8 mile run today up the Middleton trail and to the water tank then down around the industrial park. Typical taper run with some pains and stuff along the way but overall a really nice morning to be out running.

(Blue Cumulus- 512.7)

I decided to do what Jon did on his blog the other day. A short little comparison of this year and last year with some stated goals.

Last Year This Year

weeks at 100 or more miles- (10) 100 miles+ a week- (22)

120 miles+ a week(5)

Longest week- 103.7 133.65 all running miles

Snow Canyon Park 18 mile run w/ 7.5 mile tempo

(5:19 min mile pace) (5:12 min mile pace)

20 mile run with 10 @ brisk and 10 at tempo

overall-1:59:40 (tempo avg 5:19)1:55:47 (tempo avg 5:19)

As far as overall mileage goes I'm hundreds of miles ahead of where I was last year at this time. I'm not sure how many but a lot.

Goals for STGM on Saturday! Listed in order of priority.

1. To PR from last year

2. Be in the Top 10

3. Sub- 2:22

4. Place in top 5

5. sub- 2:21

6. Place in top 3

7. Sub- 2:20

8. Win

I'm really excited to have a good race. I haven't had one in 2008 and I'm due. I hope everyone else runs great and it can be like last year where everyone was getting PR's and being happy about all their hard work. It was a great day and hopefully we'll have another one to add to our memory bank.

Good Luck!

Way to go superman. Dominate the St. George course this weekend. I am super proud of you for plugging the high mileage. Best of luck.

22 weeks of 100+ miles? Amazing! YOu are definitely due for a great race- maybe you should put top 5 as your primary goal, cause that is very, very possible. Top 3, too. Heck, top 1!

Clyde, you have put in the work, the blood, sweat & tears, and can't forget the puking!

It has been great for me to associate with you guys and learn more about running. My mileage, workouts and times are nothing close to you but I feel thet are much better because of your encouragement.

I am sure that you will have a great race saturday.

My race will be a person best, guaranteed....the first one has to be LOL.

Surprised goal #1 is to not get beat by a member of the Bermuda Tri! Haha. Hey, good luck man. You really deserve a great race. Will be alot of fun!

Knowing what you know now from last year's race and this year's training, what would you run the first half in if you were aiming for 2:27? How much would you negative split?

From wheakory on Wed, Oct 01, 2008 at 15:32:07

My goal is to not get chicked!. Clyde great comparison from last year I think I will do the same. Jon your statistics as started something here. I've really got to push myself in this race as well.

From superfly on Wed, Oct 01, 2008 at 15:44:00

Jon- First I wouldn't stress about hitting the half in any time. I didn't even look at my watch last year until the half. Just get in with a group and try to get the flow going and you'll end up sitting just fine.

Last year my goal was to simply break 2:30. I really would have been happy with a 2:29:59. However I just got in with everyone and stayed with them until mile 7 and then fell off the pace a little. Then I didn't panic and just tried to stay relaxed and work my way up all the hills. Then when I got to the half and realized I was ahead of schedule I told myself I didn't even need to push it and I'd be sitting good at the end. I didn't try to hammer the second half- pretty much an even effort will give you a negative split.

So what I'm trying to say is forget about the numbers and just run. Stay as relaxed as possible and keep focused on that all the way to the end and this course will take care of you.

If you come through at the half and it's 1:15 don't panic you'll still break 2:30. If you come through and it's 1:12-13 just stay calm and get ready for a low time.

Good luck Clyde! You have some great goals and I KNOW you can accomplish them. You have had unbelieveable season of training and worked so hard. Go get 'em!
