Young Ward Loop at not quite Tinman tempo pace. Hard, but not real fast. It was a great morning to be out as it was clear with a full moon to light the way.
Today's run was an adventure. Ok, not really, but it was different from the norm. It could've been the 7 degree temperature, or the moonlight, or the fact that my headlamp batteries die easily when the moon is full, or it is 7 degrees outside, or I am on a trail and can't see. Either way, it was an adventure. Center Street to Dry Canyon, Deer Fence Trail over to Providence Canyon, down the canyon and home. I felt really slow today, but was 5 seconds faster than last time I did this run. Either way, it was fun.
Today Jon, Paul and I braved the snow and cold temps to experience The Bonneville Shoreline trail from Paul's house to Logan Canyon. It was a success. The snow started to get deeper and slippery by the second half and that really slowed the pace. That and the slowness, right. Nothing makes a run slower than adding some slowness. Nevermind.
We dropped Paul off at his warm and dry home while we ventured back out for more miles. We headed up his street to the canal trail. Followed that a while, ran down a street and voila, we were at the mouth of Birch Canyon. We ran on the dirt road up the canyon for about a mile, but it got progressively slippery-er (is that a word?). After a while, it was a pure ice sheet covered with an inch of new snow. It was a minefield. I feared for our lives. We attempted a random trail off-shoot but was quickly deterred. Lets get out of here. During our escape, I decided to test the grippiness of my shoes, but was quickly humbled as I slid on my hip a few feet down the road. That road is not runnable until you get a thick layer of snow over that ice. Anywho, we added on more mileage on the canal trail until Jon was satisfied with our run.
Started at 7.5 mph bumped it up to 9.5 in increments of .1 every min. Worked back down to 8.0 then back to 9.0 then back to 8.0. Ended up averaging 7:01 overall.
Didn't even have to debate about it. At 5:30 AM I am not going to kill myself slipping on the ice and freezing my butt off when I have a perfectly good treadmill in the basement.
Ok, to be honest, it was a snow run and only 3 miles of it was on a trail, but at least it was something. We did the River Heights to Dry Canyon to Providence Canyon via Deer Fence and home via Providence. It was warm (about 30 degrees warmer than yesterday) but still only 20 degrees. Slow going but a tough workout.
It was warm (32) but the slushy roads were pretty icy and that made for some slippery miles today. I tried out the Planet Walk, but it was not plowed and nasty. I decided to stick to the roads and took the 400 W route.
Providence Hills with Millville short extension. I ran the flats at 6:45 pace with the hills hard both up and down. Roads were cold (3 degrees) but clear so no complaints.
Today's harder workout was thrown out the window when I stepped onto the roads this morning. It was too icy to get any traction and my push-off was not happening. I was fortunate to maintain 7:30 pace as it was.
Long run with Paul and Jon. I'll be honest. I was cold and they ran me into the ground. We ran up to the Millville/Providence bench to try and locate the sun. I was sure the Sun was up there somewhere and yep, it was. Once we dropped back down into the soup, I was once again miserable and whiny. I am sure that I will not be invited to run with them again.
Feeling better today. The headache is gone, the sinus issue is better and the throat is better. I have sure enjoyed sleeping in, but now it is back to the normal routine.
I hit the treadmill watching Dirty Jobs for 7 miles in the evening.
Took the day off today from work. Slept in till 7. Spent time with the kids, went running, packed then left town. Now I am in SLC for the weekend. Its close to double Logan's temperature right now here. Nice.
Today's run was cold (single digits) and slow. Providence Millville loop. Once my snot froze things went much better.
Jordan river parkway with my ipod and a new Pearl Jam album for company. I started at 6200 S and headed north for 8 miles then turned around. I thought I was feeling pretty decent keeping the pace under 7 on the way out. Turns out that I had a tailwind. I decided to try and keep it up and kept the pace moderate the whole way. I figure that I am finally over my cold as I finally felt my strength return today.

-Today mostly salvaged a bad week of training. Hopefully next week will be better.
AM: Back in Logan - 4 F, bad air, tired. I guess I didn't feel like running outside today. I will get out for more tonight. Not sure if it will be in or out...
Broke out the old (& mostly unused) NB800's to run in the snow today. They worked like a charm and I didn't have to sweat through another session on the Dreadmill.
