2012 Easter Fun Run (2.7 Miles) 00:22:07, Place overall: 2, Place in age division: 1 | |
This was the same race that I was the bunny in last year. Different course. They didn't ask me to be the bunny this year. I'm offended. I would have said no anyway because I'm not in good shape, but still. I was happy when the race started and nobody went out very fast except the three foot tall kids. One guy wearing the same Ragnar shirt I was wearing went out to the lead. I just kind of hung back with some of the young men in the ward, one of them being my daughter's love interest. You know, the Blaxican. There was a group of four of them. After three quarters of a mile three of them broke apart from the pack to catch the leader. I ran with the other guy for a while. Then I got to thinking that I better not let them get too far ahead. So I picked up the pace just enough to catch the guy the was leading but had now been passed by the young men. When we got to Country Side Park I started thinking there was no way the course was going to be a full 3.1 miles. I was right. It was only 2.7. But I wasn't worried about that. I figured I would try to make a move when I got to the last straight away if I had anything left. I didn't. There was a water station at the park. Everyone except me stopped to get a drink. So I took the lead for about 30 seconds. That's when one of the young men, Keller, decided it was time to stop messing around. He and this 10 year old kid passed me. The 10 year old was doing great, but died shortly after passing me. Runaphorically speaking. Keller put in some pretty good surges, and I just kept my same pace. I saw him stop to walk a couple of times, so I thought I might have a chance. Unfortunately with only a 2.7 mile long course and as young and spry as he is, I couldn't catch him. I wanted to start a kick with a quarter mile to go, but I couldn't. I just cruised in. Then I turned around and saw that the love interest had almost caught back up to me. Glad I beat him. He needs to know who rules the roost. After the race they had the Easter Egg Hunt. I had fun keeping Emily away from the eggs until the hunt began. Happy Easter everyone!
