Personal:

I was a single mom.  Two times over.  We all survived, despite the fact that I make atrocious decisions.  Then, I met a man I didn't deserve.  And he loves me so much.  And I love him. We lived in sin and bought a house for two years then hired a judge and officially got married(to our great delight and also the delight of our mothers), then a month later he was diagnosed with cancer.  Well we survived all that and he's 100% fine now.  But, we're really out of shape and really busy with kids and jobs and running just isn't my priority and there's so many other layers to all of it, but I'm running anyway.  This is my failure blog now.  Just to log that one run a week if I snag it.
Somehow that matters and I want that run recorded.

27 days after c-section.  Baby V fell asleep in the car seat while we were dropping big V off at school, so got on the apartment treadmill and watched her.  Warmed up walking.  Ran 2 miles.  Did some more walking.  I'm out of shape and newborn tired but it feels good to do something.  About 10 pounds to lose.

Hope you've gotten in a few more TM runs - I know I've been all antsy about hitting the trails lately...

Okay it's for real now.  Now there's money involved.  This conundrum of how to run with a new baby and no help is solved.  I was just gonna wait for stroller season and had kinda given up.  Well the Y lets baby be in kid zone 30ish minutes.  And I start back to work shortly and am allowed to be in a jumpsuit for the first few hours.  Work laps coming soon, as many as allowed by the 911 gods.

So today my incredibly out of shape self ran 3.2 miles on the mill, then put Val in the front carrier and did stair laps.  The downtown Y has 4 flights in a row all the way to the top.  I was hurting by the 5th lap.  Not sure how many I did--til my legs quivered and I was well over "threshold".

Will be interesting to see how this training works out...

3 on the treddy at the Y until baby V's kid zone time was up.  I am sore from those stairs yesterday.  Val's dad decided to come visit her a little while in the afternoon, so I had a little time to run laps around Vanessa's school until she got out.  All miles at my 100 mile race pace.

treddy during my 30 minute kid zone allotment. Quads are still smashed from the stairs two days ago.  Can't wait for stroller season when I can run more than 30 minutes because I feel good.  Will start incorporating tabata--type workouts at home to work on general fitness.  I keep thinking it will all come together somehow and let me run some type of decent race eventually.  I think it will soon end up where my laps at work are easy days and my 30 minutes on the treddy on off days will just be balls out running hard.  For now it's all just easy running to get back any kind of a base.  I am in dismal shape.

You've been away from it long enough that the daily 30 minutes will go a long way (even @ 100-mile pace). Then maybe some opportunities for ad hoc longer runs will present themselves later. Just keep doing what you can.

I'm thinking Rocky Raccoon 100...you got ~11 months...

Crazy running paramedic - keep it up.

From seeaprilrun on Sun, Mar 13, 2016 at 20:46:45 from 99.23.40.74

My biggest fear is after the run, when I shower. I'm terrified of getting caught in the shower with a call. I have 60 seconds maximum to be in the truck and rolling. It's gonna happen one of these days. Good thing my jumpsuit is thick fabric and baggy... So nobody will know I'm in the buff underneath! Lol

From seeaprilrun on Sun, Mar 13, 2016 at 20:48:53 from 99.23.40.74

It hasn't happened yet, but close. I was half dressed once. But I already had pants on and wiggled into my shirt and boots on the way while my partner drove to the call.

Nice job on the 4 laps! As for the NCAAs, fortunately for me I picked the Baylor upset, but I missed the Michigan State one today and it wrecked my bracket - I had the Spartans winning the whole thing. Ugh...

From seeaprilrun on Sat, Mar 19, 2016 at 06:12:48 from 99.23.40.74

I watched Michigan State lose with dismay....and then West Virginia. Time to burn my bracket-- 3 of my final fours gone in the first round!! Ouch!

KU is my last hope. I have them winning it all.

From Russ on Mon, Mar 21, 2016 at 06:59:24 from 199.167.208.164

Amazingly, I am now on days. Came back from maternity leave to days. These run attempts occur at 6am. I take a radio at 5:45, check the rig, and then out the door! I'm becoming fond of the ball of fire in the sky. It burned at first, but I got some sunglasses. Now if only the baby would sleep at night....

From SlowJoe on Sat, Apr 09, 2016 at 20:07:43 from 107.77.100.36

We daytime folks sometimes call that ball of fire the "sun." You can learn the other terminology like "clouds" and "lunch" later...

Just stick the baby in Vanessa's room and train her how to do diapers, bottles, etc. Although if she's like my girls she'd easily just sleep through the screaming...

I started running when my kids were older so I've never run with a stroller. How much more effort do you think it requires? 20% 40% It's impressive, whatever it requires! Nice workouts lately..

From seeaprilrun on Thu, Jun 02, 2016 at 10:11:12 from 99.23.40.74

On flat even ground, very little extra effort, 5% tops, but when there is any incline or wind, even a breeze, exponential effort required yowza!! I do my stroller running at a mostly flat park so really only have to deal with the ever present Kansas south wind.

From Russ on Mon, Jun 13, 2016 at 21:46:27 from 199.167.208.164

I forgot to reply to this. Thanks for the description! Yeah, I can't imagine the effort on an incline or into wind. Great training, but has to be a head game, thinking that you can go faster, etc. Kudos to all of you stroller champions.

Clearly this was a low key local race in which no competition showed up, thus the win.  Very nice, well organized.  Kinduva last minute impulsive decision to drop in.  I procured a baby holder and jogged and did a few sprints 5 minutes before the start. Then I ran.  It was nice to bust the rust off and actually a better time than I expected with my current lack of fitness.  It's a start.  As soon as I finished I had to get in the car and drop off one daughter and then the baby was screaming so I went straight home. My very kind friend who served as a baby holder with her husband picked up my winnings for me--$100 and a trophy.  I cannot complain about that!  I'm thinking of getting an exercise bike to build aerobic base.  I can fit it in my upstairs apartment, it won't bother the neighbors or wake the baby, and it can help me out on those days when I can't stroller run or work precludes me from running laps, and I can maybe spend more time than 30-40 minutes on a treadmill.

am.  5 stroller miles.  It was already 80 degrees and gross

Pm.  Y treddy.  5 minute warm up. 4 x 1 min on/off 6:18.  2 minute jog.  8 minutes 6:40 pace.  3 minute jog.  4 x 1 min on/off 6:18.  Cooldown to 5 miles.  This wasn't terribly hard, which was encouraging, because last time 6:40 pace almost deatroyed me.
