This was the same race that I was the bunny in last year.  Different course.  They didn't ask me to be the bunny this year.  I'm offended.  I would have said no anyway because I'm not in good shape, but still.

I was happy when the race started and nobody went out very fast except the three foot tall kids.  One guy wearing the same Ragnar shirt I was wearing went out to the lead.  I just kind of hung back with some of the young men in the ward, one of them being my daughter's love interest.  You know, the Blaxican.

There was a group of four of them.  After three quarters of a mile three of them broke apart from the pack to catch the leader.  I ran with the other guy for a while.  Then I got to thinking that I better not let them get too far ahead.  So I picked up the pace just enough to catch the guy the was leading but had now been passed by the young men.

When we got to Country Side Park I started thinking there was no way the course was going to be a full 3.1 miles.  I was right.  It was only 2.7.  But I wasn't worried about that.  I figured I would try to make a move when I got to the last straight away if I had anything left.  I didn't.  There was a water station at the park.  Everyone except me stopped to get a drink.  So I took the lead for about 30 seconds.  That's when one of the young men, Keller, decided it was time to stop messing around.  He and this 10 year old kid passed me.

The 10 year old was doing great, but died shortly after passing me.  Runaphorically speaking.  Keller put in some pretty good surges, and I just kept my same pace.  I saw him stop to walk a couple of times, so I thought I might have a chance.  Unfortunately with only a 2.7 mile long course and as young and spry as he is, I couldn't catch him.  I wanted to start a kick with a quarter mile to go, but I couldn't.  I just cruised in.  Then I turned around and saw that the love interest had almost caught back up to me.  Glad I beat him.  He needs to know who rules the roost.

After the race they had the Easter Egg Hunt.  I had fun keeping Emily away from the eggs until the hunt began.  Happy Easter everyone!

Runaphorically speaking - nice run this morning Burt!

Happy Easter to you as well!

From Steve Piccolo on Sat, Apr 07, 2012 at 16:27:18 from 67.2.71.8

Nice job, Burton! Happy Easter to you, too!

From Burt on Sat, Apr 07, 2012 at 16:30:33 from 72.223.93.158

Thanks Jake. Things will be nicer if I can get back to running these things in the low 7's.

From Burt on Sat, Apr 07, 2012 at 16:32:27 from 72.223.93.158

Oh, hey Steve. Thanks!

From runningafterbabies on Sat, Apr 07, 2012 at 16:35:22 from 71.195.219.247

You'll get that sub 21 soon. Shame on them for not asking you for a repeat performance. What did you do last year, make some poor innocent kids cry? I hope Emily had a great time!

From Burt on Sat, Apr 07, 2012 at 16:41:39 from 72.223.93.158

Jojobird - speaking of Emily, the cops just brought her home. Again. She escaped, and I don't know how.

From Dan on Sat, Apr 07, 2012 at 18:02:42 from 24.209.83.20

Happy Easter Burt (sounds like a cookie, I know) - next time knock that kid over. In a Runaphorically way.

From Burt on Sat, Apr 07, 2012 at 18:20:29 from 72.223.93.158

A fortune cookie? Keller's a good kid. But even good kids need a solid knocking over from time to time.

From Hamdog Alum on Sat, Apr 07, 2012 at 20:10:40 from 24.118.88.170

Nice job holding pace and showing the young pups who's boss! I got a few chuckles out of the report when you said everyone stopped for water in a 2.7 mile race.

From Burt on Sat, Apr 07, 2012 at 20:13:46 from 72.223.93.158

LOL! Always a good indicator that you're going to beat them.

Happy Easter, sounds like fun, did you break your eggs?

From flatlander on Sun, Apr 08, 2012 at 08:50:04 from 207.238.52.82

Good race, looks like you had fun.

From SlowJoe on Sun, Apr 08, 2012 at 15:14:00 from 69.131.141.92

Sorry you couldn't take out first place, but I'm glad you could put that 10-year-old kid in his place. If you had the bunny suit on, I'm pretty sure you would've won. Nice race.

From Burt on Sun, Apr 08, 2012 at 20:37:31 from 72.223.93.158

Thanks Claudio. Easter dinner was great! Too bad my wife is on a liquid diet. Hee hee!

Brent - You speak in such cryptic ways.

Flat - You know I always have fun. But winning is funner. (Ask Kelli. That's a real word.)

Joe - bunny suit or not, I have a chance at redemption this coming Saturday when I run the semi-annual Brianna Dimon Memorial 5k. Well, if I run it. It starts at 8:30am. I get off work at 5:30 am. So I may be snoozing. But I wonder how I'll do after a week of solid training.

From Burt on Sun, Apr 08, 2012 at 21:04:44 from 72.223.93.158

I just added a few pictures.

From CookieLegs on Sun, Apr 08, 2012 at 21:43:31 from 71.32.234.182

Nice running Burt. I love the photos, especially of Emily with her egg - she is adorable!!

And good luck in next week's Brianna Dimon Memorial 5k!

Cute little Emily! I'm sure she was the cutest girl there.

From Chad on Mon, Apr 09, 2012 at 09:51:20 from 168.177.153.27

The smile on Emily's face is just precious.

From Burt on Mon, Apr 09, 2012 at 10:04:56 from 72.223.93.158

RAD - oh yeah. by far.

Chad - Yesterday was her first day in Primary. She's been in Nursery up to this point except we haven't taken her to church all year because she generally gets pneumonia when we do. She did great.

From ACorn on Mon, Apr 09, 2012 at 10:28:03 from 68.66.168.22

The pics are the icing on the cake. I dare anyone to look at that pic of Emily and not smile.

From Leandra on Mon, Apr 09, 2012 at 13:40:10 from 108.194.221.39

Leandra - do you like her bangs?

From rAtTLeTrAp on Mon, Apr 09, 2012 at 17:30:52 from 24.18.125.122

I was reading all these comments thinking what is wrong with these people. Nobody has anything to say about the pic of Emily? ...Until I got half way through and saw that you added the pic later. It's all good now :) She is a cute kid! I hope she found lots of eggs during the hunt. Oh yeah, nice run too.

From Burt on Mon, Apr 09, 2012 at 17:36:26 from 72.223.93.158

I'd say it's still fair to ask that question Trap. What's wrong with these people??!!??

She got 11 eggs.

From PRE on Mon, Apr 09, 2012 at 19:04:33 from 99.50.213.11

Burt,

Sorry, thought I posted. I know I read this...way back when there were no pics.

Nice job and looks like you are coming back strong. 2d Place and 1st in your division!

Congratulations. Nice to see that you are getting more runs in.
