September  1, 2012  Pocatello Marathon  2:54:57 6th overall

November 3, 2012 Just Cuz Half Marathon 1:19:04 second place overall.  (what a difference a year makes)

 


Long-Term Running Goals:

Worship the Lord and praying early in the mornibgs and keep doing that. Staying humble and desperate for the Lord and praying for end-time revival for America.

My Long Term goal is to just run whatever I can.

Hebrews 4:16 So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.

I ran with the Pocatello running club today.  We started at 7am and ran 17.5 miles at an overall 7:16 pace in 2:07.  We ran from 4th street out passed the Century High School and turned around and ended at the Bagely's shop.

Nice run with the  temperature starting at 42 degrees I took it nice and steady.  Didn't want to push any miles and keep the recovery going.  One of the guys is running the St George Marathon and he's trying for under 3 hours and this will be his first marathon.  He needs to learn how to fuel and hydrate, because he hasn't been doing it on his long run.  I was really trying to help him out and gave him advice.  Also told him to join the blog.  He's ran a 4:02 mile in high school.

Hey, any advice on the fuel/hydrating part? That is definitely a weakness of mine (and at 180 lbs I can't afford to skimp). I have a horrible time getting down fluids in road races (spill all over me). Also, I have a strong stomach (can pretty much handle anything), yet am not sure what might be most affective in a marathon (beans, gu, etc. and when to take them). Your insights would be helpful...thanks!

Kory, I'm watching your consistency at running great distances and at some very good training paces that for you are recovery but for most of us are beyond our capability. You are going to do so well in St. George, awesome. Of course what can be better than the PR and course record that you did in Pocatello? How do you come down from a "high" like you are on?

My notes on the St. George Marathon course are shown below. I looked at my notes in my 2003 St. George report.

- Mile 1 pretty flat with some downhill.

- Mile 2 downhill but includes a bit of a hill early in the mile.

- Mile 3 significant downhill.

- Mile 4 significant downhill.

- Mile 5 downhill with some flat.

- Mile 6 downhill.

- Mile 7 more downhill, but looking at the Vejo hill in mile 8.

- Mile 8 includes the Vejo ½ mile long hill, slowest mile of the race.

- Mile 9 starts by finishing the Vejo hill the tops out and goes downhill.

- Mile 10 and 11 are gentle slope slightly uphill.

- Mile 12 and 13 and 14 as I recall are pretty flat, some slight downhill slope.

- Mile 15 takes a serious downhill slope.

- Mile 16 continues the serious downhill slope then downhill but not too steep.

- Mile 17 flattens out some.

- Mile 18 as I recall is quite flat. The course elevation chart shows a downhill piece during the last half. I don’t remember just how much.

- Mile 19 flat with some downhill but as I recall it does have a slight hill at the end of the mile.

- Mile 20 gets into the downhill drive into St. George.

- Mile 21 significant downhill.

- Mile 22 still downhill, but not as steep.

- Mile 23 still downhill, not too steep.

- Mile 24 as I recall still gentle downhill.

- Mile 25 and 26 are the new route that I have not run yet, I think some flatness with some downhill slope.

You are going to do soooooo good.

Paul, that's the best description I've seen. WOW! that's just what I wanted. I guess for my training I will still run some major downhills to be ready.
