9..2 mile morning run. I felt really trashed when I first woke up and my left lower calf is hurting or the tendon I can't tell. Anyways I didn't want to go out but made myself. I wore the heart rate today just to see if anything crazy was going on. There wasn't... I had a resting HR before the run of 38 and an Avg. of 139 bpm on a 7:17 min/mile avg- for the run. I really haven't watched it too close know if I may be feeling some problems, but once I got out this morning I felt pretty good. I may just do a couple tonight and then try a tempo run in the morning. But if I'm still feeling like drama I'll for go the tempo and just do more easy miles.

4.2 miles tonight. My left calf/tendon was way sore tonight. When I stated off I was running with a limp. I ran over to the golf course and did 1.2 miles of barefoot to try and bring things back to square one. It felt good and by the time I put my shoes on the pain was gone. Then I just ran back home.

I iced it good before bed and hope to get rid of this pain that I don't know why has taken over my left leg. While running I was almost yelling out loud "Why am I hurt?" I didn't do anything that would cause an injury- the only thing that I can think of was running the course on Saturday with the tempo and fighting the wind. Who knows!

Clyde,

I hope it is just one of those aches and pains that come and go with the high miles. I tend to get those off and on and am usually able to run through them by just backing off the intensity for a couple days and hitting the ice and IB. I have been dealing with a few things like that for the last week or so but am hoping as the taper starts that all of those start to clear up. I also know that during the taper phase it seems that most of us start to get ultra sensitive to anything that comes up. Anyway I hope you feel better today.

My issues with my calves have tended to be due to pelvic torsion creating a functional leg-length discrepancy. As a result, my muscles have had to compensate. I have been going regularly to the chiropractor to get adjusted, which has really helped me out. May be worth checking into . . . I am not into the crick-crack of regular chiros - I had one that adjusted my neck when it got torqued out for some reason, and it scared me to death - so I found one who uses a method called the activator - a small metal implement that allows him to adjust you exactly where you need it and no where else. Anyways, my thoughts on the calf issues. Maybe it will just go away for you with ice, taking it easy and ibuprofen. Maybe a massage would help, too. I am also amazed at the resting heart rate of some of you guys. 38 (and 36 for ashman) is absolutely incredible.

James- I don't think it's too serious. That's why I keep running on it. I've asked myself when it could have happend and I don't have a good answer. So it must be something that I'll just work through. The ice and IB, and taking more easy days seem to fix things like this with me...lets hope.

The resting HR thing I don't know much about. When I saw it as a 38 I had been up doing things and then sat down and watched it drop. I have put it on fist thing and had it at 35. But again I really don't know much about HR stuff.

What time do you want to run? We are headed to a meet in Richfield in about 15 minutes - so write me back if you see this before. It is now 11:35. Do you know where your children are?

I can go at anytime. What time do you have to be to school? If we did my tempo loop it would need to be light so we could see. We could start the warm-up at 6:25 or so and then do the tempo... Just let me know what you could do.

I'm not sure if I want to tempt fate just yet with a run in the desert or a tempo pace. And I'm not sure of my distance yet - so maybe you just hit it and we'll run Monday or Tuesday next week.
