I did the arc trainer for 20 minutes, switched over to the elliptical with Lily for another 40 min, then finished off with a 2.5 jaunt. THEN, I lifted weights. I never do this but one of my goals this year is to start so seeing how it's the 3rd week into January, I decided I better get started.
* I had a chance to run the river trail this afternoon. It was glorious. I got in another 5 miles, but due to the cold and lack of sweat it rubbed my armpits super raw. I am on fire!* |

I went to my hometown yesterday to spend the day with my mommy on her birthday and didn't get home until 1:00 last night. By the time I got kids in bed and my teeth brushed it was 2:00 and then despite having the hardest time staying awake while driving, I then couldn't get to sleep until around 3:00. Needless to say, I had a difficult time waking up this morning. I slept in until the kids got up around 8:00. I lay in bed looking out my window at the river trail and got so excited for it to warm up and be able to get out there again regularly.
Finally I got in my mileage during baby's nap time on my home tm.
On a sidenote, my husband signed up for the 50 mile Antelope Island Buffalo run on March 26th. NUTSO! |

Ran the river trail with Lilly this morning. Felt so so good. It's morning like that that makes you fall completely in love with running all over again.
So last weekend I did my first real hard core trail run down in Sunny St. G. I went with my hubby, our friend James, and a guy called Cameron, and an ultramarathoner, Jared. I was slightly in over my head, but so fun. We did 12 miles total. At one point, we gained 600 ft of elevation in .5 mile. Somewhere with about 8 miles to still run, I tripped over some lava rock and biffed it. I was not about to be the weany girl who quit, so I finished the run but I have been pretty sore since.

There is only about half my owies. Now 5 days later, my whole leg is dark black and blue. Am I tough or what? :)
Seriously one of the best vacations I ever had. All I am sayin' is why go on a cruise when you can go running? |

Started with a new massage therapist yesterday that has helped Lily, so I am hoping it will get me started to recovery because I am not feeling any better so far. 1 mile warm-up, 2 miles just under a 8:00 pace. I had a one-upper guy on the tm next to me. Boy, that bugs me. My buttock felt tight again so I did the elliptical for 40 minutes. I usually keep the resistance around a 13 and the speed at about 6.5 miles/hr. Today I kept that same resistance, but got my speed to stay around 9/hr. It's amazing how much better I feel when I am not living in pain. Woohoo! |

I ran 5 on the river trail this afternoon. It was hoooottttt, but I wanted to try to keep a consistent pace because that is something I struggle with badly. My splits were 8:40, 8:35, 8:23, 8:52 (my daughter called me during this mile), and 8:10. So they were a little off, but much better than I have been doing so I am happy :) :0 :) ;) |

I had lots of energy this morning but I kept talking on the tm to Lily and Jeff and ran a pretty slow 8 miles, but when they left and nasty gray sweats Mr. T gold chains wearing guy who tries to hit on any girl that is breathing got on the tm by me, I turned up Justin Beiber and ran the last 4 a 7:50 min/mile pace. I didn't want him to think I was in any way wanting to chat.

Today was one of those runs that only come once in a while but they are so good they keep you coming back for more.
I am going through some things in my life right now that are hard and painful, but as I put my shoes and garmin on and headed out into the driving rain this morning, I couldn't help but feel so much joy in the run. The rain washed away my tears and the wind pushed my back and it was glorious. No matter what is going on with me, I always have running to go to for peace. It is always there and gives me back what I put into it. It's where I can gain confidence to push through hard things, it's where I can rest my worries and feel peace, it's where I can say prayers and hear answers, it's where I can clear my head and find direction.
So no matter what is going to happen to us as runners we are very blessed and lucky that we have this. I assume everyone has something in their life that they are passionate about and gives them this satisfaction but for me it will be running always. I just feel so lucky today to have a healthy body and the knowledge that running is there waiting for me when I need it. Even when we are injured, or too tired, or feeling unconfident, or lacking motivation, we keep running because we know that runs like today will make the "bad" days of running worthwhile.

9 miles around the river trail, Benjamin, and the neighborhoods. I didn't think it would be a great run because I woke up feeling like I had a massive hangover, which really bites because I didn't get to have any of the fun of acquiring the hangover last night. But once I got rolling, it came easy. My average pace was 7:42 for the whole 9 miles. I did several long hills too. I had a dog follow me that I had to finally turn around and take back to its owners which added about a mile on my route. I ran into Wes and Larry, the only people that I recognized today. Finally, the highlight of my whole run was at the end when I turned back into my neighborhood and saw the guy on the corner lot who likes to water his front lawn in nothing but a speedo which is barely visible under his gut. Nice. Lily and Merri know who I am talking about I am sure. Can't miss him.

| I got up and went to Gold's this morning. Got to see my best girl friends and did the elliptical for 65 minutes. I also worked my abs. Came home and didn't feel like quitting so I ran 20 miles around the close neighborhoods and the river trail. I haven't ran that far in almost a year (not counting the marathon) and it felt wonderful. I felt so good on my last mile that now I wish I had kept going another 6.2 to make it a marathon distance. I hurt so good now :) |
