Running Accomplishments:

I was a much better runner in my 20's and 30's.  When I was 52 I had a 28.5 5K and a 58.5 10K, and I would like to surpass those times.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Run a 1/2 marathon.  I would actually love to run a full marathon, but am not sure if my body would break down with injuries training for one.  Update fall 2010: still no 1/2 marathon, but I did run all the way up city creek and back home (14 miles)  - absolutely gorgeous!!

Personal:

My name is Adele Kimbrough - I'm 58 and have been running (off and on) since I was 16.  My body is not well designed for speed, and I'm a bit arthritic, but I'm having fun trying to figure out just how fast I can be.  And this blog helps!

to city creek & back.  Still lead legs, still no energy.  I can understand the lead legs part since I haven't been running, but am totally mystified why I have no energy, even from the get go. 

At least I ran 3 times this week . . .

up to city creek pa1 and back.  Slightly more than 3.  Still sluggish and lead legged, but tried pushing on hill between 11th and 12th.  Soaking in the warmth!! :)

Up to City Creek 1 mile marker and back.  Never thought I would be running 5 miles at high noon in the middle of June in Salt Lake City, but the heat felt good!  (After the freezing spring we've had I'm happy to soak up some warmth!)  Didn't feel great at first, but started feeling stronger and better about 1/2 way through.

Evening Run: 5 miles up to City Creek one mile marker & back home.  Despite eating chicken meatballs before running I felt pretty good and pushed at times.  Running is finally feeling better.

Late afternoon run to city creek picnic area 8 and back.  Felt good, even though it was pretty warm outside.  Had a good trip to see my dad for Father's Day.  Didn't get to run for several days, but I sure got a lot of driving and thinking done!

Nice morning run up to city creek picnic area ? (forgot the number but it's the nice water fountain one a little ways past the 1.5 mile marker) and back home.  Longest run of the year and I enjoyed it!! Still need to do lots of therapy for my shoulder though.

Morning run to city creek pa 8 and back.  Threw in 5-6 faster paced fartleks to give my legs, lungs, and mind a bit more challenge.

Then off to shoulder therapy - got lots of good stretches but I don't think any more adhesions broke free.  I've been very faithful at doing my stretches and strengthening exercises at home, and know I've improved a lot, but it's still discouraging to see how limited my range of motion is compared to a year ago.

Morning run to city creek PA 8 and back.  Lush greenery, cool shade, chirping birds, swift running creek, sweet smelling olive trees . . . ummmm - love days like this!!!  :)

Gotta shower and do my shoulder stretches; I have a bunch of work to get done today...........

4:00 pm - warm afternoon run to city creek one mile marker and back; legs feeling pretty fatigued. 

Did two solid sets of shoulder stretches today and did my evening shoulder strengthening exercises.  Takes a lot of time to do all this shoulder therapy, but it's paying off and my shoulder is getting a lot more functional.
