injection is working perfectly.
8 wonderful miles on the river trail. Nothing but me and my headlamp out there (I did have some clothes on I guess). I started to hurt the last half mile or so. Far from healed, but doing much better.
Ran 5 miles in the light snowstorm. I went and checked out the addition to the ICON section of the Planet Walk. There is now another quarter mile of trail west of ICON. Too bad its cemented.
Had an adventure today during my run. As I exited the planet walk by the railroad crossing I watched a pickup truck's tire fall off and see a shower of sparks as the truck ground to a stop. Wild. I spent the next 10 mins or so hunting in the dark with my headlamp for a missing tire. I had to wrestle it out of the muddy swamp and over a barb wire fence and back to its concerned owner (she was not hurt). I managed to squeak in a few more mile after that.
BST from Wasatch to the Draper Temple and back. It was a blizzard and very slow going due to the deep (in places) snow. Felt more like 10 miles rather than only 7, but still fun (and way better than going to work).
Providence Church to the Star then along deer fence for 2 miles then returned along the same route. The trail was packed powder and was not very easy to run on. 2 steps forward and 1 step back. Sure beat the road though...
With the temps in the single digits, the windchill from the wind coming out of the canyon nearly turned me around. I know, stubborn cody turning around cause he is cold? Unheard of. Luckily my stubborness won and I was rewarded with wonderful views of snow covered trails and mountains. It was a gorgeous day even if the going was slow due to the deep snow. Loved it.
Final Run of the year! Got a flat on the way to Providence Canyon. Lame. Ended up running from the tire store while they repaired it. Got a few more road miles and less trail miles. Not what I wanted to do, but I only had time for that option. Best news though was that the 9 miles didn't hurt at all.
My new year's resolution is to not get injured....again. Yeah right.

** This run put me over 2500 miles for the year. 635 miles were cross-training but still not a bad year for being injured for so much of it. That brings me to my Year-in-Review
This year was loaded with highs and lows. It was a year of rough injuries but was also a great year for trail running.
