Short-Term Running Goals: Run enough to hold off the middle-age spread
Long-Term Running Goals:
Sub 3 hour marathon--SOMEDAY! Done!
New long term goal: ....run enough to feel kinda like I did when I was fit
Personal: I was a single mom. Two times over. We all survived, despite the fact that I make atrocious decisions. Then, I met a man I didn't deserve. And he loves me so much. And I love him. We lived in sin and bought a house for two years then hired a judge and officially got married(to our great delight and also the delight of our mothers), then a month later he was diagnosed with cancer. Well we survived all that and he's 100% fine now. But, we're really out of shape and really busy with kids and jobs and running just isn't my priority and there's so many other layers to all of it, but I'm running anyway. This is my failure blog now. Just to log that one run a week if I snag it.
Somehow that matters and I want that run recorded. Favorite Blogs: |

| | 27 days after c-section. Baby V fell asleep in the car seat while we were dropping big V off at school, so got on the apartment treadmill and watched her. Warmed up walking. Ran 2 miles. Did some more walking. I'm out of shape and newborn tired but it feels good to do something. About 10 pounds to lose.

| | Okay it's for real now. Now there's money involved. This conundrum of how to run with a new baby and no help is solved. I was just gonna wait for stroller season and had kinda given up. Well the Y lets baby be in kid zone 30ish minutes. And I start back to work shortly and am allowed to be in a jumpsuit for the first few hours. Work laps coming soon, as many as allowed by the 911 gods.
So today my incredibly out of shape self ran 3.2 miles on the mill, then put Val in the front carrier and did stair laps. The downtown Y has 4 flights in a row all the way to the top. I was hurting by the 5th lap. Not sure how many I did--til my legs quivered and I was well over "threshold".
Will be interesting to see how this training works out...

| | 3 on the treddy at the Y until baby V's kid zone time was up. I am sore from those stairs yesterday. Val's dad decided to come visit her a little while in the afternoon, so I had a little time to run laps around Vanessa's school until she got out. All miles at my 100 mile race pace.
| | treddy during my 30 minute kid zone allotment. Quads are still smashed from the stairs two days ago. Can't wait for stroller season when I can run more than 30 minutes because I feel good. Will start incorporating tabata--type workouts at home to work on general fitness. I keep thinking it will all come together somehow and let me run some type of decent race eventually. I think it will soon end up where my laps at work are easy days and my 30 minutes on the treddy on off days will just be balls out running hard. For now it's all just easy running to get back any kind of a base. I am in dismal shape.
| |
| | got my 30 minute allotment
| | 9 work laps at the beginning of shift before the call gods struck. Better than nothing.
| | broke up my 30 on the treddy with some varying paces
| | got my 30 minutes on the Y treddy
| | 25 loops at 6am at post 4. Felt great!
| |
| | wet and rainy post 4 laps
| |
| | 30 minutes on the Y treddy. I'm working my way to 50 mile race pace
| | sick. Could barely take care of baby, never mind running
| | better, but work started with a bang and stayed busy, so no post 4 laps
| | finally! Post 4 laps. Watched Baylor lose and blow my bracket
| |
| | 30 minute treddy allotment. Big news--I'm comfortably running sub 9s. Officially back to pre-pregnancy weight. I feel like for an old fart with a 3 month old that's decent.
| | pushed my luck and went 34 minutes on the treddy. Kid zone didn't say anything or give me dirty looks. Watched SFA almost beat Notre Dame. Might've been a few fist pumps involved.
| |
| | post 4 laps. Nice n chilly
| | first call as soon as I walked in the door at 0554 and it never stopped. No post 4 laps today. :(
| | once again took 34 minutes instead of 30 on the Y treadmill and didn't get in trouble
| |
| | between taking Nessa to school and back, trip to Costco, and grocery shopping, Val had enough of the car seat so no trip to the Y. I was tired anyway because she hasn't slept well for four nights now. Lots of laundry and housecleaning. So no run.:(
| | Only made it 9 laps before the calls started. Trying to run consistently is turning into a huge challenge.
| | post 4 laps. Did 9 strides in the last two miles to mix it up a bit.
| | woke up to....a snowstorm? Huh? Drove through 3 inches of fresh snow to work and never had a chance to run laps, although I had packed shorts and a t- shirt to run in....maybe I should check the forecast more often. Anyways, by 5pm most of it had melted and it was warming and sunny. Good ol Kansas, where you hang your parka next to your swimsuit.

