3:20 marathon - Eugene Marathon, April 28, 2013 (can I say I really want a sub 3:20? but I will be happy with 3:20-3:23) -- whoohoo!

Some good intermediate races 15K - 1/2 marathon, to gauge my fitness level (done this, hit a 1:34:35 1/2 marathon in March 2013, on a hilly course)

Going after my 10 mile PR in Fall 2013

Maybe some good 10K races after the infernal Arizona summer is over! 




Long-Term Running Goals:

I want to be one of those runners who is still running in their 80s (or 90s?).  You know the ones, who look all grisley and fit?  That is what I would like!  Until then, I just want to work hard and be as fast as I can, for as long as I can.


Personal:

50 year old, trying to defy gravity and time

Used to be faculty at the University of Arizona (biostatistics).  Currently manager of the statistics and data management group for companion diagnostics (biomarkers) at Ventana Medical Systems, Inc. (Roche diagnostics).  We evaluate protein biomarkers that can be used to direct drug therapy that would be most effective based on individual characteristics (personalized medicine).

AM: (8.5, 1:12:08).  I wanted to run 10, but I was pretty achy after 20 mins, so I decided not to push too much today.  As you can see, I am trying to remain positive and I am preblogging 4 miles for tonight.  I will modify if the pain that I am feeling right now either gets worse or doesn't abate.  Compared to the nausea, this pain is a piece of cake ;-).  The stomach issues are getting a little better every day ... I don't want to, but I guess I will have to follow through with the tests they are running next week, but I am very optimistic that the tummy issues (actually, based on the tests so far it is my bile duct -- but it is near the tummy ;-) ) are on the mend.

PM: 4 miles.

 

I hope you are all doing well -- another good weekend this weekend - track and field on ESPN2 on Sunday, the USATF classic is on at 12PM EST.  Galen Rupp will be making an American Record attempt in the 2 mile (indoor) - so it should be a great meet!!!

That's a good article. At first glance it seems like that program is breaking all the rules of a typical training program (in terms of "no workouts)... but when you look a bit closer, there is actually lots of quality running in there (30 second "strides" are like 150 meters for girls, they are doing lots of hill work, they are racing a lot, and doing a long run every week or two). To me that is a great system for high schoolers. It hits all the right training systems, but w/out the weekly pressure of "8 x 800m in XYZ time" and things like that. The girls run on feel, and then get to have fun racing.
