SNOW, SNOW again.  I started my run at 7:30am and it never stopped snowing, or  let up at all.  I decided to do a longer run today to get some endurance fitness which I've probably lost a little.  I ran 18.41 miles at an overall 7:09 pace in 2:11.  I did some faster miles, but I mainly kept it on cruise control the whole run.

One thing I haven't metioned is I've been experiencing back pain for almost two weeks now and not sure why.   It started after struggling up a hill in one of my runs.  It's a very sharp pain at times, but it doesn't really hurt when I run.

Nice run...doesn't seem you've lost too much. My endurance has slipped a bit...how many long runs do you think it might take to feel back to normal (I've done an 18, 13.6, and 20 over the past 3 weekends)? My speed and tempos feel strong...it's just the distance that's suffering a bit(anything over 12-14).

Could cold have anything to do with it? I may get overly bundled up and feel really heavy at times.

Good job getting the long run done in the snow. It is nice to be able to cruise through the long runs this time of year. You have such a strong base and runs like this will only make it stronger.

Rockness18 - I don't think you've lost any endurance. You still might be feeling the effects of the last marathon. Make sure that you fuel properly on the run (I don't drink or take anything below 18 miles, but everyone is different).

Since your doing an endurance run, keep the pace consistent. This should be your slow long run pace. This is typically one minute or one minute and 30 seconds slower than your marathon pace.

I would start next week and do another 18 miles, then 20 miles the following week. Then the third week drop down to 16 miles. Try to run by time to keep your feet out there as long as possible and don't worry about speed.

Jeff - Thanks. I truly did run through powder and slush the whole way. I still have no clue what my plans are. I don't even have a race in mind. God's spirit will lead me in the right direction and balance. I may not even run a marathon this year. I'm just leaning on God to take the running addiction away and balance everything out.

thanks Kory.

Oops, wrong button...fueling may have been an issue as well as a 10-mile "semi-tempo" the day before...my wife pointed out that I left at 11am, having only eaten a bagel that morning. I typically do that when I leave at 6am, not 11am. Thanks for the advice.

Great job sticking with the run today. I found that running in such elements gives me time to work out things mentally. Something about running in a snowfall. Sorry about the back pain. Where does it hurt exactly? I have plenty of experiences in back related issues from my powerlifting days.

Robert - The pain seems to be in the middle part of my back.