| | treddy. 10 minute warm up. 10 x 1 min on/1 min off at 6:40 pace
| | post 4 loops. Cut short because the fun started.
| | Treddy. Included 6 x 90 seconds on/off at 6:40 pace. Despite the sad mileage I'm still getting fitter. Slowly
| |
| | outside with my longtime friend Sara. Her husband watched baby Val. 9:36 pace. Felt good and we did lots of talking and catching up.
| |
| | post 11 mortuary loops. Included 5 hill sprints up the fire truck ramp out back
| |
| | 3 mortuary loops including one 100 meter dash to the truck because of course the call came out at maximum distance from the ambulance. Got back and squeezed in 3 planks and 10 minutes of a tabata-ish workout before we got called in. I officially gave up on working out for the day.
| | treddy at the Y, including 1 x 800 and 4 x 400 at 6:40 pace. Almost time to graduate to 6:35 pace
| | Easy on the Y treddy. Been watching the Barkley marathons documentary on Netflix. Fascinating
| | 30 mortuary laps. Reverse direction
| |
| | 15 mortuary laps + 1 truck sprint
| | Y treddy short n sweet day. 6 minute warm up, 6 x 1 minute on/off at 6:31 pace, 3 minute jog, 4 minutes 6:53 pace, 3 minute jog, 2 minutes 6:40 pace, cool down to 4 miles and haul arse to kid zone because time's up.
| | 30 mortuary laps, reverse direction. Zombie today
| | y treddy. 8x400 with 400 jogs. 4 at 6:40, 2 at 6:35, 2 at 6:31
| |
| | baby vomit. Mama vomit. Child vomit. Vomit vomit everywhere. Nooooo run
| |
| | got in 3 mortuary laps before getting annihilated with hours of back to back calls
| | 30 mortuary laps. had two days off from running because Val got her shots and had a fever and was cranky so I couldn't take her to the Y
| | This is just an exuse entry. Sister in town for funeral Monday, thunderstorms and tornadoes and work meeting tuesday, baby not sleeping more than an hour or so at once all night this entire week. Just too gassed to do anything today other than drag myself to work and try to function.
| | 8:54 pace. Back on the wagon. Ran with Sara while her husband babysat. I needed that!
| | 10 post 4 loops and then the fun began
| |
| | Missed a few days. Rough life days. Made 20 post 4 laps before opening the day attempting to resuscitate a 3 month old while mom screamed. She didn't make it. Ugh. It's s blessing my baby is strong, vigorous, and doesn't sleep well
| |
| | rough days lately but back on the horse. 7 stroller miles in a humid 74 degrees. Val loved it!! With her taking to the stroller like that, my running opportunities just expanded enormously!
| |
| | i was acting as supervisor today. Got in 2 on the treddy downtown and then needed to go help a crew on a critical call
| | barely had the radio handed to me and town blew up. No run
| | stroller miles. Forgot how hard of work it is in a Kansas headwind!
| | at the Y. 2 on the treadmill, one of which was 6:40 pace. Just wanted to see if I could even run a mile under 7 minutes. 2 miles on the indoor track. Long run tomorrow!
| | did a babysitting swap. 10 with my music. Enjoyed it immensely
| |
| | 20 post 4 laps. Tired and zero desire to run circles so bargained with myself for a minimal 4 miles.
| | first 4 were speedwork on the mill. 400-800-1200-800-400 with 400 recovery jogs between. 6:22, 6:31, and 6:40 pace. Got close to the puke zone but felt good to ratchet up the speedwork. Then drove to the park and did a 4 mile easy stroller run with Val
| |
| | Y treddy. 8 x 1/4 on/off at 6:22 pace. 1 mile cooldown
| | 10 post 4 loops and then it started
| | Y treddy. Rainy outside.
3 minute warm up
4 x 60 seconds on/off at 6:18 pace
3 minute jog
7 minutes 6:40 pace
4 minute jog
4 x 60 secs on/off 6:18, cooldown 5 minutes
| | treddy again. I'm just a treadmill speedwork ing fool. 5 minute warm up. 15 x 1 min on/ off from 6:40 to 6:18 pace, 5 minute cooldown. I am getting skinny, and my baby is quite fat. :)
| | 30 post 4 loops. Took about 4 miles to shake the junk out of my legs from the last two days of speedwork
| | y treddy. Meant to do a full ladder but was spent after the 5.
3 min warm up, 1 on 6:18, 1 off, 2 at 6:27, 1 off, 3 at 6:35, 2 off, 4 at 6:40, 3 off, 5 at 6:49, 3 off, 1at 6:18, 1 off, 2 at 6:27, threw in the towel and cooled down to 5 miles.
A little frustrating to choke and not finish the descent of the ladder, but all of these paces are probably faster than my current realistic 5k pace so I probably just ran them a little too fast and thus had to tap out

| Race: |
get your rear in gear (3.1 Miles) 00:21:49, Place overall: 1, Place in age division: 1 | | Clearly this was a low key local race in which no competition showed up, thus the win. Very nice, well organized. Kinduva last minute impulsive decision to drop in. I procured a baby holder and jogged and did a few sprints 5 minutes before the start. Then I ran. It was nice to bust the rust off and actually a better time than I expected with my current lack of fitness. It's a start. As soon as I finished I had to get in the car and drop off one daughter and then the baby was screaming so I went straight home. My very kind friend who served as a baby holder with her husband picked up my winnings for me--$100 and a trophy. I cannot complain about that! I'm thinking of getting an exercise bike to build aerobic base. I can fit it in my upstairs apartment, it won't bother the neighbors or wake the baby, and it can help me out on those days when I can't stroller run or work precludes me from running laps, and I can maybe spend more time than 30-40 minutes on a treadmill.
| |
| | am. 5 stroller miles. It was already 80 degrees and gross
Pm. Y treddy. 5 minute warm up. 4 x 1 min on/off 6:18. 2 minute jog. 8 minutes 6:40 pace. 3 minute jog. 4 x 1 min on/off 6:18. Cooldown to 5 miles. This wasn't terribly hard, which was encouraging, because last time 6:40 pace almost deatroyed me.
