Running Accomplishments:

I was a much better runner in my 20's and 30's.  When I was 52 I had a 28.5 5K and a 58.5 10K, and I would like to surpass those times.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Run a 1/2 marathon.  I would actually love to run a full marathon, but am not sure if my body would break down with injuries training for one.  Update fall 2010: still no 1/2 marathon, but I did run all the way up city creek and back home (14 miles)  - absolutely gorgeous!!

Personal:

My name is Adele Kimbrough - I'm 58 and have been running (off and on) since I was 16.  My body is not well designed for speed, and I'm a bit arthritic, but I'm having fun trying to figure out just how fast I can be.  And this blog helps!

Hip pain wasn't too bad so I did my first outside running in about a month.  Short & slow - to and from city creek gate.  Did shoulder exercises

3.5 on treadmill, 1% incline.  Started slow then laddered between 5.3 & 5.7 mph a couple times (30_30 counts per click), then ramped back down.  No pain, but not much energy either.  Ugh - my weights creeping up #@$%!

Good stretching after running
3 sets of ab crunches and 2 sets of back left lifts
Full shoulder & upper arm strengthening exercises

Slow morning run to & from city creek pa4, no hip pain on the down hill which is good.  Did lots of stretching, 3 sets of ab crunches, my upper arm exercises, and took Suzie for a walk.

evening run on treadmill. really didn't want to start running & didn't especially want to keep running, but surprisingly i started feeling better the faster I ran! Alright, i'll take that! went up to 5.5 mph then laddered up to 6 mph & back down (120 counts at each speed). Fastest I've ran since I aggravated my hips & periformis a month or two ago.

no running, but I did go rappelling (for the first time!) at Dogwood in Big Cottonwood Canyon! yeah . . . stepping backwards off a 90 foot cliff . . .

noon time run on treadmill. decided to stop being a wussy & crank the incline back up from 1% to 1.5%.  Of course that meant my pace was slower, but that was okay because I was looking for a change of pace (pun, get it!).  laddered between 5 & 5.5 mph a couple times, then ramped down to finish 4.75 miles. Walked a 1/4 mile cool down.

Took Suzie on her standard walk.
