Ummm... so, I hope the worst is behind me. This surgery sucked!!! Hip is fine, but I CLEARLY cannot handle my drugs! Nothing but ice and ibuprofen from here on out!

Surgery went well last Thursday and my surgeon said that this hip looked way better than the other had, which is good news. Although this does puzzle me a little since this hip hurt way worse than the other and was way more limiting. I guess what I have learned from all these stupid hip surgeries is that none of this makes any sense.

Official word is I only needed a femoroplasty (about 5.5 mm of bone removed from my femoral head to eliminate CAM impingment) and a capsular repair (tightening of the iliofemoral ligament to reduce the chance of hip insability that plagued me after the FAI repair I had on the other side). No acetabuloplasty (fix for pincer-type impingment), labral repair, or iliopsoas tendon release which was all done in the left hip in December of 2011. This recovery should be easy peasy!

I'll always remember this surgery for when Frank made her debut superflight around our living room and collapsed out of exhaustion in the kitchen. What a champ!

This whole hip experience has been so perplexing to me because it seemed like it went from you finally running so freely and so well to hobbled so quickly. I'm glad you got in as quickly as possible to get it fixed, and hopefully since it wasn't as bad as the other you will rehab that much quicker. And yes, pain meds are horrid.

@Jake Ha! Frank has been passed out cold recovering since returning home. I will remember this surgery as the snakes in the corner, melting walls, milk of magnesia terror, anti-emitic coma, swear they didn't do anything to my hip because I feel like I could walk WTF? surgery.

@Allie Cute!

@Neasts Truth is that hip has been bothering me off and on for years and I think it was sent over the edge with my happy return to running. I knew that I would eventually need the other hip fixed as well since I had serious impingement issues on both sides and I may have jumped the gun with this surgery a little, but I really wanted to put this all behind me. And I am thinking this hip is going to rehab super quickly :)
